Having spoken to a friend who specialises in body armour after I filmed this it seems the composition of the filler is still classified, hence the varying sources and speculation.

That doesn’t mean anything, you can visually tell the difference between aramid Kevlar type fibres and ballistic nylon. These are Kevlar. I’m also highly dubious of the claim the filler is classified. Why? Newer body armour systems and helmets have all had their V50 ratings made public which is what actually matters when it comes to ballistic protection, so why would a system no longer issued be classified? Not to mention you can just buy them online and cut them open. I’m not sure your source is as expert as he thinks.

Kevlar was used if not developed by Richard Davis of Second Chance body armour. An American company primarily selling body armour to law enforcement agencies. It is very good at stopping bullets but has to be of a different weave to stop knife stabs. It deteriates in performance when it gets wet. That's why it is inside of a plastic bag and then inside of the delivered cover.

I’ve cut open spare fillers on my INIBA’s, CBA’s and ECBA’s. All are Kevlar, the last British body armour system to use ballistic nylon was the early Northern Ireland flak jackets copied from US variants News records also show they are made of Kevlar, when introduced the Secretary of State for Defence made statements to the press announcing they were being issued in which he stated they were Kevlar.

The fact that they are insistent that it be fitted into the cover one way only tells you something about the composition of the armour. It's obviously layered. Probably high density layers of a ceramic/glass cloth, with Kevlar underneath to dissipate the kinetic impact. Which would also explain why the composition is still classified.

I was issued both INIBA and this MK of body armour and personally preferred the INIBA. Although heavier the INIBA offered more protection with the ballistic plates.

Thank you for this well presented video. I accquired such a vest during my tour with the Bundeswehr in Bosnia but mine has additional balistic hard plates inserted in the front Pocket and in an extra back pocketwhich I have too. Is that another Mark or just an Addition of the plates? Greetings from Germany!!

The filler was usually a cut to shape roll mat 😅

With respect, that information isn't publicly available, nor was this armour submitted to the US NiJ for assessment, to the best of my knowledge. The information that was provided in this video may have been boring to you, but clearly not to all viewers. Boring? Maybe.
