Fil freqiently points out that musicians of all genres can learn a great deal from the old folkies, traditionalists, and roots artists - regardless of what genre they aspire to. That's why I subscribed to this channel. Fil doesn't just pay homage because that's a thing that's done. He actually appreciates and can analyze the contributions these artists from previous generations. If you're interested in that sort of thing, you might consider subscribing to Rainbow Quest, which has uploaded all of Pete Seeger's tv shows which went by that name. It is an absolute treasure trove of music from traditional, to blues, to Appalachian, to the early folkies. You can see, for instance, the difference between folkies such as Judy Colins in her early, traditionalist phase as compared to her later folk phase and whatever it is she does now. She once said that she had ruined her voice with drugs and cigarettes and it just breaks my heart to compare her early voice to her later one. You can also see an early Donovan, whom few young folks have heard because he dropped out of the music scene after ten years. He was a huge influence on the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and just about everybody in music in the 60s. He's credited with inventing psychedelic rock. And of course, all the old blues guys like Muddy Waters.

I'm an old friend of your Dad's. From his old Home Town. Back when he was riding his Harley around and hanging out at another of our ol Friends Paint and Body shop before he moved down south to hang out with his cousin.. It was so sad to me to hear that Jimmy passed week before last.. might let your dad know Joe the guy that was with him and Ronnie in Ft. Worth looking for Ronnie a Harley. Funny part was the guy's wife opened the Garage door for us to look at the bike.. little did we know it was a basket case on a work bench next to us. Well your Dad seen this bike setting there and was sitting on it telling Ronnie that man this feels great..then the dude that owned the bike came out in the Garage and told your Dad it was the wrong bike and would he please get off of it. Then he looked at your Dad and freaked out..and started yelling to his wife to come out and see this...I Remember he was so Honored to have had your Dad set on his bike that night..just a good memory I Had with Dash and Ronnie that night..lol 😂 may ask your Dad About that one I'm sure he will remember it well. Sorry for the long story but those people was so Thrilled to have Dash Croft in their garage that night..of course your Dad did an autograph for them..it was a funny look on the guys face when he realized it was your Dad in all his ol Biker duds. God Bless you all..and hope your Dad is doing well... One more note we was going to see your aunt Dot that night but it was to late by the time we got out of there.🌹❤️

Really enjoyed their music back then. During their prime, Loggins & Messina, were the other big harmony singer/songwriter duo. How great to have such choice. Yep, that was the 70s. we could sit through an hour of this, I played that 8 track a lot, Don McClain, go right into Jethro Tull, Heart, Wings, Santana and the Doobie Bros. So the day the music died took a long time to bury because of the artists who kept resurrecting it. Your show makes me think it will never be buried. We May Never Pass This Way Again was our class song. They were immensely popular around here.

Hippies, not to be confused with Jesus Freaks, were antiestablishment socialists freeloaders, Jesus Freaks were cool, hippie like, people who just wanted to get along with everyone and had no political agenda. Another point about hippies they tried 2 excommunicate themselves from society by starting up communes. But most all of them, like most socialist programs, failed. The ones that didn't fail only succeeded because they were forced to run their communes on a capitalist basis with buyers of their goods.

The 60s & 70s produced some of the loveliest acoustic guitar chords ever. You simply can’t find melodies like these any longer. Personally this is another song that brings back memories of summer. As a child I spent hours during my school summer holidays listening to the radio on lazy summer afternoons, such carefree times. Songs like “A Horse With No Name”, “Black Water” and this are summer memory time machines for me.

I Love how the Chorus(with It's Back - Up Choir) builds, to a Crescendo ! Though I suspect the Compressor / Limiter used on the Recording does hold back the Dynamic Range a tad (too much ?). Yet, in spite of that; It's still got "more balls", than Todd & 'Utopia's' attempts ! And though It was the "follow - up tune" to Their bigger selling and better known, "signature song" - " I'd Really Love to See You Tonight". Their Performance & Production of "Love is the Answer", is Vastly Superior to that Monster Hit.

Ahhh, this is so great and uplifting. I remember seeing them in concert in about 1977 in Edmonton Alberta. Very gentle and generous artists. They put on a great show, did their latest hit, "Get Closer" and offered to spend as much time as people wanted after the show discussing the Bahai faith. Incidentally they had Kenny Rogers as the opening act who had just released "Lucille" and told us he was hoping for good things to happen to his career with that song. It worked out, for sure!

Steve Weiser . My mom cleaned house to CCR album. She asked me to decipher the line sweet hitchhiker won't u ride on my face. My mom was so Victorian and I stammered some clarifying the line for her but thinking too, there's no way she knows the meaning. She smiled and said, oh that's what I thought he says. That was the day my 15 yo self saw my mom as a person and a woman. TG I still have her. She's 89 and once in awhile she be a bit bawdy in her understated Victorian way.

This is one of my favourite songs of all time. Such a simple story, a guy coming home from work to a beloved wife or girlfriend, yet that's exactly why it's so relatable. The hauntingly lovely tune makes it unforgettable, not to mention the line "blowing through the jasmine in my mind", which is poetic genius and makes you wonder if the scene is a nostalgic memory, rather than something happening in the moment. The first time I remember hearing it was on telly at my grandmother's house when I was 10. Indeed, it may have been this very performance. Such a fantastic and poetic song. And that delivery and arrangement...what can you say? This got a lot of airplay when I was a kid. Then a year later, I would switch to our local “Soul Music” station and hear the Isley Brothers’ version (my personal favorite!). Great tune no matter who performs it! ✌🏻🎼

Fil, I fell in love with this song when I was about 10 years old and remember my window being open on a spring or summer evening (pre-air conditioning) and thinking of it very specifically. It was magical. As always, thank you for your professionalism and thorough presentation and analysis; but it's your love of and respect for the music that always keeps me completely engaged in your videos. You are a gem! (I'm so glad you brought your guitar into the video. For me - who doesn't play guitar - it was a huge help.)

That was probably one of the best years of my life exclamation.. The song over a 1973 stereo system sitting in the backyard as a 14-year-old boy and future guitar player I love the harmonies and the guitar lick.
