US insularity is staggering even outside the MAGA tent. The vast majority of US citizens will never apply for a passport - and most of those who do, only get as far as Mexico or Canada. I attended a course in Dallas once. The trainer introduced me as from Scotland in England! When I corrected her, the whole class looked around in confusion. What do you mean Scotland's not in England? And these were all graduates. The married cousins who support Trump think that other countries are places that terrorists come from and little else. No wonder that they would have little respect for furriners like Truss, Farage and Johnson.

Travel is very expensive. Only rich people can afford it. I will most likely never travel to the US or Canada. The plane tickets alone from my country to the US would cost about 1 month's salary... and those are just the tickets. It's simply cheaper and more convenient to travel around Europe. A lot of people from my country go to Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus or Turkey because they're just close to us. The US being the size of a continent and travel being so expensive, I get why they wouldn't move around so much.

@octavianpopescu4776 Lots of Americans are well paid. Flights across the Atlantic are not necessarily too expensive and to top it off the USD has been very good against every other country for several years now. The Irish descended population is huge in America and they are very proud of their heritage. You don't see the same enthusiasm from those with English descent. As I said on the short, Farage can't find an audience in the US because he isn't special there. Everything Farage preaches that is controversial here is the standard policy for every serious Republican, let alone those involved with MAGA. As weird as it sounds to us, he's a boring 2016-era Ted Cruz figure to them. He doesn't give up and keeps trying to get on the MAGA gravy train likely because of ego. He wants to be infamous and doesn't like being ignored or seen as the boring one in the room. He's "accomplished" brexit, finally been elected to parliament, but on the first day he realised he and his mates were the joke of the building and it hurts his ego, so he has to go and try to be taken seriously in the US once again to feed his narcissism.

I'm reminded of a book I read not so long ago - British author, I should mention. There was a British intelligence-officer in it, proposing a plan to deceive an American business-magnate - and his entire staff - with a fairly simple ruse. When the one who was supposed to carry it out objected that, *surely* they wouldn't fall for that, the officer assured him that they almost certainly would, simply because "Americans don't believe in the rest of the world. They may *know* that it exists, but deep down inside, they don't *believe* in it." And that certainly seems to be true, doesn't it? And doubly so for the Republicans. Anything that lies outside their borders, as far as they're concerned, isn't *real.* It's just make-believe - irrelevant, except perhaps as a place to go on holidays and leave a huge mess, because why not? It's not like those are *real* people.

Exactly. The British are liberal to the core, self-centred, individualistic and want to have a lot of mad fun while MAGA fanatics are deeply religious, family-centred, patriotic and want to keep their rights to bear arms. If you take the most conservative person in the UK and put them in front of MAGA crowd, they won't understand them at all. Simply two different political cultures. From Europe only Orban can reach the minds and hearts of MAGA extremists. They understand him because he says exactly what he himself and they believe in and he's genuine while Farage & Co aren't and they can sense that and they're right because he doesn't care about any of those MAGA values, he only cares about his own pocket.

It depends what you mean by flop. He still has fans who think he would have won this election and he did make it to the top job he could have ever aspired to in the UK: Prime Minister. But then he had to resign after a series of scandals.

@@torbenjohansen6955 I'm not sure I would call him a flop, because if you think about it, him still having fans means that door is still open for an eventual return and financially, he got what he wanted. He gets paid very well for all those speeches, since as a former Prime Minister of the UK, his market rate is definitely higher. Keep in mind, he's all about the money and comfortable life and he got that, he achieved his aims. Yes, if you operate on the assumption that serving the public good was his aim, he flopped, but he never cared about any of that. His bank account is doing very well.
