That’s bullocks, brother! KZbin part of the Deciders? 😂 “Some of those that work forces” (police, government agencies supposedly protecting us) “are the same that burn crosses” (referencing KKK assholes burning crosses as an overarching symbol for groups oppressing and killing for hate or control). Brilliant lyricism.

They played a live BBC Sessions set and the producers at BBC said they had to censor the "fuck you, I won't do what you tell me." The singer agreed, and when that part comes up, he cranks it up to 11!! One of the greatest moments in live recording history. Highly recommend

That's like JIM MORRISON on the Ed Sullivan show, performing "LIGHT MY FIRE" with the DOORS. The show producers told him NOT to sing the line " Girl we couldn't get much HIGHER". ( they freaked out over the reference to getting high on weed). So they do the song....and he lunges towards the camera and deliberately did the line AS WRITTEN ❗🎵 . Yells "HIGHER". They were banned from ever coming back on the Ed Sullivan show. Bravo Jim Bravo ❗

The British public once bought this song en masse during the christmas period to make sure that the X Factor winner wouldn't get Christmas number 1 as they always did. They actually got it and the radio had to keep playing this song. Rage did a free thank you gig in the UK not long afterwards.

the forces/crosses line references the Ku Klux Klan or KKK's burning of crosses and that some of those that work forces (police forces/armed forces) are the cross-burning kind of racists. If Rage are known for anything, it's being hardcore activists and their music is a call to action. It's got that funky rhythm section and innovative guitar playing along with angry vocals that are honestly quite educational as they reference a LOT of stuff the powers that be have swept under the rug

Yes, however, it refers it all the needless violence and evil Police in America have committed against Black people. The song's relevance today is almost gut wrenching. There isn't a day that goes by without Police in America committing violence against human beings for having the "audacity" of being Black.

Gives me so many chills every time I see this! We went to a Suicidal Tendencies gig back in 93 I guess and the support was this absolutely unknown band. They haven't released their debut album yet and so it happened that people were still talking and drinking while they already had started to play. But then more and more of us people realised that something else was going on on stage. There was a certain energy developing in the room and after a while everybody started joining the mood and tension was rising until the hall nearly exploded. This was so special, everyone went crazy and we even didn't know one song! One month later the debut album landed, the success was unbelievable and half a year later they were back in town headlining. We decided spontaneously to go but when we arrived there was already a line that was 1km! long in front of the venue 😮 nuts! I've never seen a rise of a band comparable to Rage against the Machine..... Legends! No Party in 1993 without Ratm and moshpits

Never throw out the baby with the bathwater. One must be able to look at the forest from amongst the trees. Those with evil hearts will justify their evil actions with whatever is convenient and easily manipulated. Respect for those who are on the front lines running into the fray to serve and protect those in their community. Our honest police officers, emergency crews, firefighters, and most of our great American citizens who selflessly serve their neighbors. Our freedoms ain't free and one mustn't be passive about the adversaries in their lives and their democratic republic country (the US) in particular since this is an American artist we're listening to.

Love seeing this again so I don't mind! Watching you is always great. I feel a bit attacked personally when you continued to specify that this was 30 years ago LMAO 😂 I don't feel I needed that bit of information pointed out, I already feel old enough lol But you're right, the fact that it's still relevant today is just crazy. Just proves that the people(or the type of people) that have always been in control, still are. It's obvious that's getting us nowhere. I don't know a lot about the government where you are but here in America it constantly amazes me. People divided, fighting and picking sides. Constant back and forth between Republicans and Democrats. And all the while most people fall right into it, eating that shit up, never realizing what's right in front of them. In front of all of us. Democrat or republican it doesn't matter, it's the entire government that's corrupt. Who's President? To an extent, that doesn't matter either. He's the fall guy, the one to blame for everything done by the ones pulling the strings behind the curtain. The entire system is flawed and as long as people fall for it and stay divided things will never change. Just the same cycle of ignorance. In the immortal words of The Doors and Pink Floyd "The time to hesitate is through"- The Doors "Together we stand, divided we fall."-Pink Floyd

I was there. 18 years old, 1993 Lollapalooza (ok, I'm not sure if it was this specific show but it was this tour). The energy of the crowd was *insane*.

Most of what you think is "production" with Tool isn't in many instances. Every single member of the band has a masters in music and much more formal training before and after. They're not a bunch of guys who started out as some lame garage band. They're the most technically sound band in music history. And that's not even remotely debatable!!!

The pedals? Everything. You want an effect, you buy a pedal. (Or a digital super pedal now) Like a kind of analogic sound workstation.

went to my first ever festival last year, I am ND so was super nervous but people were to plight and helpful. Last year was only a single day but this year I went for 3 whole days and it was amazing but I was also completely smashed afterwards. Both physically for moshing, dancing and walking for hours and psychologically for the overstimulation but it was worth it and def going next year. Might even go as volounteer.

Love your reactions to rock/metal. 🤩 It's fun to see you react for the first time to music I grew up with. - Brings back that feeling of discovering these groups for the first time.. ✨ I will Highly recommend "Mustasch" with these songs: 1) "Thank you for the demon" 2) "Bring me everyone" (My fav 😇.) 3) "Feared and hated" (I have them in this order on my pl but didn't se their live rec so idk the best forum.) But if you like Mustasch, I'd be happy to recommend some other cool & 'lesser known' groups like them... ✨🐈

"Some of those that work forces (police) are the same that burn crosses (KKK)." In the US, the beginnings of the state policing industry had very close ties to the KKK, especially in the South, some were in the KKK or were leaders. The systemic racism in the US police system, endemic in the harsher treatment, profiling, illegal searches, police brutality (and worse), and poorer protection services towards minorities--Black, Brown, Central and South American immigrants, Native Americans and Indigenous Peoples, and recently Asians as well is what this song is about. During and just before the Jim Crow era, the police--KKK ties were extremely strong and there were multiple cities and towns in America that were mainly prosperous Black towns. These were looted and burned to the ground by jealous, racist White citizens. In many of these violent occurrences the local and state police forces did not stop the violence, they joined and helped the White citizens and were violent against the Black citizens. This is just one example.--police brutality against migrant workers, Native Americans on reservations in the past, and many other instances all stemming from poisonous historical ties to racism.
