British Railways 2022-Hatfield, Fambridge, Southminster & Wickford

It's March 2022 and i'm off to Southminster to visit a friend. When i first went there slam door class 312's were still running, and in the early 1990s i drove class 321's on the branch. They are still running at times but this day was a Saturady and new class 720 EMU's were in use. The vid starts at Hatfield with a class 700 & IEP storming through followed by a GBRf 66 on a ballast working before we head to Essex, where we see the new class 720's at work at Wickford and on the Southminster branch. Nice to see you've covered my line, I live not far from Southminster and I'm a regular user. I remember when First Great Eastern & ONE used to put 315's on the diagrams. Once again ANOTHER great video!!

Thank you..... I do remember 312s on the branch but since around 1990 it was solid 321s, i have used the branch to visit a mate in Southminster quite a lot of the years.....

Nice video mate, I will miss the 321s when they eventually go but I will always have a special place for 720s as I was the first controller to allocate 720s into service on the GE and WA when I was at GA.

I liked the 321s, very nice units to drive.... i could actually sit at the drivers desk properly unlike the 315s were my legs were akimbo! But that was thanks to a Traction Inspector called Roy Wood, who was also on the tall side.....

Just think, a new born baby or toddler now, in 40 or so years time will be looking at these units with the same fondness, we are with the B.R. built units.

I am a fan of the 321 but accept their days are numbered now 🙁 Mind you, I like the 720 units, the seats are an improvement on the 387/700/07/17 "ironing board" arse parks

This is a really good video, it’s really quite jarring having these new trains given how used to Class 321s I have become. They almost look out of place! Still, it’s nice for some investment to be made.

Whatever about services to Southminster, the 720 units are grossly inadequate for Clacton and Ipswich.

I'm not a fan of the new trains . Miss the old network south east liveries and the slam door trains .
