A British man was killed and 30 injured when a Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 hit severe turbulence on a flight from London and was forced to make an emergency landing in Bangkok, Thai authorities said in a press conference.
The man, 73, was travelling with his wife.
The general manager of Bangkok airport said: “The wife of the deceased is at the hospital. I am not sure how she is doing. The hospital is checking her.”

Losing altitude by 6000 in a minute is unheard of. That turbulence must be really strong. This is why fastening the seatbelts whenever seated is a must during a flight. We never know when something like this strikes again, pilots have no means to detect clear air turbulence in flight.

I know the old guy died of a heart attack. But never take your seat belt off when flying in an airplane. I'd be interested to know what caused the injuries to the 30 other people. Can only be three things. Flying debris, not being seated or not wearing seat belts.

Smh. I've flown prob over a 100 times im very familiar with turbulence. I always hear people that fly alot saying oh turbulence is no big deal blah blah blah. An most the time their right! But flying from Bogota to Miami one time we hit turbulence so bad I was literally getting right with God. I was sure we were gonna die, and I'm not some dude who gets afraid of everything either. We had to of been dropping 100s of feet at a time that night. Scared me so much I haven't flown since! RIP to this man.

Same, did lots of travelling. Had nightmarish turbulence on a Kingfisher flight once flight from asia to UK.pitch black, pilot said close the blinds..i looked and it was lighting storm. Over an hour, we nosedived so steep with engines screaming, i was counting as we must have dropped so far down low I thought we were gonna crash into the ocean. Then we would just drop and items would fly up from the ground and hit the ceiling, air hostesses were flying around over people, one looked in tears. Ppl were crying l, screaming and praying around me. I 100% thought i was going to die and was coming to terms with it thinking will i see a spilt second of the front of the plane come towards me as we crashed or would it be instant. It was horrendous, i was covered in bruises from be thrown about in my seat up n down side to side. I cant fly anymore, its too much. I get sweaty and on edge thinking about it

Normally turbulence is associated with moisture raising and sinking in a weather system. Clear air turbulence is just raising and sinking air with no moisture. An airplane’s modern weather radar can detect water droplets using Doppler radar to detect weather turbulence, but not clear air turbulence.

I was on a flight over the Alps that was being buffeted by a big thunderstorm happening below when all of a sudden the plane dropped for what felt like 5 seconds then it felt like hitting the ground when in reality it probably fell and hit either an upcurrent or a bit of air no longer dropping quickly. There was an enormous bang, everyone was thrown up in the air, lots landing in the aisles and I looked out the window at the wings which were flapping like a bird's wings. Mega scary and there were just bumps and bruises but yeah, dodgy stuff.

It could have been turbulence, or maybe something else. Passengers describe the plane going along fine, then tilting up suddenly, followed by a rapid drop. This sounds to me like a classic stall situation. The plane tilts up for some reason - either pilot error or technical malfunction. And it loses speed and lift, and then stalls. Then the plane drops quickly until the speed and lift returns, and the pilot can then regain control of the plane. They may have been no turbulence here at all. This early report of turbulence comes from Singapore Air, and maybe it is not accurate. I will wait to see what the investigation tells us.

Sad world we live in that we have to talk about this over and over again. It’s only a story because it’s a major airline. Nobody would care if it was a low tier airline like Royal Jordanian. Wouldn’t attract much traffic to profit from.

There's nothing wrong with Boeing, if a Airbus plane went though IT WOULD OF HAD TURBULENCE! Blame the flight route or the pilots

For people saying the turbulence didn't cause it, 30 more people were injured do to the same turbulence.
