That's quite right. We farmers/gardeners never throw anything away, because you'll probably want it next week. Buckets have a multitude of uses for feeding animals. Back in the 60s, we used to mix the food with shovels, turning the back and forth several times before bagging it up for the animals. Never been a more dusty job. Thanks for the video Rufus.

I think every farm has it's quirks. I get the bucket thing you can never have enough buckets.

I mix all my own feeds in an old beaten up cement mixer. I also have a big old hummer mill that I can run off the pto off the tractor to crush all the grain. Can’t have enough buckets!! Looks to me everything is working smoothly on Sarah’s farm

@Flank Farm I absolutely relate to the farm quirks! I was raised on a farm in Indiana, USA and I remember the buckets, makeshift gates, and the twine. Oh........the twine!!! No farm can survive without it!! 😀😀 Thanks for the memories!!

I love the farm and all the quirks make total sense. I lived my childhood on a farm and understand everything may come in handy one day. Now I live on a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific and you should see how I have constructed some of my pig pens.

So Much Fun and Infomational, too! These are awesome quirks! I totally understand your mom (mum) in her thinking. Not sure what that makes me. But to add to her apparent hoarding (as we call it here in the colonies), one never knows when one will need just this item ... or ... if one needs the item but hasn't hung on to all the ones one has had and suddenly now cannot afford to buy the item! That last one is why I clung to stuff I never used for years and years. Always afraid I'd need it and wouldn't be able to afford to buy it, especially as I aged. But now I realize I don't need it and am stuck with stuff I have to get rid of anyway! I loved the one shed full of things that could come in handy, the shed that wasn't visited often, the one with the bottom half of a liquid dispenser shaped like a trophy, because it reminded me of my drawers (furniture ones, not clothing ones) where I find forgotten treasures every time I'm looking for something else I'm sure is in that drawer but never is. So Mom is quirky, her accent making it hard for this yank to understand so am happy for captions, her delightfulness and laughter and flitting from subject to subject (like me), her energy (not like me unfortunately) and her love of the farm, her animals (like me except I'm only blessed with 6 cats and not a farm full of preciousness), and her son! Love the video's flitting from items to items to items to prove your point of so many of the same items. And, finally, totally agree with Mom that as we get older, we love buckets! Love from this side of the pond!😻

Hahaha, thank you Patricia! So lovely to hear from you. Also of course, everything is more expensive when you need it 'right now'... it's often best to have it already just in case. I always find the 'rainy day' mentality a hard one to work out which side of the fence I'm on.

Quirky folks can't see quirky. Of course an ex-bathtub is a livestock water trough, silly Ru!. I bubble wrap my young fruit trees in winter to protect them from deep frost for their first couple of years. I use old carpet to lay under my woodchip paths between rows of berry canes and on the floor of our machinery shed, which is a dirt floor. I have multiple empty molasses drums, IBCs and not-enough pallets. I have pallet envy🤣

Brilliant video and I can relate to all three quirks on my own farm. I have buckets for everything and everywhere. My fences are mismatched, bits of wire, wood, string and whatever I can find and I have a collection of feed bags for feed and animal waste and carrying hay and stay around. I also mix my own feeds to. Visitors to my farm also find them quirky. Love the video Ru and Sarah. Keep up the great work 😊

Mixing your own feed isn't a quirk! Many farmers do it! Many farmers save "stuff" too, for the same reason as your Mum does - why buy an x when you can make do (even if it has to be mended) with a y?
