Yeah 191 everclear When distilling liquor you can never distill to 100% as water and alcohol want to stay together to a certain amount. So with a fractionating still you can get 191. If you want anhydrous alcohol AKA pure alcohol 100% 200 proof.... You have to use a molecular sieve such as zeolite. The water is much smaller molecule than alcohol, the water goes into the zeolite. Then once all the water is absorbed by the zealite, you pour the alcohol out of the jar and it is 100% pure

@Bozemanjustin3 жыл бұрын
@@liamengram6326 go buy a bottle , take a picture and I'll send you twice the price of the bottle. Everclear does not make a 195 brother You cannot distill alcohol to that purity, you have to use a molecular sieve as I described. No company is going to go to the extra cost of doing that, for a couple more percent alcohol. If you need more pure alcohol than 191 then you can simply buy anhydrous alcohol.. 200 proof meant for the medical industry. And to be honest everclear doesn't make a 191 either only a 190. I keep using 191 because that's basically the possible limits of distillation. And I knew everclear was basically at that threshold. But they most assuredly do not make a 195 You're probably thinking of 95% alcohol by volume which would be 190 AKA everclear

I see lots of other Americans have commented so I'll just add this observation: I don't drink. Both of my parents were alcoholics and it's just a road I've never traveled. But, I grew up in a hard-drinking family and my dad and my uncles have made a little 'Shine now and again and most people, upon trying it for the first time, would compare it to drinking paint stripper or something equally wicked. No offense to the stuff you purchased, but I am comfortable saying it's not real moonshine. No way would a first time drinker of moonshine talk about it being "Nice", and rapidly go from one to the next, trying 3 versions in 10 minutes.

I was in high school in the '80's and I agree with you with an exception. Good shine should be smooth, but finding that was rare even then. Luckily, I was "the guy that knew a guy" and had my share of the good stuff. Watched a 7'4" guy turn up a dixie cup and he just kept going back, like in slow motion. Everybody just watched him hit the floor and before you say why didn't somebody catch him?, it was one of those moments where you had to be there. A bunch of teenagers partying and it just happened. I've drank a fifth of both Jack and Jose all at once (not the same night) and I wouldn't have attempted a half-pint of the stuff we drank. I wasn't an alcoholic, I drank to get drunk quick or chug 3 beers before a softball game to slow down my mind where I could play without thinking about it. I might try 3 different kinds in 10 minutes and I might call them "Nice", but with a different meaning than these guys. I wouldn't have any plans for the rest of the day either.

Good moonshine does have good flavor profiles once it’s proofed down to about 80 or 90. Straight out of the still it’s like 120-170 proof so of course THAT won’t be pleasant. This stuff is proofed way down for legal purposes, which is why it tastes better. And I agree, real moonshine is made in the woods under the moonlight.
@americansmark3 жыл бұрын
Coworker makes his own. Traditionally, it's made from corn mash, but corn whiskey isn't as smooth as wheat. This is more like a wheated bourbon that isn't aged in casks. Still good and essentially the same thing, though. The flavored ones are what hillbillies call 'homemade wine'. The clear shine is often called 'Mountain Dew' (which is where the soda got its name), Holler Hooch, or White Lightning. You know you've got the food stuff when you can spit onto a fire and create a fireball. 🤣 Btw Daz, we don't call it 'Grandpa's Old Cough Medicine' for nothing. 😉

Moonshine is simple unaged corn whisky. It's clear because it isn't put into barrels to age where the caramel color would normally be absorbed from the wood. To make it, you sprad corn in a dark place (like a barn loft) and water it thoroughly so that it starts to germinate. Once it reaches germination, you need to stop that process so you fill the area with smoke. At this point, the maximum amount of sugar is present in the sprouting corn kernels. The corn is then collected and mashed in a large container with water and some yeast. There it ferments for a few days (7-14). The mash looks a lot like sloppy oatmeal at this point. At that point, the "sour mash" is poured into a still. The still consists of a large copper container (or tub), copper coils that act as evaporators and connect to another thump tub (a smaller container) that makes a thumping noise when the temperature reaches the optimum level and the alcohol begins to flow. Add a heat source below the first tub (usually fire or propane) to heat the mixture to between 65-70 degrees celsius (below the boiling point of water). It should never be more than 75 cdegree celsisus. The alcohol evaporates at a lower temperature than water so it evaporates first into the coils that cool it and drop it into the thump tub where it cools to room temperature. Once the distilled mixture is evaporated and cooled to room temperature, it will have the appearance of water. The unevaoprated portion remains in teh first tub to be discarded or used to as animal feed. At the point you have alcohol flowing into the thump tub, simply open the tap in the bottom of the thump tub to drain the first 5% of the alcohol which is the toxic isopropyl alcohol portion. Once this is allowed to pour off, the rest is drinkable and is bottled for consumption. The taste is strong and the smell is like isopropyl alcohol. At actual professional wisky distillers, this is the point at which the whisky would be poured into barrels and aged for between 3 and 21 years to absorbt he color and taste of the wood. But in the case of moonshine the quality of the flavor was never as important as supplying speakeasies and roadhouses with a ready supply of cheap potent clear moonshine that was mixed with other things to make cocktails. It was called moonshine because it was usually made and transported in the middle of the night by the light of the moon during prohibition to avoid law enforcement.

Best alcohol I ever had was some homemade "white lightning" 15 to 20 years ago. I don't know what it was made from (probably corn) or the proof but it had almost no taste, super smooth, and no burn. I had probably a double shot's worth and a few minutes later I had trouble sitting/standing up straight. Edit: and I got all warm and fuzzy inside.

Moonshine 92% might just fuel small motors! Nothing like Brit's gin & tonic w lime; brandy, etc. Have a designated driver! Cheers!

I've had my share of moonshine and NONE of it came in a jar with a label. 🥴

Real Apple Pie Moonshine snuck up on me and kicked my ass with maybe 3 drinks from the jar. It tastes so good you forget how strong it is.

That's the real danger on most commercial moonshine. You're expecting it to be strong, realize it tastes like candy, then become emboldened and drink more than you otherwise would lol.

The first alcoholic thing I had was moonshine cherries. I was 13 and I figured my mom wouldn’t notice if a few cherries were gone😂

There's a relative of Tequila and Mezcal called Bacanora. To my knowledge, it's specific to the state of Sonora in Mexico. It's like Tequila with a very smokey quality. It definitely tastes stronger than Tequila and I quite like it and sometimes even prefer it to Tequila, but I haven't been able to find it in "the States". Maybe that was the 3rd ingredient your acquaintance was telling you about Daz?

I’d love to see you boys try some homemade moonshine, from what I’ve heard from my buddies it’s a whole lot stronger than in-store stuff

Too bad you couldn’t try some shine from some southern boys lol. Working pipeline in Texas ,I’m from Arizona , there were some hands that were from Louisiana. They made some moonshine that could power a vehicle . Some of them were infused with fruit and it was sooo damn good but almost pure alcohol . It would get you in trouble real fast. lol. Cheers from the US and from Arizona
