This was so very helpful! I’m considering both but wasn’t sure about the differences. I’m actually just wanting a pet and garden buddy. My furbaby girl passed 8/11/23 due to kidney disease. She was 13 years old (deaf past 2-1-2 years and was starting down the road with glaucoma). We started giving her weekly IV fluids & anti nausea medication in April but she stopped eating in August and we knew it was time. We rescued her 5 years ago after my previous furbaby passed at 19 years old. Saying goodbye to my precious kitties has been one of the hardest experiences in my life. I have always adored Smoothie (golden British longhair w/emerald eyes) and told myself that when the time came to adopt another cat, a British longhair female would be my next cat. But! I discovered Scottish Straight long haired yesterday and now I’m torn! You have made it much easier for me now that I know the differences between the two. Thank you again!

A week ago I had never heard of a Scottish Straight breed. Now I have bought a Scottish Straight Kitty and I have had him for four days. He is very playful and smart. At 8 months old, he is very large compared to most male cats his age. He is very heavy but thin as he is still so young and is still growing and not filled out yet. He is quite aloof and likes to be in the highest place in every room he is in. He loves to climb and also runs very fast from one end of the house to the other. He does not meow and does not like to be picked up or held on my lap, though he does love to be near me and follows me from room to room when he is not sleeping. On the first day he found he could jump up to the top of my high China Cabinet and he claimed that as his place... I had to empty the top so he has room to lay full-out there. He sleeps there for hours at a time now. He is totally non-aggressive and has a sweet disposition. He is extremely beautiful in tones of greys with copper eyes. I really love him but would have liked a kitty that wanted to be on my lap and would enjoy being held... Charlie is just not that way... I still think I got the right kitty though after looking for one for five years.

I am freaking a little right now: I am getting a Scottish Straight kitten at the end of February. My question is: if kitty's parents are a Scottish Fold and a Scottish Straight cat and my kitty has straight ears, is my kitty safe from painful disease? What do you think? Or is there still a chance to get that disease and if yes, what %? Can you tell? Thanks! Cause you said that it's best to breed a Fold with British, but I think my kitty's parents are both Scottish, one fold and one straight ears.

Glad I found this video. I am looking for a kitten and am debating between the British Shorthair and Scottish straight. However I need a cat that is ok to be left alone while I am at work and possibly over the weekend. Based on your video and comments it sound like the Scottish is too needy for that. What are your thoughts?

I had, until last year, a moggy cat who happened to have the FD gene. She had small ears, with totally folded eartips, and a crimp in the Henry's Pocket area, like young kittens, though her ears weren't looped. She also had double coat and semi-cobby/cobby structure. She lived 19 years. She was also very smart, and had some manerism of scottish folds, aswell aggressive traits of her feral mum. (My cat wasn't feral, she liked to be around people). Her mum was a long haired diluited tortie, I think the father was a Scottish Fold, my aunt (the one that gave me my cat) told me he was a big, black cat. Now i have three regular cats, but in future I will get Scottish fold, they remember me my first cat.

I want to get one of these cats as my first cat. If I am not at home for 8-10 hours every day (because of work), and in rare cases even more than that, what cat do you recommend? Is it better to get a British Shorthair, because they are more independent, and maybe the Scottish Fold cats are too clingy and may be stressed from staying alone so much?
@SirNicolayCattery4 жыл бұрын
Hi Bogdan! If you're going to be away from home 8-10 hours a day and the cat will be alone, I recommend that you get an adolescent cat or an adult cat so that your first cat won't be lonely. Younger kittens tend to be clingy and would feel lonely if they're alone. Getting a 6-month old cat or older might be better. I recommend British Shorthair because they're more independent.

Get two cats, but DO NOT GET A SCOTTISH FOLD. The cartilage mutation means they have joint problems and pain at 5 years old. Trust me, I have one from a highly regarded breeder, couldn't have a better 'pedigree'. The poor boy is suffering. 80% have this degenerative disease and there's no way of knowing. This is why GCCF won't register them as a breed.

I only feed the British short hair only once in the mornings and once at night and she doesn’t eat her food if we aren’t around compared to other cat personality I think it’s plain cute and lucky she is not food oriented so she won’t get fat because we feed her less than half a cup because I know cat will get fat if over feeding and she will get too thin f we under feed her I tried my best not to give her too much to eat.

Hello :) 7kg sack I think is good for 2 months, though I recommend try smaller packs first to check which brand and flavor your kitty would like. Trial and error first few weeks. Same goes also for wet food. Wet food pack for 1 kitty is 1 per day. U can also mix wet and dry sometimes. The key is feeding your kitty in variety.

Please don’t support the breeding of Scottish Folds. All cats with folded ears have Osteochondrodysplasia which will cause them excruciating pain.
