This British Army Band Colchester Drum Major is superb and marches majestically. He should be leading one of the Guards Bands as Drum Major and show the others how to march with style and elegance.

Congratulations, Colchester! You were superb! And the two grey horses seem to have done this before, as well.

Enjoyed the video as always. Please, more and more and more ... The first piece was Festmusik der Stadt Wien by Richard Strauss (the "German" Strauss, not one of the Viennese - Radetzky-Marsch and so ....). Even as born and living in Vienna I hadn't known it beforde.

I remember from my time in Osnabruck, being impressed in particular with the bands of Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment and the Devon & Dorsets. The D&D's stuck out visually like real redcoats of Zulu fame with a great drum section. Both regiments for the lightness of their sound (more orchestral than the pure brass band).

Strange how the Colchester band left St James Palace playing but the Band of the Coldstream Guards cut off playing just as they entered Marlborough road. Has Sunday services resumed at a later time now?

I am unsure, I believe the services times may vary now. The last twice I have been Colchester Band have played a static and started to play soon as they left Friary Court with the guards band on the return (Welsh and Coldstream) stopping on the mall. Similarly back in September British Army Band Tidworth played a static and straight away and then The Welsh Guards Band played all the way in. However in the middle of those I watched The Royal Canadian Artillery Band and they didn't play a static and then only started playing when out on the mall but on the return the Band of the Irish Guards played all the way into Friary Court, so I'm unsure, perhaps the service times are changing weekly?

Wonderful video !! Quick question: why do the Coldstream Guards suddenly stop playing when they arrive near St-James Palace?

@@ianorr7623 Eh, I don't think so. I've seen them stop playing a March out of Nowhere when returning to St James Palace.

What happened to the REME band, is it long gone now? What is the close support squadron? I notice they wear the No 1 dress. Are they a ceremonial type unit? What's the history there? I left in 1984, but at the HM Queens funeral procession, I noticed REME street-liners next to me in No1's. Back in the day, only the REME band wore blues, so far as I recall

The REME Band was reformed into a 8 piece rock and pop contemporary band under the Corps of Army Music restructure in 2014. In 2019 there was a further restructure where the bands became regional bands and Co located. British Army Brass Band Catterick now represent the REME, King’s Division and RAC Band’s. This is denoted on music stand and fanfare trumpet banners as well as being affiliated to them in regimental and corps associations events etc. All regional bands now wear the RCAM No1 blues uniform or the new RCAM scarlet ceremonial tunics!

@@MilitaryBandsEverywhere Thanks for the information, I looked up RCAM and found a WIKI page that put all this in more detail. Such a shame the demise of the corps band but I saw most of the garrison bands at the Funeral Procession and they were very good. I would say though that recognising which bands are which is not an easy thing just like trying to distinguish the individual guards regiments or their bands, unless you are able to pick out the nuances.
