There IS no British accent! There are English, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish accents!. Within those accents, are local dialects: e.g. I was born and raised in Plymouth ... in St Budeaux; which is where the Tamar bridges cross, from Devon into Cornwall ... hence, my accent is English, but my dialect is Devonian; sub-dialect, Plymothian.

I'm an actor from Kentucky and I need to use a British accent from time to time; I can't exactly portray Henry Higgins with an Appalachian accent, as funny as that would be. This video was very helpful. As a final note... purple. Especially the combination of purple and black. I will admit this is probably a holdover from my old goth days.

There IS no British accent - unless one is referring to RP! There is English, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish (N). Within those accents, are local dialects. So, I was born and raised in St Budeaux (in Plymouth), which is where the road and rail bridges cross the Tamar. Hence, my accent is English; but my dialect is West Country - Devonian, to be precise!
