Hello everyone, Hello Andrea . I used to go to London four times a year, like once a season before this epidemic . I am French. In the UK, it is said that you do everything in a different way. You drive on the left side of the road, you have a different counting system, you use different plugs, etc.... It is not easy for foreigners to adapt to your customs. But what took my breath away was your politeness. It's a peace of mind. I was stunned when I watched people standing quietly in the queue, I was stunned in the metro when I watched people getting on the train after everyone got off, I was stunned in the metro by the silence. It's a lot of calm and serenity. Nevertheless, what I find distressing is the high prices of the universities. In France, education is free. And this is a real advantage.

As a typical Persian family we cover all over our houses surface with carpets and then we cover them with rugs and sometimes we even cover the rugs with other kind of carpet. We even cover our blankets by a piece of sheet so they don’t get dirty. Also we have an annual tradition of cleaning and washing all over the house, specially the carpets. It takes place two our three weeks before our holiday, “Nowrooz”. Great lessons though. I’ve learned a lot about your culture and found out we have many things in common. 👌

Thank you, Andrea, for another great lesson! I’ve learnt a lot about British culture and, among other things, I’m very impressed by the English politeness. But, referring to what you said about the custom of giving up a seat, being so common in the UK, I’d like to share with you my personal experience. When I was in London in 1978 (!) as a young boy, some day I gave up my seat on the Tube to an elderly lady. She couldn’t believe it and many other people around seemed to be quite astonished by what I was doing. Then, I asked a friend of mine, who had lived in the UK for a few years, and he explained me that the custom of giving up a seat to somebody else was very little known in Britain, so it might be considered a little bit strange. But, as I said, it was 42 years ago.

For instance; 1, 14, 18 and 22 are same, but 25 and 27 are completely different. We are also crazy about drinking tea. Sometimes we drink more than 6 cups of tea per day. Thanks for everything that you taught me.

Thanks to this episode I know that Great Britain would be a great place to live for me - of course without the love of artificial tan and the high cost of learning. My family is the most easy to spot example for Vietnamese typical family, the country that only use mat (or carpet) to flick off the dust before go in to the house or just for decorating, but mostly we just use it as a vaccum cleaner for our feet ('cause u knows Asian always wear flip flops, and that'd be uncomfortable if you wear flip flops but your feet still contains dust)
