The President also has an official "Get Away" in the Maryland mountains called Camp David. It has all the security and communication abilities of the White House. The President can also go to their personal residence. George HW Bush had a ranch in Texas, Ronald Reagan had a house in California where he hosted Queen Elizabeth and they went horse back riding together. Trump has Mar El Lago in Florida and Biden has a beach house in Delaware, where he spends most weekends during the summer.

During college, I attended a conference in Washington D.C. that took place during a huge snowstorm (with a couple of feet of snow). Most of the city and museums were shut down. So, two friends and I were walking around the Smithsonian museums, White House and monuments. While just outside of the White House, we were playing around in the snow and throwing snowballs at one another. One of our snowballs went over the fence into the White House grounds. Within moments, several Secret Service agents (with guns) apprehended us. We were scared to death (especially one of my friends who was from Africa). The Secret Service agents quickly realized that we were just college students playing around and throwing snowballs at one another. However, we were sooooo afraid that we might get into trouble. They laughed and told us to "be cool" and avoid "throwing things" into the White House grounds. They even took pictures with us (and one actually took a photo with my phone). Needless to say, I have known since then that the U.S. Secret Service even notices a snowball at the White House during a snowstorm.

I come from an extended family of White House workers spaning back to the Roosevelt administration. When I was a kid, I loved going to work with my parents and exploring the White House. I got to go in places that aren't on any tour and met every President and First Lady. It's kind of sad that they've had to take so many security measures. I miss the days you could drive down15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, or walk around the Ellipse. There is also a big downside to growing up in a family who all hold Top Secret security clearances. Every year or so I'd have one of my friend's parents or a teacher randomly ask me where one of my family works, so I knew they'd been questioned by the FBI. They'd watch our house, and I believe our phones were bugged. My next door neighbor was CIA, so I never knew if they were watching our house or his. It made for an interesting childhood.

I actually saw someone "jump" the fence at the White House, it was in 94 or 95 so before 9/11 and the massive build up of protection and we could go right up to the fence which wasn't as high. A little kid, maybe 5 or 6 somehow found their way through the gap and landed on the yard. Suddenly all these cops showed up while the kid was playing on the grass while the parents where freaking out. The cops kind of looked at each other wondering what to do, before one of them lead the kid to the nearest exit. It was kind of funny because they just handed the kid back and let the parents go on their way. Like I said this was well before 9/11.

I went to the White House on a tour with my church a couple months before 9/11. We were out on the lawn and a Secret Service Agent walks by with a dog. I recognized it as one of President Bush's dogs. I asked the agent if I could pet it and he said yes just don't pick it up. That was the softest dog I have ever touched. It felt like silk. President Bush was so nice. I didn't get to meet him, but he sent me a letter and a signed picture. I had written to him to tell him about my Dad, who was a Federal Agent that was killed in a helicopter crash. The Secret Service had talked to my Mom and said that even though he wasn't going to be able to meet me, he wanted to do something. It really meant a lot. Washington before 9/11 was totally different. Secure, but not locked down. Love your videos!

I did a White House tour in the 1980s, and it was easy to get in back then. Now tours are only really open to American citizens. Once approved, you'll be allowed to visit.

To be eligible to run for President of the USA, one must be at least 35 years of age and a natural born citizen. Unfortunately, there are some disagreements about the precise meaning of natural born citizen. At minimum, everyone agrees one cannot be a naturalized citizen and run for POTUS, to say nothing of being a non-citizen. An example is Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is a naturalized US citizen. As a US citizen, he can vote in elections. He can run for most political offices except for President or Vice-President.

You’d enjoy the secret service video. Of course everything is limited to what protections are let into the public eye. They can’t divulge everything after all, however, it is pretty cool to see the protocols in place that they allow us to know about. Definitely don’t take security lightly. Blows my mind how much deeper it goes, not just to the president but to all current and former public figures of the government. Arguably one of (if not the most) security oriented and discreet organizations in the entire world. And even with all of that some things slip by from time to time. What separates us from most other countries in this respect is an acute ability to adapt and shift tactics at a moments notice. Love the videos you guys do. Def check out the secret service tactics or even some of the declassified cia missions. The world is nutty

"Based on the thumbnail I think this going to go into some insane stuff, cameras...". It's there a cultural disconnect I'm missing between the US and Canada. Here it often feels like every square inch of public space is covered by security cameras. The not only can be found covering every publicly accessible part of any business except the restrooms, but every ATM has a camera, many traffic lights, they're even an incredibly common form of home security to the point that most residential doorbells these days have a security camera. I'm not sure how exactly that qualifies as an example of an "insane" type of security feature. I think the only security feature more common and simple is just simply a lock.

I think the drones, the pressure sensitive fence that can’t be driven through, the infrared detectors, the missile launchers, a taster for food, 2 bunkers, bullet proof glass, and 2800 plain clothed secret service officers qualifies as extremely intense. In my state cameras on signals are not permitted anymore. The cameras you’ve cited are more privately owned than government managed, and they have limited scope. It’s impressive that “most” residences have security cameras. I don’t think 20% of homes in the US do.

The White House dates to 1792, but that is just the shell of the main house itself. The wings on each side are later additions, and each underwent renovations and expansions. In 1901 under Teddy Roosevelt the first floor was renovated, giving the state rooms the architectural appearance they have to this day. In 1952 the White House itself underwent an extensive renovation/restoration: the interior was emptied and then completely gutted down to the sub-basements, leaving only the exterior stone walls, and a new structure was built inside it and most of the interior architectural work from the Roosevelt renovation re-installed.

Under Trump, there was a massive temporary fence that kept visitors further back. My most recent visit, under Biden, the Trump fence was gone but visitors still could not get as close as before. I've not seen the interior but the exterior is pretty cool. There is this protest that has been going on for four decades, on the north side. Pretty impressive resolve by the volunteers that protest. It is described as a peace vigil and I believe the stated goal is nuclear disarmament.
