Nice work! 2014 Scotland: We do NOT want independence. 2015 Scotland: Let's all vote for the pro-independence party. Only in this country.
@b0ll0cks19785 жыл бұрын
probably to do with quite a few of the 2010 LibDem and Labour voters going over to the SNP having been disappointed with their Party either being in government with the Torys (2010-2015 Con/LibDem government) or sharing a platform with the Torys (Labour and Torys during the Scottish Referendum).
@b0ll0cks19785 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but why did SNP vote go up by 30.1% on its 2010 performance. I think that has a lot to do with the Labour backing the no vote in the indy referendum in 2014 (so siding with the Torys) and the LibDems being in a coalition government with the Torys between 2010 to 2015.
@b0ll0cks19785 жыл бұрын
Pro-Independence parties got over 50% of the vote through in 2015. Also, the amount for pro-Indy parties and the actual pro-indy vote is very similar. >Cameron had promised a Brexit referendum in 2015 to occur if he won the election. Scotland wanted to stay in the EU, so this would have pushed voters to the SNP. Labour and LibDems both opposed a Brexit referendum so Brexit doesn't explain it. What does is Labours and LibDems staunchly unionist positions during the Scottish referendum.
@b0ll0cks19785 жыл бұрын
@Reckoning We're talking about the 2015 General Election in Scotland, where the SNP won 50% of the vote and The Greens won 1.3% of the vote. If we were talking about the 2017 General Election or 2016 Scottish Election you would have a point. But then I wouldn't have said that the pro-Independence Parties had the majority of the votes since that would be wrong. 'If you combined all of the Scottish votes for pro-union parties such as Conservative, Labour, Lib Dem, Greens...' From the Scottish Green Party wiki page 'It is the only party other than the Scottish National Party (SNP) to both support Scottish independence and have representation in the Scottish Parliament.;

What I find interesting is the sudden swings from one party to the next, it's like, relatively small variations in the vote then suddenly a surge for the opposition and so on. The pendulum swinging in motion. Following this logic, an opposition party should surge in front of the Conservatives at the next election albeit it's hard to see it being Labour so maybe Lib Dems or Brexit party.
@CountScarlioni5 жыл бұрын
It's something of a trend in British politics that the Tories persevere with the status quo until the outrage from society over unsolved social problems forces them from power. Their replacement comes in and enacts the changes the Tories lacked the moral courage to make. Then, when people are sick of the modernising party (be it Liberals or Labour) - usually because they went too far in one go or their changes weren't as advertised, the electorate place the Tories back into power for a while and the cycle begins again. Tories sometimes come along who are smart enough to stay ahead of the game and try to head off their opposition by making very un-Tory changes. For a recent instance David Cameron legalising gay marriage. Or a famous example from history being Disraeli giving the working class the vote in the 1867. He knew the next Liberal government were going to do it so he tried to take the wind out of their sails by "dishing the whigs". As you have noted here, most people would expect the cycle to repeat at the next election with the washing out of the Tories for their austerity dominated sufferings inflicted on the country. However... because of the whole Brexit issue/fiasco. Because of a current Tory civil war. Because of Labour being run by a incomparable imbecile. Because of the change from tri-party politics to full multi-party politics. Because of the weird polarised left-vs-right rhetoric going on globally.... it's nearly impossible to predict what happens next. It seems to be now an age of coalitions. First the Lib Dems, now the DUP. Like much of Europe, Britain may from now on be governed by cooperating parties rather than outright winners. We shall have to see.

Yet not consequential, New Labour was basically Thatcherism with diversity quotas.

You'll probably see something similar next election. Nobody has confidence in the Tories anymore because of Brexit.

@@herbivorethecarnivore8447 similar yes, but a lot more fractured with lib dems and the brexit party probably taking large number of seats from Labour and tories will be very interesting

@@neil2k2 The Brexit party is basically a joke at this point. The only people that want Brexit are old people who don't understand the ramifications of Brexit or will just flat out die before they face the consequences. Parliament is a mess because nobody there wants it either, but you've got fuckers like Boris Johnson who are willing to destroy the country if it means Brexit. Either Labour or the LibDems will win the next election, but it seems Boris wants to destroy the country before that happens.

Shame it doesn't show the latest one. It's the most important in modern UK history.

1979 is more important.

You’ve made a huge mistake there was no such cabinet post as prime minister until the 19th century. Before that is was first minister to the treasury
