I've played a few map quizzes (the Seterra quizzes) of English counties so I have a moderate familiarity with them, but most Americans have absolutely no idea about the English counties. The more geographically literate Americans would recognize some of the more well known English counties like the Yorkshire counties and the Midlands, but they still wouldn't be able to accurately place them on the map.

If the score is really a straight average between the two subscores (% in and % of), which it seems to be, that means that for Idaho, Kentucky, Maryland, New Hampshire, Tennessee, and Utah, you would have gotten a higher score just by circling the entire United States (which would have given 100% of the state and a couple % in the state, so a little over 50 points).
