This brings back memory s, but what happened to the 58 pattern webbing that we were given. The one when you were out in the rain and needed a drink, you could not get your water bottle out because the pouch had shrunk. They are not even trusted with a susat sight, I still have two. Good old days sneaking out of camp to go to the pub, it used to be called? the kings head or the queens head! To meet Lisa i think was her name 'the royston pig' Thanks for the vid, it gave me a laugh.... The difference between us an the yanks is we could march into battle and not wait to get a lift!!! And if the RSM from 1989 ever see's this it was me that done the business on the Vulcan bomber and cut the hole in the fence near the dry sky slope.

And to all you Americans slating this way of training this is phase 1 training not infantry training this is the training chefs or women get these are not being trained to be infantrymen until they have done 10 weeks basic which I think is the total length of us military training these troops will then go on to do anything up to another 30 weeks of training before they even get to there units where they will then be trained in unit sops

I've had a few conversations with British soldiers while deployed. But I can't get over on how they march. To me, they look like North Koreans' marching. But to them, we probably look odd. One thing for sure, I wouldn't go back to war without them having my back or my sides.
@stephencrompton43528 жыл бұрын
+PokeAJoker246 nailed it
@anthonybaylord7 жыл бұрын
Absolute nonsense. The British, Irish, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand armies have much the same marching and drill styles. They raise their arms forward and backward from the shoulder but do not goose step or swing arms from side to side. I have noticed often that American Servicemen do not really march in the traditional sense of the word. They are excellent servicemen though, no better and no worse than the British.
@anthonybaylord7 жыл бұрын
I think they could actually manage without you being on their sides.
@mercian-man71166 жыл бұрын
They march dam smart and proud, more so than any army in the world...Do one. Up the British. We are the worlds finest. I never understand why the yanks drop bombs on there own, and are British soldiers...DUM MUCK!

I'm sorry but I respectably disagree. The United States Army is worked much harder and more disciplined they dont get a break room like these guys i think they are too soft on there recruits again sorry but I have to disagree.
@alicialangley618110 жыл бұрын
Andrew Mock but don't u think a break every once and a while is good? If u work your ass cheeks off 24/7 u become tired and don't learn. The us has boot camp which is basically just a drill Sgt constantly shouting at u making u feel like shit and tret like it as if it were on the bottom of your shoe. I do agree on some terms that the U.S have a skilled army but not a disciplined on like the British and I'm not saying this because I am a Brit but because our drill is more sharp and quick movements and u have to listen out more for the commands of words
@anthonybaylord7 жыл бұрын

There are bog standard and corps d'elite troops in every Army. What is certain is that no modern Army can defeat the Afgan Tribsman. Sure their ill trained Regular Army is a push over but no Amy from Alexander the great to NATO armies can defeat the Afgan tribesmen. Four times the British entered Afganistan and defeated the Army but had to retreat due to constant harassment from the Tribesmen who were highly skilled guerilla warriors,.

2:10 & 2:17. Aren't these done at selection to assess your fitness? I was at selection in December, but got medically deferred and retaking selection in around 5 months. Though isn't the physical assessment done at selection? Or is it just like common practice to keep one on their toes?

@RavenBlaze11 жыл бұрын
As stated the stress created by screaming drill instructors works to toughen up soldier so they can work under stress. If a soldier can perform with four drill instructors in their face than when bullets are flying and their anxiety rises, they already have performed under similar levels of anxiety as part of their training so they are able to function. Moral has nothing to do with it in basic training.

It's odd, when I was in the ACF I would look forward to everything but drill. Any fear inducing adventure training or vigorous exercise thing they put me through I'd have a smile on my face even if I was mentally and physically trained but the idea of marching would always put dread in me. One of the reasons I didn't end up joining the military in the first place.

You have to be a British or Commonwealth citizen. (ie Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Fiji, Jamaica, Nigeria, Ghana, Cyprus, Kenya, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malaysia, the Bahamas, Malta, Uganda, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Papua New Guinea, Western Samoa, Gibraltar etc) in other words any of the countries that were once part of the British Empire. I'm not sure about the other NATO countries though, but I think you have a better chance of joining the British army than say someone that has no links with Britain (like China, Russia or Japan etc).

You get your Id checked then they work out your BMI from height and weight they also measure your waist, then you watch a video on the army ask any questions as they come. Finally the one to one they just ask a few questions about education, your job choices, support from family and confirming things you already have said really. Goodluck hope this helps and what role are you looking at?
