@jacobwedra ...

Even or only? This works no where else. Imagine going to Mexico and speaking English with a Mexican accent. It's hard to imagine that scenario ending with being praised for "speaking Spanish" lol So interesting what can be considered mockery in one culture, can be considered praise in another.

KILIG is giddiness, thrilled, excited. Just few words synonymous to this Filipino word. Keep in mind that it's a Tagalog slang. Back street words are also commonly used and accepted. Philippines is a huge Country and tagalog is not the only language there are variety of languages and dialects, several Islands and Provinces, if you travel to the Philippines, you are more focus on tagalog, Majority of Filipinos speak American English because English is taught from Kindergarten, High School & Colleges and Universities! There's 82 Provinces, there's 7,641 Islands and 170 dialects. So if you meet and speak to an educated Filipino they are more like to speak English. American English is basic without the Slang or whatever you prepare. !! 🇵🇭

I was born in Manila. When my dad was assigned to Baguio, I learned to speak Ilocano Then assigned in Cebu as an army Captain, I was able to speak Visaya. My dad is Bicolano so I also understand the dialect. I learned Arabic and little Hindi while in Bahrain and Dubai as an expat. I studied Spanish too. While in Hongkong and Singapore, they encourage everyone to speak Mandarin, not Cantonese. Learning any language or dialect entails learning and constant conversation with locals. I'm now a Canadian citizen. It's good to be a Polyglot.

@@homey4523 Congratulations Sir, I salute and respect you. learning a new language or dialect is not easy, I learned that some Parts of Bicol Province speaks Bisayan as well, they also speak tagalog. My Mom comes from the Visayas Region, from Negros Oriental, Dumaguete but move to Cebu, I was born in Cebu but raised in the U.S.A. My Dad is Ilocano, but I only know some phrases and words, because my Uncles and Aunts in the U.S.A. runs and own a farm and most of the workers are Ilocanos and you know Filipinos we call older people Uncles or Aunts..so I speak Bisaya, tagalog and I'm am learning Japanese and Chinese, I am not a linguist but want learn more languages. I had Spanish subjects in High School but Spanish is not my interest, I also had one subject in French, but not into French, I wish I can speak more Asian languages since I am Oriental...

Filipinos aren't L1 speakers of English. They are first native speakers of their own language and then Tagalog. Let's be real - They still dont speak English as casually as Tagalog especially among people from different ethnic backgrounds. Tagalog still remains to be the lingua franca of the Filipinos.
