I recently acquired used Mk. IV riot helmet for the Northern Ireland impression. These helmets are getting rare everyday, so I am glad that I was able to get it on my hand. As far as I know, 3-point strap was adopted on the Mk. V riot helmet.

Glad to hear you've managed to pick one up! So far I haven't seen evidence of the three-point straps in use in the field as it were. I shall keep looking.

Wow never had a close look at those before. Always presumed it was just an add on that clipped on and off the helmet.

Not quite that simple!

I remember walking into a store and there was 100s of these sitting on shelf's on top of each other. As a kid my dad came home from the UDR with a ww2 American and British helmet from some store.in the middle 70s. So it was normal to find old gear packed away . As for these helmets I was locked up in a police cell for 20 minutes as a 11 year old for pinching my 2 Para cousins helmet and taking it to school. My uncle who was RUC locked me up. To teach me not to pinch things. The stories I can tell you about East Belfast Northern Ireland in the middle late 70s early 80s as a kid.

@@RiflemanMoore the thing about Northern Ireland history is. No one talks to ex army or police members that was there. Or the families of the RUC/ UDR because it upsets certain political parties.(Am being nice here.) But as a Protestant kid in Belfast who had family and friends in uniform we welcomed a lot of Para into our lives. And I had bits of army ration packs around the house and Army and RUC gear. And we had my uncle David Brown Sergeant RUC killed by the ira scum.in 82. The same year my cousin and a few other Para friends found themselves in the Falklands. So I know what it's like to lose loved ones. And I know what it's like to have family away at war. So I joined the Irish Guards army cadets at 13 then army at 16. So I been in uniform . I been lucky enough to have used 303/7.62/5.56/9mm etc. And it is hard to watch someone telling people about the kit that I have used or family members have brought home. Without remembering the bad time's and also the funny stories of my life in Belfast. And am sorry if I do chat about stuff. But your videos bring back my family and friends history to Life. Thank you Martin

It's like the liner just digs into the skull
@andrewfox66313 жыл бұрын
The form lining does make the helmet to a mk 5 . Because I was issued a a mk 6 ballistic nylon helmet when I was in the army
@RiflemanMoore3 жыл бұрын
No, it's still officially a Mk 4, just fitted with a 1956 Pattern liner. I plan a video covering this in more detail in the future.

Just wondering I have a black mark 4 with a sock style liner. Does this make it special in any way ?. Also I can tell it’s been repainted because I can still see where the liner has scraped away the black showing the original green

I have one but holes have been drilled in the helmet, and the visor bolted on

During the 80s my dad was in the army and had a Mk4 ? but with a strechy cotton net liner. Would this be Mk5.
@RiflemanMoore3 жыл бұрын
Still the Mk. IV, just fitted with the 1956 Pattern liner.
@harriers62484 жыл бұрын
If the British changed the liner in 1956 why were the older liners used up to the late 60s and I’ve only see Liners dated in the 70s (live in the US btw)
@ROKLonewolf4 жыл бұрын
Common practice in military. They use it because they still have in a stock. Unless it is unusable, they will use it because it saves a money. I have witnessed several canteens that were made in WWII era and it was issued to fellow sailors when I was doing a BCT back in 2014.

In Northern Ireland there was 100s of small army and police stations built in every town and city. We're I live there's about 10 in a few miles. Every one had a store of helmets shields and every time new gear came out the old was packed away. And if something big happen and they had to bring more people in. They used the older gear. Now in Northern Ireland there's all these wee stations closed down or only part-time. And full of old gear.
@RiflemanMoore4 жыл бұрын
Quite simply because a pattern date is not an introduction date. I do have a '60s dated 1956 Pattern liner in my collection. They were certainly in use in the 1960s.
