I have to wait 90 days to change my name the EU started as a trading bloc. It has now become about unelected politicians making laws for all 27 countries. I don't know what the future holds for the UK, but I doubt they'd like it if some countries decided they didn't want the Queen as their monarch anymore. There should have been a much higher threshold than 50% to leave the EU. It should have been 60% or even two thirds. The United States Senate didn't convict Trump of with 57/100 votes and yet the UK left the EU with 51.89%. It then took the better part of four years for a withdrawal agreement to come into effect. Then came the global pandemic, which we're still dealing with. I think the UK weakened itself and caused itself trouble with its neighbours. They might have been great a long time ago, but when political matters are dealt with more diplomatically, separating from your allies merely to have more control is usually a disadvantage unless you have much better ideas on how to proceed. I don't think the UK does. And I don't think they will. I think this was pride in who they used to be and a refusal to adapt enough to do what works for them and makes them happy.

I totally disagree. A majority is a majority no matter what the percentage is. 52% of the people of the U.K. who voted,voted Leave.A clear majority of in actual votes well over 1 million. Now if the voter turnout was less than 51% yes it could be said that there is not enough of a mandate but on this one the voter turnout was over 70%,the highest voter turnout in a U.K. wide vote. More than enough for the result to stand.

@@knoxyish And that's just the unsubstantiated attitude that may have put a very long-lasting dent in the UK's relationship with the rest of the world. It was great when they could conquer and colonize because they had connections which provided resources and perhaps assimilated countries closer to their own. But now that that's over and unnecessary ~ even counterproductive ~ they've chosen to separate their alliance with Europe on some level to the point that democracy within Europe wasn't enough. I wonder if the UK has better trade relationships with anyone. Did it help during the pandemic to have to do things on their own? Travel between the UK and their neighbours? Just international relations? We have our own problems in Canada but I hope we never choose to cut ties with anyone who we can be friends/allies with.
