I've got some more that I learned when I was in London: - To feel peckish = To be a bit hungry - To fancy someone = To like someone (it can also be used Tu suggest someone to go out for a drink or sth: Do you fancy a beer? Would you like to grab a beer? (We've got a corresponding sentence in Spanish: Te hace una cerveza? - To be gutted = To be annoyed, disappointed with sth - To be knackered = To be more that tired, exhausted (highly used when you go back home from a long night of partying haha) - To be/look posh = To be/look cool, in a "luxurious" way Please correct me if I'm wrong 😊😁 Cheers Lucy!
@roisine46256 жыл бұрын
they are all good, although i personally would not refer to posh as cool, it's rather if you look well off or fancy
@tombelanovic76865 жыл бұрын
"Fancy" & "posh" are commonly used. Good point.
@krishnacoirs5 жыл бұрын
I know some slang phrases and expressions ; they are as follows : 1. to be knackered = to be really really tired. 2. Rightly so = quite rightly ; correctly . 3 .to be quids in = to (suddenly ) be in good financial condition ; mostly used to say people if they won some money in the competition.. 4. You have got to be kidding me ! = You must be joking ( can be used in funny ,anger, disbelief situations )...etc... And don't think that I have heard these phrases and expressions in Britain , because I didn't. I have recently learnt it from Lucy's other video !!😜

English with Lucy sounds perfect and I really enjoy ur slang videos it is very useful for me indeed thx
@spydestroyer8 жыл бұрын
Blue mics are really good and it sounded good too though the microphone has got a bit of the room sound since it's a condenser . ( I know what I'm talking about since I am a sound engineer ) I think though the best mic for you would be a dynamic mic such as a SM7 to get less room sound and more direct sound from your voice . also tame a bit of the high end ( meaning hi frequencies because it sounds a bit harsh ) .
@TheCreative17988 жыл бұрын
hmn... I think, the new microphone is... I don't know... too loud, previous videos were much quieter and probably there is some echo in background. I'm really keen on that previous mic. PS: up there, in my main comment might be some incorrect forms or mistakes, sorry for that but I'm not native English speaker.

You asked for slang words and those came to mind right away 1.bollocks (as a curse word, probably something an American would not use) 2. dodgy (as something shady and not quite right; close to "iffy" I guess) 3. a fortnight (as a period of two weeks, although I am pretty sure it is more old fashioned "Shakespearian" than slang) PS: We call a pub "Lokal" in German, too.
@andrewsmith748 жыл бұрын
Bollocks also means testicles as well as nonsense. Dodgy, shady and iffy mean the same thing. Fortnight isn't slang - it's in mainstream use.
@hetalraiththa11276 жыл бұрын
well today in India we take the word 'fortnight' in regular use

Iffy is popular here in the States, it might be getting a bit dated though. We use it as you do, but it's mostly used in reference to the weather. "The weather is a bit iffy". When you can't tell what the weather is going to do, for example "is it going to rain or will the sun shine?" (it's always about polar opposite's, never minor differences like rain & showers). We also use it to denote doubt whether someone will or wont attend a social function, "My brother is iffy about coming to Sunday dinner".

Hey Lucy! Thanks for all the tips! Just wanted to let you know, in case you don't know this yet, that in Spain we have the exact same slang word for "skint", which is "pelado" (lit. "peeled", comes from "piel", "pelar", "pelado"). To make it sound even more Spanish (from central Spain at least) you would say "pelao". Thanks again and keep up the good work!
