The fun thing about Herr's (the brand that did the buffalo Bleu cheese chips) is that the company offers free tours of its factory in Pennsylvania. Free snacks at the conclusion of the tour, too. Very fun. Also, Hershey's (the Reese's peanut butter cups and the miniatures) does free tours with free samples, too. I just love how the town of Hershey smells like chocolate.

Your reaction to the Nutter Butters reminded me of a history teacher i had in 1977. He was born in the 1930's in the UK. He told us a story of when the family received peanut butter. They had never seen it before. As the story goes, his mom boiled it and they attempted to eat the oily ooze and could not stomach it. They could NOT fathom how Americans could eat this gross stuff. As was the custom then (WW II) they invited an American soldier for dinner. He saw the peanut butter in the cupboard and asked if he could have some. His mom handed it to him, and he promptly made a PB&J sandwich. After that they became a fan of the American Peanut Butter. Just a side story for you two!!

Or the avocado when it arrived in the early 80's, people in the UK (and the continent) were gnawing gingerly on green ones like sick chipmunks. Fair to say they didn't much take to them. It didn't help that the only exporter then was Israel and they picked them too green which meant they also never ripened. Took a decade or two before they understood in the UK they needed to be absolutely ripe then they were delicious. We grew up partially in the colonies where almost everyone with anything of a back garden no matter how small had an avocado tree so were seriously triggered how disgusting everyone found them when we got back to the UK. So much so and amongst other foul British habits we decided to go back to the colonies lol, only setting foot back in the UK for our tertiary education. It took guacamole to popularise them across the US in the early 1990's, they weren't very nice up until then as the "alligator pears" they grew in back gardens in parts of Florida, the sole production up until then were big watery and slightly acrid, not exactly buttery delicious.

Red velvet was invented in the Depression or WW2, when sugar was unaffordable or hard to get. Someone came up with a recipe to sweeten a cake with sugar beets, and it's the beets that give the cake the red color originally, although commercial cakes most likely use sugar and food coloring.

None of that is true. Red Velvet is a British development. The red color was originally a consequence of using non-Dutch processed cocoa which had a red tinge. In the depression, era beats were used to make food dye which enhanced the redness.

The main reason for a lot of American food products emphasizing *real* ingredients is basically because there are an equal or greater amount of food products that are made with artificial flavors or sweeteners. As a result, a distinction needs to be made to reinforce how "real" is "better". Weirdly enough, the real stuff is always healthier (as healthy as most snacks and candy can be anyway) but not always better as far as flavor goes.

The name is Ho-Hos. It's had that name since the 70s. I have a bit of Hostess trivia for you & your viewers. In the 1970s, advertisers started directly marketing snack cakes to kids, by giving them cutesy names. I can't recall what Ho-Hos became, but we had The Twinkie Kid, which was a Twinkie cowboy with hat, which was an animated character in the ads, & was depicted on the box; and Ding-Dongs became King Ding Dong, which after a few years was shortened to King Dong. As you'd expect, these snack cakes were advertised by a Ding Dong with crown & fur-trimmed red cape. And I think he had a scepter. This was back when McDonald's did the same sort of advertising strategy, & showed Ronald McDonald's homeland inhabited by Mayor McCheese, the Hamburgular, & other fanciful characters in costume.

Lmao who remembers when they dissed the shop for the ridiculous prices and now they’re collabing haha I’d so do the same. Bleed em dry as revenge for the crazy prices 😂

Hahaha I saw that. When this came up I was like, "cool! A candy store... wait a minute.."

I was thinking the same! Although they weren't really talking too bad about the shop other than the really high prices. lol

My great grandmother always had Nutter Butters in her cookie jar and when we would visit her, we were only allowed 2. It was such a treat for my sister and I. She has been gone many years but every time I eat Nutter Butter cookies I always remember going to visit her. I think they are amazing too.

Matthew Hickey- I’m sure that’s true for people who eat meat and meat-flavored products. :-) I don’t, so I stick to the non-meat-flavored ones.
