I reckon the drill we did with the SLR was far more comfortable, the SA 80 doesn't impress me at all.

amen to that!

The SA80 is a .22 rifle, not a real battle rifle

And the SMLE 303 was even better. I got the tail-end of the SMLE just as the SLR was being introduced.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that judging by the lack of medals on the NCOs this has to be sometime in the late 90s -probably 98-99 as there’s no way on Earth a REME sgt has only one medal. The intro and ending montages are much earlier - they’re from my troop in 94 (you can tell by the horrible video quality)

I guess sports makes sense in military training (teaches team coordination and the like) but I'm surprised that (in addition to football and cricket), they'd play baseball of all things (0:48)

What , now they train all arms at Pirbright ? How many badges are there . Nothing like when I did my training at Woolwich RA.
@squeepy8466 жыл бұрын
I think the majority of the RAC regiments ar eat Pirbright, exept for the Household Cavalry, they are also at Winchester I believe. And all of the Infantry regiments are at Catterick. Just look it up because I am not sure tbh.

After 1992 the individual depots went and everyone was trained at either Pirbright, Bassinbourne, Winchester, or Lichfield and then went on to trade training at the corps or arms school wherever that was. I was at Pirbright in 94. It was RA, RLC, REME and Guards Div.

"Passing out parade" Americans call it "pass in review." I can't imagine why...
@nicholasdavies87956 жыл бұрын
Kerlem Kerlem, the term " passing out" has a two fold meaning. Firstly it is a term used for initial basic training ( military personnel " passing out " of that depot or station to move on to their respective regiments or commandos ) secondly and more interestingly it was also used as a colloquial term for being on a parade square in very hot weather for long periods of time and subsequently some personnel " passed out " - as in fainted due to the heat . Hope that explains your question .

The Sgt: is actually '''not'' supposed to have a slashed peak. That is both limited to the guards & R..A.F. regiment Colour Sqn. & any R.S.M. worth his salt would have '''had words''' with him for modifying the queens uniform.... ( besides being a pretentious poser)

Watched a passing out parade of the Garhwal Rifles and admittedly they do look sharp, but I don't like the over exaduration of Indian Army march and drill. Swinging the arms back to just shy of parallel is unnatural and the quick March with baby steps looks a little silly. At least the NCOs don't raise their feet above head height like the soldiers performing ceremonial duties on the Indo-Pakistani border. To me, the best drill looks both intentional and relaxed at the same time--movements should be uniform, crisp, and steady yet not look tense or strained.
