I’ve been playing it recently with level 11 Horatio Nelson commander (with HE skill since I use him with my cruisers and other HE British battleships). Honestly, I play it exactly how I play the Giulio Cesare. Super fast maneuverability is her strength and the sonar means she is a very effective destroyer/cruiser hunter. Her health is crazy as well, and honestly when I pay attention to my battle hits, I realize how much the HE actually full penetrates. From 11km+, I use HE because I don’t trust the AP. Between 11km and about 8km, I use AP. From then on in, depends on the ship type. Manual aim, bam easy 102k game

It took me more than a few games to figure that ship out. It can be a good BB at the tier but you really want a APCS commander on it. I find my best games are using the HE at longer range, say 10km or more and AP under that. I find that to be a useful guide to the tech line of British BB’s and Vanguard. Thunderer, Marlbourgh, Hood, and Incomparable are totally different due to tier, HE, etc….

The player H2O in Tokachi is a very friendly and cooperative player. Have played with him as well as against him in countless matches. He is in my friend list too. A good person and a good player. As for Vanguard, I have 67 copper and still collecting more so I can get it. It is meant to be played aggressively and personally I would try to HE spam the enemy BBs and cruisers from range. That breaks their confidence. I have David Beatty sitting idle in the barracks and I have been saving him just for this ship. My entire focus will be on HE spamming and survivability. Let's see how that works out...

I'm honestly a bit confused here due to the dispersion. DeathFromAbove ranks the Vanguard as the most accurate T8 BB.

On paper, I think she might be - according to CIC, she's got 138/342 dispersion, with 2 sigma - but it's still battleship dispersion, and she only has 8 guns. I usually get 5 hits on target, which would be about average for 9 guns, so you could say that the improved dispersion acts like an extra turret. What drags it down for me is the meh AP penetration, and sustain at range. She's not really bad, but not outstanding in dealing damage unless she fights at close range, where survivability becomes an issue.

Hi Terry, I disagree with you on this one 😢 Vanguard is excellent. Fantastic maneuverability, solid gun performance (esp with apcs), very good dispersion, great concealment, high hp pool. It is incredibly versatile and is one of my go to t8 bbs and you know I have a lot of games in a lot of BBs. (Save for the Atlantico which I refuse to play out of principal). I have 53 games in Vanguard. 81 wr, dr 9.86, avg dam 55k, mvp of 22. I know the avg dam is low, but a far few of the games were played quite a while ago. Just played a few games in it the other day and it was very pleasant. Having more AA is a nice perk as well. You are right about the sonar though. I too would rather have dfaa. Thanks for the video!

I bought the vanguard my take away its a citial monster. This ship is a good at sinking cruisers and destroyers. You will start many fires and 1 in 10 battles probably get the "wither" battle metal. Its downsides are that dreadnought line ships can and will sink you(Kansas and Minnesota specifically) Bismarcks and Fredrich de Grobs are somewhat easy. Any tier 7 ship though will sink, accept for colorados those suck.

I disagree with this ship. I run dispersion and double rudder. I do manually aim at close range… but I do that on every BB/CA/CC. I run a reg commander with HC on it. I play this ship constantly moving(if able) if I have to be static I try to stay at half speed and do a lot of turning. As for shell type, I run AP exclusively unless DD then HE. Now for me it’s a great ship, that being said there’s a thing for personal preferences and play styles. I like being highly aggressive, this ship works for my personal play style.

I generally play between reckless and suicidal in terms of aggressive style, but the T6 guns just don't work for me. The AP needs 8km or so to be effective, unless you're weak point targeting. The deck armour is pitiful, and the dps isn't there from lack of RR. I'm ok with the HP tank build, but otherwise, I'm struggling to make an impact. Now it's not a bad ship - Amagi would be worse for sure, but with a premium that costs a significant amount of money or shipyard resources, I need a unique value. Let's take the Richie, for example. 8 guns, same calibre, and the damage output is probably not too far off, but - the turret arrangement allows for some really interesting positioning. For Vanguard, the gimmick, if you want, is the manoeuvrability, but besides that, she's got mediocre AP, forgettable secondaries, poor armour. The sonar is nice if you need to part-time as a CA, but otherwise not really useful, unlike in something like Bismarck, who can use it offensively (i.e. to avoid torpedoes in pushes). Not a bad ship, but not outstanding for her tier. I might be biased by my general dislike for supercruisers, and the fact that being a CC tends to draw a larger-than-usual amount of fire - which might contribute to me enjoying Hood more on my personal account.

And more importantly what do i have to do to level up to level 6 my ships ( for example the American destroyers because i am stuck at level 3 ) ? I need to get wins or destroy ships or something like that? Your information will be really helpful!

You need to earn the required amount of points, for that you need to deal dmg + support your team and win

mate you do not need to reach lvl 6 on any ship ....you get more than enough points by reaching lvl3 on 20 different ship to reach lvl 6 you need a very big game ....lots of caps , lots of kills . lots of damage its nice but not necessary

What level you need to get to on each line depends on how many lines you have open. I can probably do it with lvl 1 on each class, others may need 6 on each class

There is only 4 British battleships that i want and i got 2 of them. The 4 are warspite, hood, repluse, and incomparable and i got the hood and repluse.

Because it’s a great ship. It has a rudder shift time of 7s. The guns aren’t great but still good and accurate AF. This is a maneuvering ship. I bought it this round, and got the camo on it. I went dispersion and double rudder and play it moving constantly. I highly recommend the ship.

Appreciate for review but fast bb is really useful just like iowa with that much speed we didn't need to tank anything but in the second game its very much needed to tank so its ok But i do like fast bb

Speed is great (one reason I love the Richie, she can outrun cruisers with the engine boost up). But at the end of the day, a battleship needs firepower and the capability to soak up some damage for the team. I know a lot of people love the Vanguard, but for me, she just doesn't work well enough. Not bad, but not outstanding, either.

I'm not a fan of Brutish battleships but I can tell you Vanguard is much better than Hood in their respective tiers the biggest difference between them is the armor, Vanguard gets a very weak deck armor but one of the best belt armor of tier 8. If you use your maneuverability to bait people into shoot your belt armor specially given that she is quite slim for a Battleship. You can tank a crap ton of damage with her unlike Hood that even 150 mm shells from German secondaries can citadel her. If played correctly Vanguard can tank more than things like Kansas, Bismarck or Roma. And don't forget this comes from a person who despises Brutish battleships as much as you.

Well done! Try using the AP at close range, especially with manual aim. You would have killed me easily, Vanguard has only 70mm deck plating

You're sitting still man. Vanguard isn't a ship that you sit still and tank in. You have to keep moving and take advantage of your maneuverability

That entirely depends on the situation. Vanguard's main guns are mostly ineffective at ranges beyond 8km or so. Yes, if the tactical situation allows it, you can sail around trying to dodge shells, which in a battleship, even a manoeuvrable one like this, isn't easy at the ranges you're effective with AP. HE spam is kinda meh in this ship, due to the low number of guns and lack of rapid reload. If you're referring to the second battle, that was to highlight two things : even with the AA buffs, she's not going to stand against a CV on her own, but will shoot down a significant number of planes, making her useful in slowing down the carrier. Second, with an HP tank setup, she can sustain damage through a battle despite the average-to-weak armour. Tokachi & me have held down Amagi, Maya, Gneisenau and Yorck while under CV focus, and maintained cap control. That's what the HP tank build is for. With the regular build, this wouldn't have been possible.

Terry you are not using this ship right. If u wanna stay still the most effective position in this ship is showing ass position. Your manuverbility will allow you to doge 20-30% shells, 30-60% will be ricochet and the rest will may be either full or semi. This is thi only position that has allow me to survive longer. Rather than this ship requires constant moving. Try detection build rather than steering gear. That will be more effective. This ship is kind a jack of all trades now. Guns - 7/10 (U will be able to get some solid shots + Module getting damaged. My highest module damage no. Is 20 and that too in this ship) Precision - 6-7/10 AA - 7/10 Manuverbility - 10/10 (best in the game for a BB) What else do u need this thing can be a pain in the ass for other player who this that they can easily kill vangaurd. Try ass position by constantly moving forward and backward. They will be frustrated. And yeah ofcourse DD mosquito. They don't know what they are dealing. Power of a BB with cruiser abilities.

he stayed alive the entire battle or until the very end. mitigating damage could be done multiple ways with the sole purpose being to not get sunk, which he did. that’s not the matter here, but how the ship does the rest

I wouldn’t call her irrelevant historically, she wasn’t in the war. Her place in history is as the last battleship built, and the death of the battleship. Sure an Iowa(the pinnacle of BB design IMO) was the last in service, but were built several years prior to vanguard and the British were long past their prime at the time.

I think age is starting to catch up to this ship, she’s been here since before the Black Bismarck, and there a lot of ships that can do things better than she can, except turn. This isn’t a battleship or a battlecrusier…this is a super cruiser, like a Stalingrad or Puerto Rico. Play at range, but be mobile

Which might be a contributing factor to my dislike... classifying her as a supercruiser actually makes a lot of sense, and I'm not a fan of that class of ship. She's not bad, but ... mediocre imo. And if you have this many premiums out there, some of which offer something unique, or are still strong, then mediocre can be fine for a free ship, but one for purchase needs to stand out a bit to be interesting.
