1IC.....1st in command. 2IC....2nd in command. British infantry sections are 8 men. A corporal and 3 others make up Charlie fireteam. A lance corporal and 3 others make up Delta fireteam. Charlie + Delta = 1 section with two NCOs in the chain of command.

Why would you fvck about with that? Just use (as is starting to happen around the world) a micro-drone (ie. under 100g) and get the same capability on a smaller platform, that is easier to use, cheaper, and more readily disposable.

Section 2ic is the 2nd in command, usually a Lance corporal. In a typical section of 8 men you have 2 fire teams of 4, one team led by the 2ic and the other led by the section ic. Not sure how that would work in a 5 man section like they were saying they were considering in the vid

The wheeled unit I believe is German. As for home grown Cased Telescoped Ammunition (CTA) saw BAE reinvent the bullet. A potential game changer that offers twice the kinetic punch for the same calibre. The round is housed in a uniform cylindrical jacket providing for increased RPM, reliability and selectable munitions without interruption. A small calibre round has already been given to the US, while the 40mm (smart capable) cannon is already available with AP, airburst and concrete penetrator. The concrete round blows a hole in a building, switching to smart air burst it’s distance fused to go off in the building…. all seamlessly selectable at 160 rounds per minute. That air burst round can shred choppers by the way. The 40mm AP can pen 82mm of rolled armour plate.

Section 2-IC - In the British Army, a section usually consists of 8 troops split into two fire teams (Charlie and Delta), led by the Section Commander, a full Corporal (or 'full screw' in army lingo) and a 2-IC which is the Second in command. Sorry if I've just stated the obvious. Another good review!

Surprised this is the first time 2IC has come across your desk.. It's very tempting with tech to bring in a lot of new toys all at once, makes the most sense to feed it in gradually and let people get used to working with one thing, then move on to the next..

In a British infantry section, a 2IC is a Lance Corporal - the section commander is informally known as a 'Full Screw' or a Corporal.
@theot.e2499
@theot.e2499 2 жыл бұрын
well not exactly, the section commander is just whichever NCO is in control of the section, could be a sergeant or a corporal. The 2IC just stands for 'second in command', a NCO below the rank of the IC, could be a lance corporal or a corporal.

Vulnerable to jammimg even if it frequency hops. Future battlefield will probably see more jammimg equipment dropped by drone. I was a geek with a gun so that makes me dangerous:) However moving kit up to start lines and to and from echelon levels probably long overdue a deployment. Temperate and desert scenarios probably an excellent solution especially counter insurget, although they have geeks with guns dont forget. Worst ground I saw was tussock strewn Falklands, if it can beat that I want one for xmas.

@@playerforty4621 The Russians pretty much tried that in the 70's & 80's in Afghan. The 'Kill everything' strategy. There's nothing the US (or British) armies could do now that the Russians couldn't in the 80's, except use munitions that cost 50 times as much to blow up the same mud compounds, fired or dropped from aircraft that cost 500 times as much. An Apache is clearly a much better assault helicopter than a Hind if you are fighting a high tech enemy but none of the multi million taxpayer dollar a shot weapon systems are any better against a Pashtun with an AK than the old fashioned stores on the pylons of a Hind, & the Hind at least had armour. They killed a _lot_ of Afghans, including a lot of non-combatants, & turned a whole generation of the ones they didn't kill into enthusiastic anti-Soviet guerrillas. Also, after you've discovered that it didn't work, the people you ordered to do all the evil that was supposed to be justified by the fact that you would win by doing it would be going home eventually. In short, you'd lose _multiple_ ways & keep losing for a decade or to after you decide to go home instead of just the one boring way. I speculate that the only way to win a war in Afghanistan is the one way none of the empires that have lost entire armies trying to subdue the place have found a reason to justify trying - sending in enough millions of troops to be able to take & hold ground, occupy & 'civilise' the entire country. They call Afghanistan the graveyard of empires for a reason.

The Yorkshire Regiment incorporated the three remaining Yorkshire Infantry Regiments; The Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment of Yorkshire; The Green Howards (Alexandra, Princess of Wales’s Own Yorkshire Regiment) and The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment (West Riding) plus their affiliated Territorial Army Units. Collectively, the Yorkshire Regiment can trace its history back to 1685.

That follower vehicle seems good, as long as it doesn't get hung up on bushes, etc, it could be a great asset. The driver would need to be smart and good at not being a target, though. Those side panniers look ride-able, the flatbed was stretcher-sized; if it can carry it's own weight in ammo, radios and water, it could actually be very useful indeed.

True. But who wouldn't with 100,000 Russky soldiers piling up against Ukraine and russian jets entering Scottish airspace and close flybys on UK warships in the black sea. So much going on and the pathetic UK news prefer to show highlights of love island and keep the populace quiet.
