In 1979, when I joined the TA we were issued 37 pattern. (We then went and bought our own 58 pattern from Silvermans.) Both the first two types of holder were issued. The sleeve types were usually too tight to remove the bottles so it was easier to just unbuckle the whole thing from the webbing when using it.

When I joined Junior Leaders Regiment Royal Armoured Corps in September 1975 we were issued 37 patterned webbing including the water bottle as shown in your video, however is was all “polished “ with black boot polish and all brass fittings highly polished

Yet again Simon spoils us … thanks Mate….. I too have some of these…..glorious. When you first get one, sometimes you need to soak the Skeleton Carrier so it will stretch on to the bottle and so the fastening can be done up. You allow it to dry on the bottle.

As an American I have found you videos very informative. I have ended up buying a lot of military webbing after watching your videos.

The 37 Pat water bottle was issued initially with the CDN 51 Pat webbing as they didn’t have enough due to either budget or forgetting to order them.

In Guns at Batasi, Richard Attenborough gives an excellent description of the small pack. Sgt Major style.

Had the fabric covered water bottles with I think the skeleton style carrier in the Combined Cadet Force in the 1970s.

I have a 1941 ZL&T carrier that fastens at the top and is more of a British shade of Khaki

Have a water bottle in the skeleton case hanging behind the middle seat in the Landy. Keep it full and I have four gallons in the back as well. Corks are so much quicker and easier than a screw top

I have a sleeve type 1937 Water Bottle carrier. Marked P.S.S. with Government arrow, and a date of 1944. The bottle that came with it, is green enameled. I've not carried water in it. Because of things I've heard. One day I will get it checked out.

ive got a carrier thats canadian, or at least came with a canadian set thats only got 2 female snaps so it cant be snapped closed with a bottle inside. and in any case the straps are too short to snap even if it had a male snap side. is this just some kind of manufacturing error?

Excellent video. Anyone who has been in the infantry will tell you water is a primary concern. Everything else becomes secondary after the first 10 kilometres.
