@@TeddyGreyOS If you look at the drum kits in music videos, it’s the big round ones that are on their side on the ground in front of the drummer. There is a pedal for each foot, and they use both feet to hit those drums. Rock bands and such tend to have one, but harder rock and metal will have two of those drums What’s even more insane is seeing drummers use both hands and both feet all at the same time. Literally mid blowing to use all limbs differently but cohesively

I’m gonna recommend this one again. you should watch the video of Danny Carey performing Pneuma. This is a video which focuses only on the drummer for the band Tool as they perform live. You hear the whole song, but specifically watch the complex drumming and see how much goes into the songs. BTW, Tool is a band that can get very complex with musicality, so he uses a much more complex kit. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKTWhn-EfLiNf6Mfeature=shared …. I honestly don’t know if you will enjoy the band, but totally impressive just to watch him.

If you’d like to hear him flex the emotional side of his vocals more, songs like “Seize The Day”, “So Far Away”, “Strength Of The World” (if you’re up for a long song), “Buried Alive”, “Save Me”, “Not Ready to Die”…there are quite a few. “Nightmare” lyrically is fantastic, but it was never meant to be about overpowering vocals. M. Shadows is a unique vocalist that I really enjoy and over time he’s really developed a sound for himself. Avenged Sevenfold as a whole, though, is known mostly for that quality instrumental style they’ve created for themselves. And for your own sake please don’t dive into “A Little Piece of Heaven” before you’ve listened to an album’s worth of songs at LEAST. I always hate when people try to suggest it because they just want people to listen for that shock factor and it has turned people away from listening to A7X without knowing proper context. And people tend to suggest it a lot without giving context.

Ffs if u tell people to avoid the “shock factor” then they miss a big part of that song. its still avenged sevenfold just different some people will like it some people won’t. just warn people it’s not like the rest, be vague and allow them to get a full experience. what u just did there is the equivalent to forcefully showing someone a trailer to a movie some people don’t like trailers as it spoils part of the film experience

I love when Teddy finds out how complex the drums are. The part where he asks how they get it so fast, that isn't the hands, it is the feet of the drummer. That is the double bass. The drum part to this song was written by the drummer that passed away and the song is about him. They had to bring in one of the best drummers in the world to be able to play the parts that were written by the Rev (drummer that passed away).

Part of that is because he destroyed his vocal chords early in their career and went to Axl Rose's vocal coach to get his voice back. His vocals were way more aggressive on the first couple albums, but he was doing it wrong and messed his voice up.

The name avenged sevenfold is actually from the Bible. Many of their songs are based on it too, like the story of Cain and Abel, the city of Babylon, etc. But even deathcore bands often sing of things like this, of recognizing the destruction we cause and the result of morality or mortality and soul and such. You would be surprised just how many bands, from softer rock down to deathcore talk about the Bible, faith, being a good person, and all sorts of things like that. Most bands include “satanic” imagery as a shock factor, or even warning against that kind of path. But those who don’t actually listen to the lyrics or just look at images will write it off as being pro satan ( which does exist too). But many times also, it’s not about worshiping Satan to cause pain and suffering, but what he represents, which is the pursuit of knowledge, and taking agency upon yourself for your own actions, choices and fate. Versus being good simply because there is an invisible man who will judge you, so you’re being good out of fear instead, not necessarily because it’s the right thing to do.

There won't be much to explain about nightmare, because the man who wrote it passed away in 2009. Jimmy wrote the majority of the album and had finished his last song originally titles "Death" 3 days before he had an accidental overdose of prescription drugs and alcohol. Sevenfold later changed the title of Death to "Fiction" after their fallen brother. The drummer behind the studio release of the nightmare album is dream theatres former drummer Mike Portnoy, a man who Jimmy Idolised and was inspired by. You can hear this inspiration in a song from the City of Evil album titled "Beast and the harlot". There's a lot of theory of why Jimmy died with some saying it was a suicide attempt, but the band confirmed that jimmy was just trying to have a good time, he was the party animal who could and would start a party out of nothing. In order to fully understand the reason and story for nightmare, we'd have to go back to 2009, when jimmy was still alive. In terms of the mastery behind the drumming in the solo, Mike does a simple quadruplet on the double kick drum which can be achieved fairly easily.

A lot of metal lyrically deals, with loss, depression, morality, love, seizing the day, etc. There are bands like Brojob and We Butter the Bread with Butter, that lean more into having a laugh with the subject matter of their music. One of WBTBWB's biggest songs is called "20km/h" and it's an entire metal song about riding a scooter and how cool it is (in German). There's every flavor of metal out there, and you'll probably never get bored of exploring new sub-genres.

Hey Teddy! I am 100% a music nerd, I listen to anything that’s good, period. I’ve been watching reaction videos and I have to say, “I ENJOY YOUR CHANNEL THE MOST “. Some other channels are very technical, which is great, but not very emotional, some others are very much about the vocals, or the music, or arraignment and some others are just about what they feel without knowing much about the technical aspect. Your channel is the perfect balance between music, lyrics, vocals and emotional reactions, from getting super excited and hyped to crying in a couple of them because the lyrics got you…. Extremely entertaining and fun to watch, thanks for the work you are putting out there man! That being said, you need to check out a couple of the newer bands that are doing an extremely amazing job, “Sleeptoken” and “Porcupine Tree” This one is a must: the song Sober by Tool, technically one of the best bands in history. It's a beautiful love song/love story, well, in a way... It's also super twisted and dark lol and that goes for both lyrics and visuals which go hand in hand on this one. There are lots more too, here's a starter list. Loved the reason but i think there are others you'll enjoy way more. The "lack of emotion" is probably due to the fact their drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan passed away during the recording process. They also mixed the vocals on this song (as the first single on the album) to be more haunting. The whole video is a tribute to the Rev, hence the shot of the drumkit at the end.

The album that this song was on was a collaboration with Mike Portnoy, who's the drummer of Dream Theater. A lot of people will disagree, but as a lifelong Avenged Sevenfold fan and someone who appreciates storytelling and lyrical depth, I highly recommend you check out their newest album, Life is But a Dream…. One song that I think would blow you away with the lyricism (and instrumentals for that matter) is Cosmic. First off, I love your take on these videos/songs. I hope you fully enjoy your journey through the Metal/Rock genres and sub-genres. That said, A7X aka Avenged Sevenfold is somewhere between Heavy Metal, Progressive Metal and Alternative Metal, in my opinion. As far as the "Satanic" thoughts on rock and metal, that really just comes from older Christians not understanding it. While the saying of "Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n' Roll" is a common saying, a lot of people who are/were unfamiliar with the genres just hear screaming or see the visuals of the bands appearance or music videos and immediately hate on it thinking its of the Devil. I am sure I even heard you in one of your first metal reactions, comment and say something about thinking metal was just going to be all screaming and no real lyricism or the vocals not really going to be a thing. I feel that it is just a misunderstanding of the music from others too afraid to go out of their own comfort zone and experience new music/ideas. Seeing as you are liking metal, being a rap fan, it goes to show that giving something a chance might be worth it. Suggestion: Electric Callboy Tekkno Train/Pump It/Mindreader. Could be fun. Best wishes for you and your channel, Mate!

With people like you, the rap/trap fans have a bridge into metal. I predict within the next ten years, metal is going to take a very popular turn so much so that it will actually become just as popular or if not more than rap.

I saw them in concert in Chicago. They put on a good show and on this song they had a guy that seemed to hang himself from the stage lights just prior to the strong 'Nightmare' start of the song. The guitarists are great too.

Please listen to "so far away", it is a tribute song to the Rev, their drummer, who sadly passed away and you can tell how emotional the whole band is throughout the song and video.

The change in emotion is due to the change of perspective, there are several characters within the song, each verse telling a different view of the same scenario, be it the narrator, the sinner, or the dark one

The drummer on this particular track is Mike Portnoy from dream theatre (progressive metal). This album was recorded after the bands drummer and childhood friend Jimmy “the rev” Sullivan had passed away. They brought in Mike after he left dream theatre to record some songs on the nightmare album while they searched for a replacement drummer and Mike has recently returned to dream Theatre. In the solo section he is actually playing double bass with his feet which is something he is known for and is common in a lot of rock and metal music.

Actually as a hip hop fan, you might find a song like Brompton Cocktail from Avenged Sevenfold interesting. I wouldn't necessarily say Shadows raps in the song but they were playing with different traditional percussion instruments and trying to drive a lil influence from hip hop and reggae sonically. It sounds really polarizing explaining it but when/if you hear it, it will make sense. I think others have made great picks for songs that really flex his vocal talent. But personally as a fan of the band I don't recommend their life is but a dream album or the song A Little Piece of Heaven unless you have really taken a deeper dive. They are very polarizing pieces of material to anyone not up to speed on Avenged Sevenfold.

All time favorite band for me, if you end up falling in love with them, you have a great road ahead of banger after banger after banger on every album after 7th trumpet I'd say you'd probably be able to appreciate, especially due to their lyrical content, aswell as their well known dual-guitar sound, very avenged once you hear it ín a couple songs. Ill be here for any and every future song you cover of theirs. Youre a dope dude and appreciate these breakdowns.

Why "after StST"? It's got great songs on it too. The older albums are some of my favourite (not that the new ones aren't good)
@Spot-t
@Spot-t 10 ай бұрын
Hey man, by that I meant that from my journey with the band, I had a harder time getting into StST compared to all the other albums because its production quality, and the abit rough around the edges in general, OFC its the 1st album, but I love love love it still dont misunderstand. I could only REALLY appreciate StST personally after already falling in love with the band through CoE and Waking the Fallen, because even tho I will defend tracks like Warmness to my death, because its so raw and good vocally from matt. I hold that track so dear but dont think I would get the same emotional reaction hearing it if I hadnt already appreciated where they've ended up in their current level of musical prowess I suppose in general. sorry rambling, its fun talking about and I love that you challenge me on this, its honestly just easier to get into a band listening to their most "accessible" songs, like anything off nightmare or httk, even selfitled, all those albums were imo the peak like AVENGED sound quality to just dig through those albums and fall more and more in love with them. THEN after a couple albums, I just feel StST can be better appreciated, for the actual ambition it had, and how different sounding it is (in a good way). Sorry for text wall here, Idk if you know what i mean? Accessibility and ease of listening kinda reasons, compared to the "mainstream tracks" that probably get you to initally even gain an interest, if youre very new to A7X. wont wall you next msg, just dont wanna discourage you from responding to this in whatever way lol, just curious if u know what i meant by that- cus I love StST, ofc, its just maybe the odd one out in terms of it sounding alot different than they end up sounding. love to u my man, feel free to tell me one of ur takes in turn, always always just happy to talk to a7x fans, got none local heh
@102ndsmirnov7
@102ndsmirnov7 10 ай бұрын
Ye, I know what you mean. Generally when getting into a band you have to listen to their newer stuff which is also generally more accessible and then you move backwards towards their older stuff and are really able to appreciate it. I think I first discovered A7X with "A Little Piece of Heaven" funnily enough and from there I was hooked. The strange thing about A7X is that their newest albums are also extremely experimental and rather hard to get into. CoE, Nightmare and Self-Titled are probably the best representative albums. I really can't choose a favourite album personally. Nightmare, CoE, WtF, Self-Titled, StST and The Stage all have incredible songs on them and are all incredible albums. My favourite songs are also some of their more underrated ones. "Save Me", "Sidewinder", "And All Things Will End" and the "I Won't See You Tonight" songs are all masterpieces just to name some. (Also you should really give a listen to The Rev's band Pinkly Smooth. It's just so good.)@@Spot-t

man, cant really believe I had never heard of Pinkly Smooth, I will check that out and thanks for the chat man, can't really say that I disagree anything you told me there hehe. I have yet to choose a favorite either, I feel it changes with my mood/time what album I listen to most, lately it WtF actually, mostly cus of that angsty F it all vibe it has. Also I wont see you tonight yes, want to envoke any emotion in me, put that sh** on. :P @@102ndsmirnov7

11:29 those are double kick drums right there. It’s way easier with the hands since drummers rely on the bounce of their sticks, it sounds like 4 in that quick session. Granted this is the feet so similar concept but still different. Also, I forget if the song Fiction was recorded after the recording of the song Nightmare but if not (and I’m pretty sure it was first) then the drummer is Mike Portnoy who’s a legendary drummer the Rev took influence off of. Fiction was the Revs final song before he passed, hence how my logic functioned earlier.

So, the way they cut the drums is called a "noise gate". Basically, any noise under a certain volume is muted. Super common production trick for tight sounding drums and rhythm guitars in metal.
