Very well done! You obviously know a lot about British history.

@@faabul History major at university certainly helped. Also, being a genealogist, I have found several of these kings and queens to be my ancestors. I am probably the millionth in line to the British throne...

@@gillesjoly3811 History major is a huge advantage here. Not even speaking about being in line to the British throne :D

It helped that you put a picture of the relevant monarch up. I wouldn’t have got the coin question right without it.

The first queen of England was Matilda, also called Maud.
@johnconnor7210Ай бұрын
Matilda was William the conquerors queen, not queen off England, as Mary the 1st was in her own right. Monarch means single ruler. Spouses were titled consort. The only exception in English history was mary 2nd and William of orange.
@johannaclarke7222Ай бұрын
@ This is another Matilda, the daughter of Henry 1. Her reign was disputed but she was named as her father’s heir. If you are familiar with the Cadfael stories, that is the period. Later than William the conquerer
@johnconnor7210Ай бұрын
@johannaclarke7222 I know who you mean. However, she was never queen of England.
@johannaclarke7222Ай бұрын
@ I would have to say that is debatable. It depends which history books you read, and which side of the argument their authors were on, but I won’t argue the point. Many things that far back are a bit hazy.
@johnconnor7210Ай бұрын
@johannaclarke7222 With respect. I am not playing tit for tat, I worked in St George's chapel Windsor castle for twelve years. I have read a dozen books specifically on King's and Queens. In that era, women were not eligible to be the monarch. Matilda accepted Steven as king, providing her son henry 2nd would inherit the throne. Henry, the 8ths daughter mary, was the first queen of England in her own right. I love that you're into history so here's a little snippet for you. Question, what date was charles the first executed.

What on earth is the point of asking questions when you put a picture of the relevant monarch beside it?
@lesleymay8006 Жыл бұрын
Richard 2 actually signed a document of abdication admittedly under duress, but he was no longer considered monarch when Henry 4 starved him to death

I agree that it is a bit too fast for this quiz, but we use the same timing for all our quizzes and for others more time would be boring. Still, if you got most of them, you did pretty good job.
@alastairhopkins245 Жыл бұрын
Lady Jane Grey was also excecuted.
@lesleymay8006 Жыл бұрын
True, but although declared queen illegally by her father and father in law, she wasn't crowned or a monarch in any true sense. The question could have been phrased better to acknowledge Charles was tried and executed for crimes against the crown, ironically the first to be judged by "the common man". Though of course none of them were commoners as such
@ianherd569Ай бұрын
Charles the first was a British monarch - not just English!
