Brilliant job guys 💯👌👌🙌😋 The pastry baking- have you another oven proof dish that will fit or at least the bottom of it,fit into your dish? Piece of parchment and then the other dish on top to blind bake the pastry base first is the cheapest way,instead of buying baking beads. Personally,I have tried the green beans casserole,used cream of mushroom soup/crispy onions etc- ooofff,that’s worth trying every day of the week…

Hello! I know that I can't speak for all of America, but personally, I love the idea of the whole world sharing this day with us. I'm sure it's good for the soul for us to take a day to reflect upon whatever we can be thankful for. And if we all celebrate on the same day, it just creates an even greater sense of community. Thank you so much for this!

I love that more people are celebrating this holiday. It's always good to take a day and be thankful for what and who you have in your life. It's a day to help cast off the negativity that builds up in your day to day life, and cast it out with a day of good food and time spent with the people you love. Which I think is universal enough for everyone, from every walk of life. It's a holiday we all can share. ❤️

Stuffing is called that because it was stuffed into the turkey to cook there. The gravy was made with the package of innards that is placed inside the turkey from the butcher, called giblets. The sweet potato dish can be made many ways and is often called candied yams. These are not criticisms, the main thing is family and giving thanks. You have a lovely family and the sharing of this video is blessing to all who view it. Thank you for the sharing. I love how people in different countries are accepting of the tradition and the sentiment. Also check out sweet potato pie, very similar to pumpkin pie.

For a par baked pie crust... you need to poke the bottom of the crust with a fork to let the steam out so the crust doesn't bubble up. Also placing a piece of parchment in it and use some dried beans to hold it in place. Beans will be useless for anything but as the weights afterwards so don't try to eat. Also you ended up making a crustless sweet potato pie instead of a casserole. For the casserole, just cut the sweet potato into chunks...mix all ingredients minus marshmallows together, place in dish and bake...in last 10 mins of cooking, place marshmallows on top until browned.
@pryland10
@pryland10 Ай бұрын
Actually, the sweet potato casserole I grew up on was not chunky. It was very similar to the pie but was done with sweet potatoes you would mash up to make mashed potato style. Using the mixer does puree it in essence so I get why you say that to them. If you mash them up, they still have a stringy bits in them but no chunks.

Genarally when you blind/par bake a pastry crust, you "dock" it. Meaning you prick/poke the bottom, only, with a fork so it doesn't puff up. Another trick is to fill it with rice or dried beans to weight down the bottom from puffing up. Generally for about 8 to 12 minutes depending on the temperature setting. The best trick for a busy cook day like Christmas or Thanksgiving is to make as many of the sides the day or two before so all you need to do is warm them through on the big day

If your oven has a rapid preheat function, that will turn on the broiler (flame jets in the top of the oven). So if you're used to putting something in the oven while you're waiting for it to reach temperature, you'll burn whats in there. If you're gonna do it that way, dont do rapid preheat, or wait for the preheat to finish, THEN put it in the oven.

When I was growing up we always had a “relish” tray. It included green and black olives, stuffed celery (with pimento spread or cream cheese spread), sweet pickles, pickled vegetables (usually found in the pickle aisle), and any other small vegetable). We also have corn casserole that can be eaten cold too. Take 4 cans of white (also called shoe peg) and 2 cans of chopped chilie. Drain and set aside. Combine 16oz cream cheese, cut up and placed in pot with 4 tablespoons butter cut up, 1/2 cup milk and a tsp of garlic salt. Heat until melted and smooth. Add corn and chilis and combine. Poured into a 2 quart oven safe dish and dot top with butter. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese and sprinkle with paprika. Bake in oven at 350 degree for 30 minutes. Yummy! Hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving!

I was so impressed by your son's willingness to try everything...I have four children (all adults now), and 50% of them eat the same thing from the table every year, roasted turkey with gravy, mashed potatoes, and a buttered dinner roll. The other two will partake of all the different dishes. This year, we have roasted turkey (seasoned with compound butter with Adobo seasoning) and homemade gravy, mashed potatoes, prosciutto, pignoli, and fennel dressing (it's dressing if it's on the side rather than stuffed into the turkey's cavity for cooking), cranberry/orange sauce, seasoned, savory roasted sweet potatoes (no marshmallows) and sweet peas (because I must have something bright green on the plate and they're delicious). I'm 53 and have my own family now. I host every year and love it. When I was a kid, I always looked forward to going to my grandmother's house for Thanksgiving, seeing my cousins and going to the movies after dinner. Always a tradition in my family growing up. Then in my twenties, I looked forward to the Wednesday before Thanksgiving as this was always the biggest party night of the year for bars and night clubs. Still is, there is a term for it "Blackout Wednesday"...lol. And let me tell you from experience, there is no greater cure for a hangover than Thanksgiving dinner. Then of course, most people have the Friday after Thanksgiving off, which, much like "Boxing Day" in the UK, is the biggest shopping day of the year. It's called "Black Friday". Loved watching you guys celebrate Thanksgiving. Tell ol' King Charles to get with the program and declare it be so! Happy Thanksgiving guys!

What makes Thanksgiving so special and wonderful is the family, friends, food, fun, and reflecting on what one is thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving yo you guys! Canada celebrates this holiday too. Try docking (putting fork stabs) all over the pie crust before baking. Will help to not puff up. I make the “real” pumpkin pie from scratch. Filling: 3:50 roasted pumpkin in oven. Mash and put in eggs, carnation evaporated milk, 1/4 tsp salt and 1/3 tsp cinnamon (no nutmeg, but a pinch is ok) bake until set. I roast pumpkin in fall, mash and bag into 2 1/4 cup in bags; freeze for muffins or pie or whatever. It is easy and so nutritional.

I always add a pinch of ground cloves to my pumpkin pie filling. I used to roast my own pumpkins, but now that we have 2 kiddos under 6, I use organic pure packed pureé. My go to pie crust recipe is Martha Stewart's pâte brisèe. It's quick and easy and always results in a flakey, tender and buttery crust. Happy Thanksgiving! 🍁🦃🍂

My father in law was usually the main chef of Thanksgiving dinner cooking the Turkey, (usually a 18-22 pound bird) he would collect the drippings from it as well as cooking up the giblets and creating a wonderful hearty gravy) my wife’s specialty was the homemade green bean casserole and I loved cooking up the cranberry’s and making a delicious cranberry sauce usually spiced with some cinnamon, nutmeg and a bit of orange peel, sweet potato casserole was one of my favorites after the Turkey,

Pumpkin pie spices can also include; cloves, mace, allspice, and ginger as well as nutmeg and cinnamon. When parbaking pie crust use pie weights, or beans to hold the shape.

I used to buy cranberry sauce... Never liked the whole cranberries. But as I've gotten older... Making cranberry sauce with whole cranberries and I love it! It's so easy to make. All you do is add sugar. I add a little orange zest and a little bit of cinnamon... Some people choose to add a little bit of diced apple as an accent? And for your stuffing always heather nice chicken or turkey broth. And an egg poultry seasoning, sage and even bay leaf... Celery a few bits of diced apple or cranberry... I'm watching you do your pumpkin and I'm really perplexed! I've never seen it done with cornstarch or coconut oil? Usually it's done with cream, pumpkin egg, spices such as nutmeg, allspice, ginger, clove, and cinnamon, sugar and vanilla. For your pastry, you can wait it down with rice or they have little baking balls... The actual history of the first Thanksgiving in America get sort of lost. But actually it was the Puritans who were thankful for the religious freedom from the church of England (Because the Church of England believed in the Trinity and the Puritans did not), And also political freedom... And they took The long held tradition in England of a harvest gathering, which was to pay homage to the gods for a good harvest and Incorporated it with each other items.

I add little pieces of clementine or orange, and a little less sugar than called for. The acids in the citrus help cut down some of the bite, but help it retain the sweet and tart contrast

A cranberry chutney is very easy to make if you have a small slow cooker but can be done stove top. You just need a package of cranberries (fresh or frozen) a 3/4 cup of sugar, a peeled an separated naval orange, a cinnamon stick, and 2 bay leaves. It's simple but a wonderful sweet side for your savory turkey dinner.
