What is kinda crazy is that New York City isn't anywhere near being one of the densest city in the world (it is only ~55% as dense as Paris for example). The most dense city is Manila (which is ~3.9x denser than NYC), and if you used that density, the world could fit into Oklahoma. (And although Oklahoma does look kinda small sitting there right above Texas, it is still larger than the area of England, Wales, and Northen Ireland combined)

There is a small part of Illinois that is West of the Mississippi River. It is called Kaskaskia Island. Originally, the Mississippi River flowed West of Kaskaskia which was the first state capital of Illinois. In 1881, a huge flood wiped out the town and the Mississippi River cut a new channel East of Kaskaskia. The kids from Kaskaskia had to travel through Missouri and cross a bridge to attend high school in Chester, Illinois which is my hometown.

Assuming you could walk from the northernmost point of California to Wales, Alaska (the closest point, I think, to Little Diomede Island) on roads, at 15 minutes per mile, if you walked 12 hours a day it would take you about 75 days. However, the roads end about 750 miles short of Wales. You would be trekking 750 miles through frozen tundra and over treacherous mountains. Most Alaskan towns are only accessible by plane - no roads in or out.

@briansearle6868
@briansearle6868 5 ай бұрын
Incorrect.... The Missouri River is quite technically just the Mississippi River. The Missouri River does not have an outlet to the sea thus it is not a river and is what is known as a tributary. It is still considered the second longest river in the USA cause the Mississippi includes the Missouri when doing calculations on length.
@thomasbeauchamp3781

@@briansearle6868 Then someone needs to explain that to Google, Bing, Wikipedia and every online quiz ever.
@brucew7062
@brucew7062 5 ай бұрын
@@briansearle6868you really should do more research. A river does not have to feed directly into an ocean or sea. A stream of water can still be a river even when flowing into a lake or another river. The Missouri River is a tributary to the Mississippi River and the Missouri River is longer than the Mississippi River before it feeds into the Mississippi River inside the state of Missouri. Combining the Missouri River and Mississippi River is only used in reference as being one flowing body of water in relation to the longest singular rivers in the world. They are two distinctly different rivers that merge only as the Missouri River feeds into the Mississippi River at which point the Missouri stops and the Mississippi begins.

Heres a geographic anomoly, if you want to get from the atlantic ocean to the pacific ocean via the panama canal in central america, logic tells you that you would go from east to west and thats true....except via the panama canal. Going the the canal from the atlantic side, you actually travel from west to east through the canal to go east to west from the atlantic to the pacific, just look at a magnified map of the Panama canal but still see the oceans on either side of the canal and you will see this answer with your own eyes, its not a trick but legitimate and true.

The term “River” has never been well defined. I live next to a river, but grew up on a creek that’s a tributary of this river. In some publications that creek is also listed as a river. Some set rules are ignored anyways. One example is the Mississippi River should be referred to as the Ohio River from the point they meet due to a higher volume. History is the reason for the river retaining its name all the way to the Gulf.

While California is the most populous state in the United States, there are many areas that are very sparsely populated. I lived in Modoc County for about 3 years. This around 4,000 square miles in size, yet only houses about 9,000 people. One orchid old sayings in the county is that there are more cattle in the county than people. Another interested fact is that there is a small library that straddles the United States and Canadian border. For around 200 years Derby Line, Vermont, and Stanstead, Quebec, essentially functioned as one town. Citizens drank the same water, worked in the same tool factory, played the same sports (primarily curling), fought in the same world wars, and were born in the same hospital in nearby Newport, Vermont. They also shared the same cultural center, the Haskell Free Library and Opera House, an ornate Victorian edifice built deliberately on top of the international border in 1901 by the Canadian wife of a wealthy American merchant. In the last several years, though, the common culture of the two towns has been eroded, largely due to the increased emphasis on securing the U.S. border in the years following 9/11.

Mt. Everest is the the HIGHEST mountain above sea level, not the tallest. Mt. Denali in Alaska is actually TALLER than Everest, as Everest sits on a 4000 foot base. From what I've heard (since I was a child many years ago...), base to summit, Denali is taller than Everest (not including Mauna Kea, as most of it is below sea level.).
@steeljawX
@steeljawX 5 ай бұрын
You can always do the technicality of Mauna Kea is taller solely based on the base to peak technicality, but you could also argue that everything shares the same base technically under the ocean at the lowest point. However, there is a difference between highest mountain and tallest mountain and the US has a mountain taller (not higher) than Everest without it having the typical technicality of, "it's base is under water." Mount Denali (formerly called Mount McKinley....also formerly formerly called Mount Denali) from it's base on dry land to it's peak is a longer distance than Everest's base to peak distance. Meaning that Denali is taller even though it doesn't reach higher in elevation. I think it's some 19,000 ft ascent for Everest while Denali it's closer to 21,000 ft ascent. Again, it's that technical difference between higher and taller. Also, being someone who both has been to the Four Corners and lives in one of the Four Corner states, you don't need to try too hard on that one. There's a monumental "compass star" paver in what would arbitrarily be the boarders of the 4 states meeting point. It's a whole attraction thing of you stand over that paver and you're technically in all Four States. Maybe some wise a*s marches up and demands you pay tax to one state and another rushes in demanding it for another all in jest. It's definitely a tourist attraction and it's not like states have boarder patrols for each other, aside from Alaska and Hawaii in the form of Canada and TSA respectively. That's kind of the beauty of the USA. It's what could equate to 50 nations that tolerate each other enough to agree to vote for someone to take the blame for big mistakes outside of their control. If you go to the Four Corners monument it's not like you have to go get a state passport from one state and then get it signed off by the other 3. You do whatever you want (within reason and civility.) I mean you can come here and "attack" American soil "technically" with a firearm and we really don't care. We may throw more of your tea into a harbor for kicks and giggles, but we really don't care as long as it's in a controlled environment and you're being responsible.

Beesleys, woh, something's different here. Don't tell me! Oh yeah! You switched places. 😉😊 Re. Alaska, specifically, the westernmost island in the Aleutian chain--Attu (at-TWO) is 468 miles/753 km. west of 180 degrees (the standard International Date Line). Big and Little Diomede are DIE-oh-mead, not die-oh-ME-dee. He made a mistake on the Mississippi R., in that the Missouri R. beats it by about 20 miles. However, where the Mississippi shines is in volume of water, since it's a mile wide, though the Missouri is much narrower. The coastline of AK, if you count the coastlines of all of the tons of islands, plus all of the coves and inlets, in addition to the actual coastline, it gets to a whopping 33,904 mi (54,563 km). I was at 4 Corners back in 1987. By the way, it's on the Navajo Res./Navajo Nation. In addition to Pt. Roberts, there are 2 other disconnected places in the USA. First is the village of Angle Inlet in the finger of land that's called the Northwest Angle of Minnesota, which is north of the normal border that goes from Lake Superior in MN out to Puget (PEW-jet) Sound at Seattle. The other one is Hyder, AK, which is in the Panhandle, or Southeast, the rest of which being served by the State Ferry System, but being east of the Coast Mtns., it’s cut off, making a flight, or a 441mi./710km. drive through Canada on the Cassiar, Alaska and Klondike Hwys. necessary to get to Skagway--the nearest other town in AK by road.
