Bought one of these for when I did Killimanjaro a couple of years ago. It performed really well and I still use it now! What I really like is that it has a flat bottom to it so it not a strict mummy type shape and allows you loads of room for your feet and to sleep more naturally. Love it.

I've just bought one of these (despite owning a Carinthia Survival One) as they are such good value. I paid £50 for a brand new one with tags and £30 for a brand new jungle bag with a bug net. I'm looking forward to winter camping with these bags instead of the down bag I used last year - especially as I'm getting more into tarp woodland camping. I also purchased a supergrade Dutch Army M80 bivi recently which has a central zip. Should work well together either on the ground or in a hammock. The Dutch Army M90 is another central zip bivi too.

Looks very similar uncompressed size to the softie 9, weight is similar as I also use a liner and the expander panel. I hardly ever ever wash my bags, just wait for a bright Sunny windy day hang it out and let mother nature deal with it. Liners do of course get washed. Also a big fan of synthetic and no stitch thru pertex outer. We're very much on the same page. You've convinced me, I might see if I can find a supergrade. 👍🏼

I'm no expert but I think that the Light Weight Bag (part of the modular system alongside the Medium Weight Bag and the Liner) is different from the Jungle Bag? Thanks for the review. I just bought one of these on its own, without the inner lightweight bag, for 3 season use in the UK. But, looking at the label, it says: "the lightweight bag MUST be placed inside the medium weight bag to ensure the free flow of condensation away from the body" Have you ever had any problems with condensation using the medium weight bag alone?
@frogmaster83
@frogmaster83 2 жыл бұрын
The medium is designed to be used on its own for most of the year. You only add the lightweight (jungle bag) in mid winter. I have used the medium on its own down just below zero and its fine. Its one of my favourite bags. When they say it must be used inside the medium bag, that's just to stop people from putting it on the outside. Hope that makes sense.

Nice review, Being the sensible practical chap that you are; do you think down bags (or jackets) have a place anywhere? I'm fully on team synthetic to be honest, bags and jackets, I'm kind of baffled (no pun intended) why down bags are even still a thing when they are essentially useless once damp, the kind of damp that you get in a tent or bivi 🤦🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️😂 Approaching chocolate tea pot levels of usefulness
@frogmaster83
@frogmaster83 3 жыл бұрын
I think down has its place. Better insulation in the right conditions and for weight and pack size takes some beating. For most UK conditions, I would use synthetic to be honest. Only thing with down I have is my Eurohike summer bag. I really like it, but would not use it if the is a chance of it being a bit damp out. 👍
@AggyGoesOutdoors
@AggyGoesOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
@@frogmaster83 Agreed, down is better insulation, but in a much narrower range of environments.. And once compromised a real struggle to dry out. I think the thing I can't get my head around is the price disparity, between down and synthetic... one is cheap and works in all conditions... one is expensive and works in limited conditions. 🙄👍

@@adamandy384 They are dirt cheap here in the UK. £25-£45. The army rates it as -15C limit. That is with army gear on though. If its colder they add the light Jungle bag inside it to take it down to -20C. All depends on the gear you are using. In my location it is very rare to get below -5C.
