Amazing how 2005 could, in many ways, so easily be 1985!

I don’t know what’s better, seeing the slam door units or hearing the original sound of the 455’s

If only I had been born a decade earlier so I could have experienced these kind of sights first-hand. I remember my first ever journey with SWT being on a 159 from Waterloo to Axminster in 2002 (running with a 170 as far as Salisbury). My first train journey from my home in Dorset up to London was in 2013 on a 444... which means sadly I never got to experience a trip all the way up to London on a slammer or a 442 on the South Western Main Line. However I shall always cherish the childhood memories I have from a time when slammers and 442's were commonplace at my local station. Thank you for sharing this wonderful, nostalgic content!

I can remember my first trip to Clapham Junction in 1980, it blew me away, my first time to see an 09, 33 and 73! 313's looked new at King Cross. Great days and lots of good memories - cheers mate.

Thanks Youngie..... The 313s were still quite fresh but had arrived in 1976. I remember riding on them on the Moorgate-Finsbury Park line which was allowed on an LT Go-As-You-Please ticket!

Love the fact that at 2:18 the livery is still the same to this day, just with minor tweaks. Love your channel. It's amazing

wow, isn't this a nostalgia trip! I was a child living in teddington at the time this was taken but I remember seeing the early SWT livery. I'm now some 24 years old living up north in Lincolnshire, much removed from the third rail but I still firmly remember the red, blue, and orange. Alas I don't think I ever saw a slam door unit, or simply didn't notice them.

The SWT livery on the old stock was an ammendment to NSE livery to a large degree, to avaoid repainting them when they were due replacement. Very reliable stock, nothing too electrical to go wrong!

Haven't seen this one before I don't think. CIGs looked pretty good in Southern livery if you ask me.

No same here, too bright and showed the dirt too easily. I liked the SWT colours though, although i still think NSE was one of BR's best liveries.....

Looking at the front of the 3rd rail unit at 9:00 and wondering why it has overhead warning flashes? It's a 3rd rail unit, surely it should have warnings about the 3rd rail?😊

That was the standard warning put on all BR rolling stock.....

A few did stay in NSE until the end. There was a VEP unit that went to the Siemens Wildenrath test track that was in NSE up until withdrawal.
