I grew up in Canada, and in Niirt American English the "h" in him, her, haven't or have is hardly ever pronounced. Also, the "g" in "ing" ending is never pronounced. Our sounds like "r" When asking questions in the past tense, "did" sometimes is pronounced like "d", Like: What'd you do last night? I only became aware of these features after I started teaching English. Great video by the way.

A nice lesson Lean. I share with my family. There is one issue with ash sound, in modern RP accent it's changed into "a".

Thank you for the explanations! I find this helpful to understand native speakers better, but it is still very difficult to include this into my own spoken English. For example, I can't do the glottal t myself😅

Thanks for the video! It's really hard to pronounce every single letter, but I noticed that even British people don't do it. This will help me.

Hello Ed. This lesson on elision is very exciting and so interesting. So elision is about removing some sounds? Like how to pronounce words like camera, separate, vegetable. Thanks a lot for your guidance, Ed. 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇

Elision usually only affects the /t/ and /d/ sounds when they are preceded and followed by consonants

As you can guess, all these techniques of speaking mark the differences between intermediate and advanced. However, the more important thing is not the level but the communication. In my case, the glottal sounds are my pain in the neck, both to listen to and speak to. Some advice will be well received. Thanks in advance.👍👍

Aren't all plosive consonants affected by elision in final position when followed by another plosive or other consonants?

@LeanEnglishPronunciation
@LeanEnglishPronunciation Жыл бұрын
@@intuicjaofficial Consonants may be elided from words like 'ask' but this type of elision doesn't follow any specific rules. The other phrases are examples of gemination and stop sequences which I explain in these videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZSQeH2Cnpl3fbM kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2elo6CAqNeXotk

@@LeanEnglishPronunciation Oh yes, the gemination examples are clear, but isn't a rule to drop the final plosive before an intitial plosive or even any other consonant?

Hello! What about the contractions like, can't /don't, etc, can't the T sound be elided altogether if followed by a consonant sound?
@LeanEnglishPronunciation
@LeanEnglishPronunciation 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, we can elide the T sound in 'can't and 'don't when it is followed by a consonant sound.
@apdorafa-rafaelalmeida7159
@apdorafa-rafaelalmeida7159 2 жыл бұрын
In American English, whether can"t is followed by a vowel sound or a consonant sound we hardly ever pronounce the "t". We can differ between can and can"t because the "a" vowel sounds differently in those two words.
