Күн бұрын

The English Civil War was a conflict between supporters of Charles I, the Royalists, and supporters of the English Parliament, the Parliamentarians.
Tensions had existed between the two institutions throughout Charles' reign, chiefly over political and religious differences. By 1640, Parliament had been suspended and recalled by Charles a number of times.
The conflict quickly escalted in January, 1642, when Charles left London for the safer North. During the course of that year, English cities quietly built up loyalties to either Charles or the Parliament.
On 22nd August, the King finally raised his standard at Nottingham, declaring war on Parliament.

Your inflammatory comment is completely unjustified here because all of tigerstars mapping videos are completely neutral and don't reflect any political bias. And if you're going to argue that your videos are entirely different (Which is valid) then you should understand that tigerstar can also put out different kinds of content than just mapping videos. If Tigerstar wants to make discussion videos and voice his own opinion then he has every right to do so. His discussion videos don't need to be neutral because they reflect his own opinion which is fine. In my personal opinion however, tigerstar is very neutral in his discussion videos even though he doesn't have to be.

There was a lot more going on in Ireland in the first phase than you show. Ireland is always the most confusing part to me, I never know who is in control of what at any given time. That and Montrose rampaging around the Highlands. Come on, man, it's complicated enough for me to know what's going on, with then having to be trying to remember you're doing stuff, who-knows-when.

Imagine how different history would be if the royalists won the war. Would england still of had an empire? Would Ireland be independent but an ALLY of england? Would the UK ever exist and would scotland be independent?

Why the heck do the French get away with banging on about their 'revolution' bringing about 'liberty' and democracy as if they were the first when the English civil war and establishment of the supremacy of parliament occurred over two hundred years before?

FYI... There were two earlier civil wars in England. First was in 1119, then 1455.

Media and Entertainment By that logic even the tribal wars after Rome left Britain and the arrival of Anglo-Saxons could also be a civil war.

The fighting leading up to the Harrowing of the North in the 11th century and a few years after 1066 might also be class a civil war, but may also be concidered an uprising and invasion, grey area that one. Vikings,Scots and Anglo Saxons under or in favour of Edgar Aetheling and danelaw were behind that.

Is this French Revolution before the French Revolution? I mean... Kings head chopping? Parliamentary dictatorship? Once the chaotic period is over the monarchy returns with limited powers? That's the English version of the French Revolution.

Ironically, the French were shocked at how Parliament had King Charles I beheaded.

It wasn't a parliamentary dictatorship but a military one. Cromwell dissolved the parliament's and would recall them when he needed funding, which is what Charles I had done. People are misunderstanding this as parliament wanting a republic, the majority were not against monarchy but tried to get the king to make concessions but he refused and they eventually executed him. This was because he wouldn't make concessions and as long as he was king the war would continue, so the only choice was to get rid of him. This paved the way for Cromwell who was very powerful and took over. It's more complex than you think.

After Cromwell died it became clear his son could not fill some very big boots as British head of state and that the 'protectorate' wouldn't hold without a head of state worthy of the name. A General George Monke, stationed at Coldstream, Scotland took it upon himself to solve the upcoming crisis with the only practical solution possible. He was seen by many as relatively simple minded yet this belied an apparent genius for diplomacy and deception, Monke played a very nimble political game to lay out the ground ahead and get a small army down to London as innocuously as possible. The Cavalry Division and Guards Regiments he marched South would go on to found the modern British Army. Monke crept in under the wire to enter he capital and secure the Parliament in a cordial manner. Once secured he made arrangements to sail Charles II back over the North Sea in order to re enter London and reclaim his throne.
