It's nice to see how fast you have progressed. Not only your confidence but your knowledge too. Comps are not for me at all, I get to much anxiety. But you seem to enjoy the pressure. And on top of that still mange to give good content for the viewers. I need to get up and get some air time. Work is just so busy right now I don't even have time to fart lol.

Dan, such a useful video to really show the details, the lessons learnt and how it goes first hand. This will be a great resource.

I’m quite fond of the map board cam although a little wider might have been cool. It’s been really good to hear people come back and say they’re now looking to have a go 😍

Excellent! I'm jealous and bummed that either there isn't anything like this in the US, or that I don't know about it. I may have to plan to come to the 2021 BOPC!

There’s a world classic competition so I would have thought there must be a US team? Maybe it’s not as advertised as the huge flying you have out there? This years championships are held at my regular flying site (Wingland Airfield) between 7th-11th July. Because it’s an open competition you’ll easily be able to enter!

@@DanielJonesParamotor Thanks for the suggestion! Looks like the 11th FAI World Paramotor Championships will be April 20-30, 2022 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. wpc2022.com.br/en/ I wish there were something more at the level you're starting at in the US. It looks like the USPPA had this organized through 2016, but then it stopped. www.usppa.org/competition/ I'm not quite up to entering the World Championships quite yet... :-) I'd love something closer to home that is well organized but has a Novice entry level group.

@@ooglek yep Brazil is the next one, pretty sure you have to be in a team for worlds. And seems like there’s opportunity to setup some comps over in the US. The link you sent over looks very similar to what the comps used to be like here. They changed quite a lot from what I understand for safety reasons like taking away the slaloms over land. What about looking into running competitions yourself? Get a team together and see if USPPA will help with funding? Maybe just even approach them on the subject? Would be cool to see it get setup again!

@@DanielJonesParamotor I may try to do that. I'm doing an XC with a few friends to a local Fly In in May, I may just learn how to create the maps and choose the routes, then practice following them myself and try to understand things. Is there a website that covers the A-Z for newbs on this front? What it is, what you can and cannot do, etc? I guess I don't know the term(s) for it, so I don't know what to look for. Maybe time for you to do a intro video not on the mechanics of a lap board but of what it is, what its called, why it is a difficult challenge, general rules, apps that you can NOT look at while in flight but help you score when you are flying independently for practice, etc. Hell, it's a whole series! :-D

Unfortunately there’s not a one stop shop for everything about classic competitions as they’re run slightly different everywhere. I can point you in the direction of the British comps website www.ppgcomps.co.uk you can find the task catalogue on there with what task and how they’re scored. I also did a animated video on each task at the British comp that you might like. The problem I found when researching classic comps was that there wasn’t much of any information about what actually happens there, just some old videos from 4-5 years ago. That’s why I filmed this comp, to showcase a different side of flying. If you haven’t already, I’ve put all my comp prep videos in a playlist that range from side mounting my reserve to get wing speeds. There’s plans in the pipeline to get one of the British national team pilots to co host some how to videos in the future. I’m a little strapped for time this year because of planning and getting ready to fly the length of the UK but I’ll try my best to get them together 👍
