My british army one developed a puncture 3 years in rather than chuck it away I cut both ends open then stuffed it with upholstery foam thus turning it into a really thick rollmat so I almost get the comfort of a inflatable mat and the reliability of a rollmat
@freezef12 жыл бұрын
If it bulge like that, open the valve let the excessive air out and use highest temp ironing iron run over it and it will glue itself back to the foam and be like new. Hope it helps

I've been looking for the British army self inflatable but they are becoming difficult to get hold of. Would you reccomend the highlander base s then? I have an expensive paria ultralight 3/4 length pad with an r value of nearly 5 but I need something more Rugged, I can smash about and not worry. This looks perfect for me, cheap, 3/4 lendth and a copy of the BA one.
@BurtonOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Yes it's really good, I don't use it that often as I do prefer a full size mat, but I've used about 5 times now and it's comfy enough and warm as it's memory foam based, it needs a little help with inflation as they all do, but it's made of strong stuff and the valve is pretty strong although it is all plastic... no leaks so far. Go for it and let me know if you love it or hate it. Lee

@@BurtonOutdoors Apparently it's a Dutch army mat a thermarest. I know no more until it arrives.
@BurtonOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Ahhh OK, if it's DA it'll be excellent , I somehow presumed it was a BA mat. I sold my DA hooped bivvy recently, I wish I hadn't now, I also had a Dutch army combat jacket that I sold, it was way too big but I liked it... those Dutch dudes are tall!! 🤣😂
@Taffwildmanofthewoods3 жыл бұрын
@@BurtonOutdoors the DA hooped Bivi is super grade surplus. Several months ago I bought a brand new French army gore tex jacket. Real heavy duty outer shell. I've also bought an Austrian gore tex jacket another good buy. Thank god for surplus 👍

Yeah nice comparison vid. I considered the BA mat, but went for the snugpak mat. I like the camo pattern on the highlander tho. Did you manage to weigh it in the end?
@BurtonOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
Albion Camping Yes the camo one was about 800 grams with the stuff sack and ties, the army Brown one was 600 grams !! Go figure...with stuff sack and it's supposed to be 750 g... I think it's a fake made to look old..

Nice one Lee. I'd send the the defective one back mate it's not grade 1 bud. I've purchased a few bits off eBay that haven't been as good as advertised so i just sent them straight back and the good thing about ebay is they've helped me get my money back the few times I've had any problems. Alpkit have got a sale on at the mo Lee and they make some great gear, hooped bivvy wild camper bought one of there sleep mats recently and it looked the business. Atb Sconja 👍
@BurtonOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
Yes Cheers Sconja, I've just weighed them and strangely the Grade 1 Army mat is only 538 grams with the stuff sack.. & it's supposed to be 750g I'm wondering if its a fake copy done up to look old... even if it was worn out the weight would remain the same. The other one that's far superior in comfort although it is new weighs in at 838 grams inc stuff sack and 2 straps, so net weight is not far off 750g
@BurtonOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
Yes I remember Hooped Bivvy guy having one, not a bad price at £39.00 and the weight is amazing at less than 400g but I just worry about punctures.. had my fair share on airbeds in the past.. at least with a bit of foam inside you can still sleep on it. But I should of looked into mats a bit better really, overall cost was one thing as I'm buying 2 of everything so I can take friends / family members with me.

Leave it for 15 mins with the valve open... then top it up 👍

@@BurtonOutdoors Tried that. I need to get the air out and iron it first as per "freezef1" and its bulging all over the place after I "topped it up" blowing into it. Sigh. Maybe easier to go with the standard rollup mat.

Can you top up air? By blowing up?
@BurtonOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
BurNingRubber140 Hi ya, yes you can top up and also get it on its way by blowing air into it, it's advisable not to blow too much in as it has a limit and would end up looking like the Brown Army one in the end I suppose. Very comfy and warm though for a 3cm thick pad. Thanks for watching please subscribe if you like my videos. Many thanks. Lee (Burton Outdoors)
