“The basket” is exclusive to Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. The way the ball park was made, a HR doesn’t actually need to go past the fence, as long as it lands in the basket. A baseball game is 2.5-3.5 hours, so half that time is spent in the dugouts. That allows players to have lots of fun, especially because only 9 out of 26 players play at a time. Plus each team has around 8 coaches sitting in the dugouts with them.

Pretty much summed it all up there. Clubhouse leaders or Captains obviously vary from team to team, maybe by team make up or identity. Some teams can have more than one really. You can have a Jeter who is a Superstar, or some teams may have guys that are future managers that aren't really great players. Teams like Tampa or Arizona who doesn't typically have big money for a Jeter type might just have an older guy to mentor all the young talent.

the NY Yankees for example, don't regularly appoint a team Captain, but it is normally bestowed onto players who exhibit leadership, both on and off the field. To date, the NYY has had 11 Official captains. The last captain was No.2** Derek Jeter (SS), a career Yankee (1995-2014) and held the position of Captain from 2005 until his retirement in 2014. To date, the position of Captain has been left vacant. **The No.2 has been retired from the Yankee's organization (meaning it cannot be used by another player on the team). Having been retired, there is no single digit number (not including 0) available Yankee player.

Baseball antics in the dugout and bullpen are common to kill time. There’s a lot of “down time” between pitches; the game has no game clock, so can last 3-4 hours, or even more in the case of extra innings; sometimes they play 2 games in a day (to make up a rain-out, for example); players alternate offense/defense, so even the starters are sitting half the time; plus the reserves are in the dugout waiting hours to possibly only play a pitch or two, if at all. Not to mention starting pitchers, who only pitch every 5th day or so. And last but certainly not least, the season is 162 games long, plus spring training! The hijinks are to keep from going stir crazy.
@nishaingle13273 жыл бұрын
In baseball, there are different power positions. Firstly, the captain, who is like the leader of the group. Then the Ace, the normal pitcher who often leads the tempo of the games. There's also the leadoff; the first hitter, who sets the tone for the first round of batting, and the cleanup; who is usually third or fourth to hit; they are there for when the bases are heavy or loaded to try to "clean up" the field. If you like anime and want to learn more about baseball; I recommend watching ace of the diamond. It does really well at explaining a number of things.

I was literally laughing so hard my eyes were squeezed shut at the Indians’ Corey Kluber interview! 🤣 - _Some_ teams have Captains, but it is an honorary title. (The rivals, the NY Yankees and the Boston Red Sox are two teams who started using this title in the last few years, giving it to players who, by action and character, are exemplary players and who have exceptional work ethics and keep up team morale.). Otherwise, subordinate to the manager, there are coaches, such as the pitching coach, hitting coach, first and third base coaches, etc.

The guys who made the baseballs into characters are likely in the bullpen. That's an area away from the rest of the team where that's just for the pitchers. Since pitchers only come into a game every once in a while, they have a lot of extra time on their hands. Sometimes they go for days without playing.

The term your looking for is Captain. Football teams can have multiple captains for different units on the team( offense, defense,special teams) baseball teams usually have one captain, it's not really a thing in basket ball, and in hockey each team has one captain and two alternate captains. The captain will have a C on their jersey and the alternates A's. If the captain is injured or unable to perform for some reason one of the alternates will have their A replaced with a C for that game.

Football and Hockey have official captains. In hockey there's 3, the main captain has a C on the front shoulder of their jersey and 2 others have an A for, I think, alternate captain. Football has a captain for offense, defense and special teams (kicking and punting) and they have a C in the front of their jersey with stars underneath. Still not sure what they mean, it's something the NFL recently started doing within the last 10-15 years. Other than going out for the coin toss it's more of a symbolic thing. In baseball and basketball it's pretty much entirely symbolic and there's usually no indication of it on the jersey.
@noahkane264 жыл бұрын
There isn’t truly a “captain” on baseball teams. Hockey and football use captains, but not baseball or basketball. For the most part, the catcher is the leader of a baseball team because from his position, he can see the whole field. If a ball is hit deep into the outfield, he communicates where the outlet/relay has to go to. For example, if a runner is on first and the batter hits a double, that runner might try to go all the way from 1st base to home. As the outfielders chase the ball, the catcher yells “cut 4, cut 4!” Cut means to throw to the “cutoff” and the number corresponds to the bases. A cutoff is when a ball is hit into the outfield, the shortstop or 2nd baseman runs a little ways into the outfield to catch the throw. It is quicker to make two hard throws from the outfield to the infield, then to home plate, than it is to make one long throw

Here's an idea for a baseball video to react to: the last inning of the sixth game of the 1986 World Series between the New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox. This game has one of the most astounding finishes in history. All baseball fans know what happened. Please don't tell Luka! Let him experience it for the first time himself. The background is that the Red Sox led the series three games to two. They played game six in New York. If the Red Sox won, they'd be champions. If the Mets won, the Series would go on to a seventh game. They were tied three runs apiece at the end of the ninth inning, so they went into extra innings. The Mets had a chance to score another run in the ninth inning, but failed to drive it in. The announcers question several times the decision of the Mets' manager not to bunt. The entire game is on KZbin, but it's over three and a half hours. That's too long for a reaction video. Here's a link to the last inning, which is "only" about 30 minutes long: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGHNh5Khg9hlppI There's a commercial break at around 3:25:30 that you'll want to skip over. The action resumes at about 3:26:35. Here's a link to that spot: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGHNh5Khg9hlppI I realize this would be a long video for you, but it would give you a chance to see an actual game being played, instead of a bunch of highlight clips.
