Millions of us played football from youth, junior high, and high school football. Some of us played in college. We are taught from youth football onwards to give out and receive extreme punishment on "every" play. And we all learned to bounce back up and continue playing. (We use to love looking at the colors from other teams' helmets on our helmets.) That's why the players in the videos all look like machines going to battle on every play. .... In spite of what the video title says, it was much more violent in 1970s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s before the rules changes. And, we used to do this to each other on the playgrounds and backyards every week.

That last one was Jadeveon Clowney. He played High School just 30 min. from where I live so I was aware of him early on. He was a beast. I was delighted when he announced he was going to my beloved University Of South Carolina. The back story to that play, refered to as "The Hit", is that on the previous play it was 4th down. Michigan ran the ball and it was too close to call so they brought out the chains. When they measured it it was blatantly obvious the bell was short. The ref signaled 1st down. What you saw was the very next play from scrimmage. Thats why you hear the announcer say "South Carolina deserves to have it, and they do!"

Jadaveon Clowney in the last one--6'6", 270lbs, 4.5 sec in the 40 yard dash. I think he was the first player selected overall in his draft year. Had injury problems in the pros, but still and excellent pro career. Is a free agent this year---some team will get a freak.
@A_Name_
@A_Name_ Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call his career excellent. He has had a solid career but he has never come close to being worth that 1st overall pick. He wasn't a bust but his career has played out more like a good mid to late 2nd maybe even early 3rd rounder value wise.
@saintsataniko2116
@saintsataniko2116 11 ай бұрын
@@A_Name_ A pass rusher of his talent would still be a first round pick even with the uneven career he has had. Just not first overall. He has had games where he dominated, just not nearly enough of them and like a lot of hugely talented pass rushers (Jevon Kearse) coming out of college the injuries accumulated playing against massive NFL linemen every week prevented him from living up to his ability. In Texas he and J.J. Watt should have been the scariest D-Line duo in NFL history, but they could hardly keep them on the field at the same time because of injuries.
@A_Name_
@A_Name_ 11 ай бұрын
@@saintsataniko2116 knowing what we know now only an idiot would spend a first on him. The best attribute a player can have is being on the field, he couldn't do that and even when he could he wasn't dominant like watt was. Watt even with injuries was still worth a first because he was insane. Clowney was just good, good + injuries = ok.

7:00 That definitely happens occasionally, but if it effects you to the point where it changes your style of play its typically the beginning of the end of your playing the sport. It happens to everyone eventually in this game, and the ones who can't have amnesia about it just stop playing very quickly and dont make it to the higher levels. If you hesitate in this game you are just asking to get hurt worse.

You're absolutely right. These guys are in their prime (18-22 years old) and are giving their everything to hopefully noticed by the NFL. They've lived and breathed this sort of thing for a good ten years (roughly half their lives, or more) and they go nuts showing their athleticism. College football is about as big as the NFL here in the U.S. but CFB fans are way more passionate, and to a greater degree if they actually went to the school that's playing. It gets silly. Also, I never played football in school (I was big, but way too slow) but I did play with friends like this, without pads. Size sometimes doesn't matter. I got thrown off my feet and had my nose broken by a kid a foot shorter than me. Also, there are a lot of hotels near Ohio Stadium in Columbus. You may or may not die, but it's a good time.

JD Clowney is from my home state of South Carolina. An absolute freakish athlete and that hit was one of the greatest ever because of how incredibly fast he got into the backfield and the impact was like being in a car crash. But what was most impressive is that Clowney was so unfazed by the impact that he instantly grabbed the football with his left hand and started to run. Finally that hit literally came just one play after South Carolina clearly stopped Michigan from getting a first down, and although they measured it and it was shown on television to be inches short, the ref signaled First Down for Michigan anyway. The very next play Clowney took the ball back himself with the biggest hit of the season and SC won the game.

@jasonraines8282 Not anymore. When USC and UCLA join the Big Ten in 2024, Penn State will not be guaranteed to play Ohio State or Michigan every season like in years past with the divisional set-up. They will only play Ohio State in 2024. In fact, Penn State isn't guaranteed annual games with any Big Ten team as they will be the only school in the conference without at least one protected "rivalry" school. So this is literally the last season for the guaranteed games against both OSU and Michigan.

It's natural for players, especially Receivers, to want to be cautious when catching the ball in a dangerous area. Problem is, you have to play with a warrior mentality. If you don't catch a ball because you were scared of getting hit, you are 100% getting benched and you would lose A LOT of favor with the coaches.

In football your play can change from an injury for sure. You would see it more in the past with running backs that get knee injuries, a lot of times after that they aren't the same. You'll see some RBs that try to stay up forever and won't go down til 5 guys are hanging on them. After an injury sometimes they will drop down before the extra guys come to pile on.

Big hits tend to be remembered in the game. If a receiver gets rocked extending for a catch the next one he might not really reach for. The next game he has probably forgotten and will go for it. When the QB gets hit a lot in the game they will generally start throwing the ball away sooner and not trying to extend the play. It really all depends on the players but, yeah big hits do make a difference.

These hits do affect you. That is why the defense is coached to hit hard and make them remember. As a receiver and a quarterback or running back. You remember, but the higher you go the more you get somewhat immune, because it has happened enough times. Also, I have heard you two talking about this upcoming season and such about who one is choosing and such. I have a "fantasy league" that my family and I have been doing for 30ish years. Daz, there are 128 Division I football teams. You picking Georgia because they won it last year is LAZY. Georgia is not the favorite to win their conference. Georgia is in the SEC (Southeastern Conference). This is the best/toughest conference is college football. Georgia is in the East division of the SEC, so they have Tennessee and Florida to fight for the East. The West of the conference is Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and Texas A&M. Plus in 2024, Texas and Oklahoma are joining the SEC, and Clemson and Florida State may be joining the SEC the following year. Google search all college football National Champs, and you will see mostly SEC schools including Texas, Oklahoma, Clemson and Florida St. My point being Georgia is not a lock for it. As a matter of fact, Georgia is the underdog to win, because NO SCHOOL has ever won 3 consecutive National titles, unless you go back to the 1934,35 and 36 Minnesota teams, which was very questionable even back then.
