For those of us who grew up in the Cold War, the concept that younger people have no idea about any of this really kind of blows our minds, because it was the central fact and the central reality for both of us and our parents, and it was essentially how the world was organized for a couple of generations, and so it's just weird to us that all of the stuff surrounding it is just sort of been forgotten. For my parents in the US, having drills where you hid under your desk (as if that would help you if there was a nuclear exchange) were common everyday events, like now kids have earthquake or tornado drills. People had bomb shelters in their yards & we're terrified to for instance to listen to music that had a socialist message because they might get arrested for it. Then there were the Beatles and other acts arguing against these Draconian measures, which was a lot of what the sixties was about, but still, even when I was a kid in the 80s my dad build a bomb shelter behind our house in the middle of nowhere in the countryside, because for some reason that was supposed to be a prudent measure (as if anybody would care where we were at, only cities would really be targets, but whatever). Anyway, it's just weird.

Exactly all the gen Z woke liberal leftists pushing for a communist form of government don't have a clue what they're talking about.

6:54 In fact, the existence of the atomic bomb is the only thing that saved the world from World War III, and its invention and possession by both sides DEFINITELY worked towards peace. Many wars broke out during the Cold War, but thanks to the existence of atomic bombs, there has not been a single war between the superpowers since World War II because since both sides have such powerful weapons, no one in their right mind would dare to start a world war.

When you watch the Fallen of WW2 video, there is a better explanation, but there is a lot of reasons to think that nukes have made wars less frequent, at least big ones, since there is such fear of things getting out of control and nukes being used. Smaller wars and proxy wars are a more complicated element of the question, but even those appear to be getting less frequent, or at least they were up until a few years ago.

@@L3WGReacts I thought about commenting a lot more on this one, since I have studied many aspects of the Cold War, and can spot all the things that Oversimplified left out or got wrong on this one...but I won't. Unfortunately, YT is not a great place for learning about the basics of the Cold War, all the videos seem to either leave very important events out or have clear biases in the information they present, or both....I have not found a good and short video summarizing the Cold War. There are some really good longer videos that go into much more detail on the Cold War, but they are a bit more like TedTalks than the kind of animated edutainment that Oversimplified provides. ✌

Versailles kept us on gold , it went to the dollar at Breton woods . Ww2 But still zero sum , which keeps it finite . While this unfortunately makes. Socialism into fsscism or communism . It’s a bio product of zero sum debt system . The debt system holds power in power and maintains rich and poor . It’s global not just in America . But the dollar is the global standard . Socialism is a system with more people than money so they must use their money. Practically. To keep people alive . In America they use zero sum to keep people working and sick. Needing them to survive . It’s unstable. Because it’s finite . And the population is growing not getting smaller . It breeds sociopathy . Keynes gave us the answer in 1919 at Versailles . I wish you’d go find out what it was he wanted to do but the robber barons. Refused .
