I find it truly inspiring to see the Irish and British flags displayed side by side, each flown with such pride during these tours. It’s a powerful symbol of unity, reminding us that even amidst our differences, we can stand together with respect and shared purpose. This simple yet profound image fills me with hope, making the world seem like a more harmonious place. It’s vital that this sense of togetherness, embodied by these flags, transcends beyond moments of ceremony and becomes a principle that guides our everyday interactions. In a world often divided, such symbols remind us of the strength found in unity and mutual respect.

Many thanks from New York, a joy to see my Rugby hero BoD and O Gara as a 20 year old , before I immigrated I saw him many times playing for UCD and Leinster, met him and he was always the same guy you see on Tv in later years, Jason Robinson and Johnny on the same team as BOD just perfect!!this is the best sports documentary ever to me !!!

Unbelievable how much bigger players have become in 20 years. Watched a video of Haskell mucking around with Farrell during a training camp and Farrell is carrying so much more muscle mass than, say, Catt or any of the other centres in this video. And Haskell... he's like a different species. Even "big" guys like Lawro and Johnson... they're about the same size as George North and he plays on the wing/centre. Not making any comparison to skill level or anything, but strength and power, the modern players are goliaths.
@patrickharrison8713 жыл бұрын
I think your comparison is a bit over stated. The baggy kits makes the players look less muscular-there are plenty of players in this games that are as athletic and heavy as modern players. Joe Roff is as big as George North and actually quicker. Danny Grewcock in 2001 was as tall and actually heavier than Maro Itoje (Grewcock was a monstrous athlete). Richard Hill was bigger than 2021 6N player of the tournament Hamish Watson. I think the average weight has certainly gone up but thats just guys chugging more protein powder and lifting weights a lot more, they arent better athletes per se.

This is a series which we should really have won. Australia were a top side around this time but they were there for the taking. I feel if we had Dalaglio and Greenwood for the tests, Hill and Howley for the third, we really should and would have won

Obviously Andy Robinson doesn’t give a damn about player welfare, screaming at the physio to keep players on. Coaches to full of themselves and working the players too hard lost them this tour.

That Lions test team never scored a point in the last 20 minutes of those games. Because they were overtrained and their energy ran out. Then the coaches had the chutzpah to shout at the players that theyre not performing well enough at the end of the matches.
@xpat734 жыл бұрын
Ironically this 2001 Lions team was 10x better than the 1997 Lions. But the 1997 team is remembered for winning (although they were very lucky and played no rugby really in the tests). The 2001 Lions played far better ruby and lost.

Nonsense, one of the best squads the Lions ever assembled lost because the management didn't listen to the players who repeatedly told them that they were overtraining, they were knackered. If the management had listened they would have won 3 zip a belief shared by the conditioning coach Steve Black who told the management but was ignored. The idea that the Lions lost because of a newspaper article is laughable.

Interesting to see the perspective of the UK teams from an Aussie. A lot of emphasis on speeches etc pre game, wonder if it's as big a thing now. Seems almost distracting. Duncan McRae is an absolute grub, these days I think there would be a bigger penalty for what is essentially a straight up assault. I still think on balance Australia deserved to win this given it was our champion team
