This iconic, superstar performance of Prince and the My Guitar Gently Weeps performance with Tom Petty Gave me the feeling that this guy was so superhumanly talented that it felt he could not remain on this Earth with us mere mortals formuch longer. So creative.

So I was watching this on my T.V.and it doesn't give you the info I needed to know. So I was right this was the Superbowl performance. I don't really care for football but I turned my T.V. on that night to that Superbowl halftime performance. I don't even remember who the teams were, I just remembered how I was amazed at his performance and the fact that it was pouring rain and he put on this show, which made Purple Rain even more spectacular.

Epic analysis, one that I will definitely watch again and again not only for the analysis but Fil’s playing along on some of the guitar licks, Prince was a showman and for some people it may have obscured his amazing talent. Perhaps Prince’s genius was easiest to absorb when he was just by himself. His jams during his pre concert sound checks are legendary. From his album Piano & A Microphone is a collection of cassette recordings of his demos with him singing along to his solo piano is a stunning demonstration of his broad abilities.

I got to take a tour of Paisley Park on the 30th anniversary of its opening on September 11, 1987. As the tour ended in the souvenir shop, they had the full Super Bowl performance playing on the big screen. They said it was the only place you could still see the full performance from the night. It was completely mesmerizing. Prince was the master performer. We lost a treasure.

Hi man, this has to be your BEST (Prince) analysis video yet, I loved all 47 minutes of it (they flew by!) and loved all your commentary and even playing along here and there! Keep doing that please. Us Prince fans love all the little details about his performances and hearing serious musicians like you explaining the many things that non-musicians or casual listeners took for granted or didn't even see or realize before is just fantastic, because of that alone this video is worth watching multiple times. It seems more and more people are realizing that (overall) Prince was the most talented and complete musician & artist of all time, which is great because it will help keep his enormous legacy and music alive for 100's of years from now. Much appreciation and thank you so much, have a great day!

Hence the Fentanyl addiction, so sad for him to die so soon, but from what I've read he was in a huge amount of constant pain in the years prior to his death, also the death of his baby son and the end of his marriage must have weighed heavily, but being the ultimate performer was what I think he lived for.🌹🌹❤️🇦🇺

Excellent analysis Fil. I remember this performance. I drove to a friends house who had a media room with a 85 inch screen just to watch Prince’s performance. I could have cared less about the game, I only wanted to see the half time show on that screen. During his Love Sexy Tour he came into the arena in an absolutely insanely huge bed which circles the arena floor. Wouldn’t have been to ideal for the 1/2 time show.

Hi Fil. Thanks for this analysis. I really enjoyed it. Prince was a unique artist. Maybe the most underrated guitarist ever? He was amazing, especially live, where his heart would come out screaming through tailor made, beautiful guitars. In this performance, I think they decided for the wireless set mainly because of security reasons.... with all that water coming down, having Prince directly connected to the live power line would be to risky....they probably gambled that the wireless would hold on long enough before it got to wet to function correctly....and it did.... except for maybe the last 30 seconds🙂. I have a request. Could you make an analysis of prince's live version of Radiohead's 'creep'? I have just discovered it and man.... he's like on hendrix shoulders playing those solos....Big cheers and thanks again Fil for all your work
