One time at the airport in Taiwan, there was a French couple in front of me, trying to communicate in English with the ticketing agent. The agent, a Chinese woman, spoke English fairly well, but the couple--not so good. Me, a native anglophone, could understand them all, but they couldn't seem to understand each other. So I had to translate a little for them, using a little bit of "Frenglish"

To answer the question about a country running out of money being possible, yes it is. That's why we have the IMF. The real question is can the US run out of money considering all the world's major currencies are backed back US bonds. And the answer to that has been a clear no so far, US printers can go brrr if "it has to".

11:05 "Ugh, I have so many chores to do. The dishes need done, the laundry's piling up, and I still need to go grocery shopping!" "Tell me about it. Hey, you know what we could do instead..." "I'm listening..." 14:40 I wish I was British so I could use "if Thatcher had had an Onlyfans we'd still have a navy" 16:00 See I think this is a big part of why the French Revolution was so much more violent than the American one. In the American revolution, we were separatists, fighting for independence. The French were revolutionaries, fighting to overthrow, dismantle, and replace the government. The British just weren't facing the same stakes, so there was no cause for the kind of escalation that happened in France. 16:50 Darths and Droids has this exchange: Yoda: Afraid, are you? Anakin: A little. Y: Fear is the path to the Dark Side. Fear leads to anger. A: But anger leads to passion. Y: Passion leads to jealousy. A: Jealousy leads to nurturing. Y: Nurturing leads to weakness. A: Weakness leads to humility. Y: Humility leads to injustice. A: Injustice leads to heroism. Y: Heroism leads to pride. A: Pride leads to patriotism. Y: Patriotism leads to totalitarianism. A: Totalitarianism leads to power. Y: Power... leads to suffering. A: I don't like... suffering. Y: Mmmm. I sense much fear in you. A: No you don't. Y: Do too.

The skin condition Marat suffered from was likely just a fungal infection, or what we would call dermatitis now. However, this was 1790-1792 they didn't know what it was, or have a medical treatment for it at that time.

We don't exactly know the condition that Jean-Paul Marat had, but is thought to be either dermatitis herpetiformis, scabies, atopic eczema or syphilis.

19:53 What was skipped over is that at the start of the revolution, Marat was writing these papers, which got him in trouble with the military, so they came knocking. Marat escaped through the sewer system. It was here in the sewage system that Marat ended up with the skin condition. I don't know if any information is available on what exactly caused his condition, it likely wouldn't have lasted forever, but it lasted long enough that he died before whatever it was was over. The video makes it seem like he had it for a while prior to this, bug he got it during the revolution.
@gaelicfleur-de-lis62192 жыл бұрын
Many historians believe his condition was likely seborrheic dermatitis. Which is extremely painful especially as the skin dries out. Could be treated today with IV antibiotics and steroids combined with specialized cream. Back then, they didn't have so anything to treat it. There are some behavioral psychologists that think, like Henry VIII, the pain and infections exasperated an already irritable personality. What I find the most macabre is that he called his publication L' Ami du Peuple. Or The Friend of the People. Considering he was calling for many of their deaths, that's more than a little touched. The only mistake Charlotte Corday made was to not slip away silently and go take care of the narcissistic Robespierre

It's true that the queen said that why don't you give them cake if there out of bread . It just shows how delusional the nobility was back then
@Angrenost023 жыл бұрын
It is actually not true. The original quote was made by a french princess who was in fact bewildered by the people's poverty. The quote was then deformed and falsely attributed to Marie Antoinette, most probably to defame her. It is representative of most of the nobility attitude towards the people though
@gaelicfleur-de-lis62192 жыл бұрын
Well.... they were out of touch with the people. Like the Romanov's they paid a heavy price for it. But no, she never actually said that. I doubt she noticed there was a problem until the mob descended on Versailles screaming about the different body parts they wanted to tear off her. She is a tragic figure but not a sympathetic one. Thomas More once said "Politics be King's games, and all too often played out on the scaffold."
