The US is a country made up of numerous, very unique and diverse cultural regions. We have such a variety…from topography to climate to cuisine to culture. We may not always embrace the differences but I for one am appreciative. ❤️

well that is basically as an american what we say about the country to europeans. Think of it as europe except where you have a large area with many countries, we have a large area with many states. Think state=country. In size the US and Europe are about the same size, so its easy to compare. You have germany, france, italy, we have south dakota, georgia, maryland, and so on. And also most forget. Canada right above is is BIGGER than the united states. It doesn't have the international focus like the usa has, but people tend to forget the hat on top of the usa is bigger than the usa lol.

Like c'mon we have 2 great lakes, Niagara Falls, a bunch of beautiful farmland, multiple mountain ranges and the Finger Lakes. This is actually a pet peeve of mine cause in 2003 I moved to Tennessee just before my final year of high school. Everyone at school would notice my lack of southern accent and my mild Buffalo accent and ask where I was from, I would say "New York" and immediately "OMG what was it like at ground zero?" "how bad was 9/11" and I had to start saying "There is a state attached to that city..."

Annapolis is our state capital. It was founded during the 18th century, and the downtown area remains largely unchanged since then. The capitol building, which dates from this period, is the oldest state capitol in continuous use. Annapolis is an old port city, and it is known as a sailing center, including some very high-tech and elite design and manufacturing firms. It is also the home of the U.S. Naval Academy (for football fans, this is where Navy plays). All in all, the city ties together the urban and suburban core to the north and west (the area between Baltimore and DC), with the more rural and nautical Eastern Shore and Southern Maryland. Thanks for the shout-out -- we think Annapolis is very unique.

Several Europeans tell me that Annapolis reminds them of European cities, with its narrow streets, lined with shops. The last time I was there, I was on wide streets, with a modern shopping mall, but I was taking my mother to a medical office there and not touring.

@@jimjungle1397 As an interesting sidebar, the modern, developed area at the western edge of Annapolis is called Parole. It got that name because, during the Civil War, it was the site of a large camp where Union POWs were sent after being captured. Under the system of "parole" used by both sides, captured soldiers were removed from active duty and then offered the ability to sign a pledge that they would not fight until they were officially exchanged or their enlistments ran out. Then, they could go home. My great-grandfather, who was captured by Stonewall Jackson's troops at Harpers Ferry in 1862, was paroled at that very camp outside Annapolis. He went back home to Ohio, where he stayed for more than a year, until he was able to re-enlist in late 1863 to serve out the remainder of the War. BTW/the parole system broke down after the first year or two, and after that, both sides set up (horrific) POW camps, where thousands of men died. Had Parole (and parole) not been there in 1862, I would probably not be here, either.

I miss Annapolis so much. My dad is an Air Force Vet and at one point we lived there (but my dad worked in DC). I was still young (ages 5 to 7), but I still remember the place since I started my schooling there. The daycare was called Wee Lad and Lassie and I loved it. I once remember going to a picnic of sorts where we ate crab because I remember my dad helping me opening a crab with a hammer lol. I did cry when we had to leave (we moved back temporarily to Texas, where my family is from and where I am now). My dad's next assignment was Colorado.

He really shirked the description of Louisiana. We have swamps, jazz, creole and cajun food. New Orleans is full of Spanish and French influences. Baton Rouge is home to Louisiana State University (LSU Tigers). I've been to Mississippi so many times and although they aren't a "rich" state, they are so friendly. I'd gladly call Montgomery county my second home if I could.

Agreed. I recently spent a few months in Mississippi for work and it has great restaurants, natural beauty, a cool college town (Oxford, also home of William Faulkner), and some interesting Civil War sites. And Jackson has some great museums, as well as the restaurants.

I am originally from Connecticut, but have lived in North Carolina for 27 years and consider this beautiful state home. The Appalachians are some of the oldest mountains in the world, with abundant streams and waterfalls. And we have amazing beaches, including the Outer Banks. The weather is mild but summers are hot and humid. It is a great place to visit and raise a family, with lots of outdoor activities. Charlotte and Raleigh/Durham are some of the fastest growing cities in the US. And lets not forget about that wonderful southern hospitality!

I live part time in western NC and it is so beautiful. We have a change of seasons without brutal winters, and our summers are very mild here in the mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway begins in western NC and it is one of the most gorgeous drives around. Also, western NC has so many beautiful waterfalls, many of which are easily accessible.

I'm from Durham and my dad is a transplant to Durham and has adopted it as his home. My uncle lived there a bit before him. They knew one of the first people to ever live on Main St in an apt (they moved here over 35 years ago). He hates that RDU is called the Raleigh Durham airport since it is in Durham. He also hates that people refer to them as one city instead of the Raleigh/Durham area hahaha. Edited because apparently my spelling is stuck in Spanish at the moment (I'm trying to learn).

The Kentucky Derby is the first Saturday in May and not on Sunday. Also Daz, it's always held at Churchill Downs. You may have been thinking of the Breeders Cup which moves each year. In 2022 it was held in Lexington at Keeneland.

Daz: Kentucky is big in horse racing because it's big in horse breeding and raising. The rolling hills of Kentucky are near perfect pasture land for horses. I grew up in Maryland. We have much the same phenomenon which is why we have the second jewel in the racing "triple crown", the Preakness.

I grew up fairly poor in rural Alabama and our house and yard was always kept clean and well kept. Especially after I turned about 13 or 14 and I was aware enough to really help my dad with cleaning the house. So I absolutely agree with Daz about keeping your place up even if you don’t have a lot of money. The one thing I will say I realized after I was older is that some people where I grew up are so poor they actually didn’t have running water or electricity. That could have been because they couldn’t afford it or because it wasn’t available. However that would be a very few people that lived that way though.

Actually, Cleveland is not one of America's most depressing cities any longer. The announcer has purpously ignored Cleveland's downtown and several neighborhood revivals that are continuing to this day. Cleveland's art museum is literally one of the best in the entire world. Also, Pittsburgh is beautiful and underrated. Also less than thirty miles outside of downtown Cleveland is Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Skyline Drive is actuall pretty nice. But it's all good. I know there are more scenic states...but I wouldn't want to give another damn penny to California or New York...Oregon or Washington; or any other Leftist shithole. Well maybe Hawaii...but ONLY Oahu...to visit Pearl Harbor of course. But no worries man...we all have our opinions. :)

I attended university in Hawaii (just graduated in 2021) and there's a huge poverty/homeless problem there as well. The only difference is that they all live in the jungles and beaches instead of in tents in the city

I worked in Cleveland for years, lived in Lakewood bordering Cleveland's west side for 14 years. There are some fantastic restaurants in CLE, Michael Symon has a couple. Every city has some bleak areas but to say Cleveland is 'depressing' is a bit extreme. Great food, great museums, some of the best hospitals. The Cleveland Metroparks are a beautiful system of parks running from the east to west sides ('The Emerald Necklace').

He didn’t mention that Washington State is home to two huge, beautiful national parks, Mt. Rainier and Olympic National parks. We also have beautiful lakes and the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. There are diverse climates depending on where you are, rainforest, ocean, temperate, mountains, Palouse and high desert in the southeast corner of the state.

Visit in winter or fall and it will be cold, wet and cloudy, visit in the summer and it will rain like once, twice, or not at all and be in the 90's hell sometimes it get's into the 100's or 110's

The very direct and almost "aggressive" way of talking he mentions for NJ is fairly common thru the northeast in and near major cities. You should show them videos that are specifically dedicated to the nature, landscapes, and climate zones in the US! something like the top 25 national parks or just videos of people ranking their favorite vacation spots around the country! there are tons of videos out there like that Also love to hear that you love vermont, I've only went once in late september 2020 (perfect time of the year) with a few friends up to a charming little mountain town east of Burlington called Stowe. we got a nice house up on a hill with a view of the tallest mountain in the state (Mt. Mansfield) and man I wanna go back so bad. And visit more of New England. the area is magical

Colorado is an incredible state, had the priviledge of living there for about 8 years and just driving through the state is a wonder. It is an expensive place to live especially in the tourist cities like Aspen, but its worth it for the outdoors alone.

I have been in 49 of our amazing states and I have seen incredible beauty in all of them. Once you know the regional difference of the people, then you know what to expect. The people of the USA are generally great. The people of the deep south are especially friendly and helpful.

Kentucky Derby is Always at Churchill Downs. It’s the first race in the Triple Crown series , followed by the Preakness in Baltimore and the Belmont Stakes in New York. It’s the three largest horse races and very rare to have the same horse win all three races.

I've driven through western Mississippi and I thought it was fascinating. Clarksdale the birthplace of the blues, Tunica riverfront casino area, *the river there is wide and it flows fast with timber floating 50 miles an hour? The Siege of Vicksburg was a Civil War battle site pivotal in cutting the Confederacy in two and Jackson a charming but mostly abandoned Capitol city with its antebellum Governors mansion and history.

Organized tours that travel through Arizona and its neighboring states are popular with foreigners, particularly the French. I’ve heard from someone who leads these tours that the foreigners are amazed by the wide open space, the colors of the deserts, and will cry when they see many of incredible scenes where old westerns were filmed, most famously with John Wayne. Arizona has the beautiful rock formations, and the cacti are also amazing. The red skies are stunning. Just don’t visit in the summer.

They made it sound like it was all desert lol, there's hundreds of, millions of acres of forest, a person can easily disappear and never see another soul in the forest the rest of their life, there's numerous rivers and creeks and 40 different waterfalls and one of the biggest waterfalls in the world, there's Cibeque Falls which has the most gorgeous looking light blue water sitting against red rocks and Havasupai Falls is considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world and not many people know about it or even see it, the desert is just a tiny aspect of the state, it would take the better part of a year to see everything in Arizona.

We had to evacuate to Arkansas during Hurricane Rita and they were the most generous, wonderful people. A vet's office boarded our animals for free and everyone really helped put us at ease.

California has 9 national parks. It’s weird how they only ever mention Yosemite. There’s Kings Canyon, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, Death Valley, etc. we’ve also got 5 MLB teams, 3 NFL teams and 4 NBA teams. There’s always something to do. We have beautiful coastlines and San Francisco. I think you guys definitely need to come visit us in California! 😊 I would pay money to see Daz tailgating at the Stanford/Notre Dame game, or a 49ers game.

Annapolis is site of the US Naval Academy, our equivalent of the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth. It's not really a "base". The only boats there are sailboats used by the students there learning to be US Navy officers. As for Maryland, it wasn't "thrown together" or any such thing. It was established by a land grant by your King Charles I to George Calvert, 1st Baron Baltimore, in 1632 for the establishment of a Catholic colony (as opposed to the other colonies which were largely founded by Protestants and weren't welcoming to Catholics).

West Virginia is absolutely beautiful country. Visually kinda similar to parts of Vermont and New Hampshire with hill after hill and dense forest. Culturally couldn't be more different than those two states. I grew up in Virginia where the only time I ever saw a horizon was when we went to the beach as a kid. Traveling out to the midwest and the desert southwest I think one of the most stunning things is seeing horizon in every direction out there. Nature just seems so much more expansive when you can see 100 miles in the distance.

My experience with Ohio is that there is a large urban/rural split in culture, economics, etc. There are a lot of pleasant small towns in the rural areas. There are also sprawling suburban areas. Most of those people will have little to do with the inner cities. So, you have a big dichotomy between Rust Belt, struggling cities and small-town Ohio. Granted, that's a pretty good description of most of the U.S.

Life long Maine resident. We have a saying about our weather. "If you don't like the weather, wait 20 minutes." We do have brutal winters. Spring is nice after "mud season". Summer can be hot, but you have wait until the water warms up to cool off. Fall is great. 😃

Maine is also the only state that only borders one other state. It survives on year round tourism. It can get really cold here in the winter so bundle up (last winter (2022 - 2023 for future proofing) we had a cold snap where it was -29⁰F out with a windchill of-42⁰F). It's not uncommon to hit single digit or negative temperature. We also have SUPER cheap lobster. If you come here AVOID LEWISTON as much as possible. Maine is so safe that many people don't bother locking their doors when they leave or go to bed and sounds weird when an alert goes out saying to lock the doors (such as the mass shooting in October 2023).

Cool things about New Mexico from a resident. 1. It is the 5th biggest state 2. It’s not just dessert, it’s actually the only state you can find different climates, desert, snow capped mountains, white sands (like desert but colder and white), minor jungles and green plains. 3. We have the Carlsbad Caverns which are the largest accessible caves in the US 4. Santa Fe is the oldest capital in the US established 1607 5. Roswell has been known since 1947 for alien sightings including one of the most well known UFO sightings 6. Roswell also has the New Mexico Military Institute, an military school founded in 1891 and also a high school and Junior College, recently their JC football team won the national championship

My brother loves and has lived in Colorado on and off for years. You have sand dunes, and snowy mountains. It's a trip, and very beautiful. I've been to 32 states, and lived in 5. I suggest avoiding Arkansas, especially if you like to drink as it's mostly a dry state. I hope to see the rest of the states - bucket list. Also on the bucket list is Ireland, Italy and New Zealand. I've been to Mexico and Canada, but before the world went mad - didn't need a passport. Same with the USVI. The day we returned from St. Croix to Florida, the law changed and required a passport.

70% of New Jersey is woodlands, farmlands, or rural towns. It has very densely populated cities and many suburbs along the eastern and western coasts, but in the middle is beautiful countryside with orchards, cranberry bogs, and the best tomatoes in the U.S 😂…….

I'm from Delaware and I genuinely love it here. Not much going on unless you live in one of the bigger cities which is how I like it. Just some peace and quiet. We actually have all four seasons unlike some other states which are either always hot or cold year round based on location. Some good beaches and if you you're into them, we have a race track and the Firefly music festival in the summer.

You can drive 12 hours in Texas...and still be in Texas. I live in PA. It's takes 8 hours of driving to cross the state corner to corner. I'm nearly 50 and have still seen less than half of the country....it's massive.

I'd argue June as the best time to visit Wisconsin (outside Milwaukee). It's before the real heat wave that July and August bring, but after the wet spring. September is generally pretty decent as well. Fall tends to be short and unpredictable. Winter sucks here, but I guess certain states do, in-fact, have it worse.

Kentucky comment correction: The Kentucky Derby is ALWAYS held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY on the first Saturday in May. It is the first of the Triple Crown Races for 3 yr olds. The huge race meet that moves around the country is the Breeder's Cup Races and that meet is held in November annually. BTW, Kentucky is the Bourbon Capital of the world as well .... can't believe that wasn't mentioned in the video.

Jimmy Carter is from Plains Ga. Stone Mountain is the largest exposed granite in the world and many monuments and buildings are made from it (Lincoln Memorial). We have part of the Okefenokee swamp. The "Continental Divide" is the part of teh country where water either flows east or west from that point on. East of this divide, all water from all rivers and lakes flows East, and West of the divide it all flows West. I'm not sure if they have such a thing in Britain per se. I'm sure Europe does.
