He was given the hardest test the AP Statistics teacher offered and he got full marks on it while the rest of the class struggled with the study guide. In Japan students excel because they don't have lives outside of school. They spend their after school time often doing more studying. Many are so stressed they commit suicide. So yes they are more academically advanced compared to us but at what cost?
@kenmahyu10 ай бұрын
@@askinganime6023 I get your point but it's not entirely true. I was told that extracurricular activities are common among students in Japan, just like in the U.S. They're more academically advanced than us because of societal norms. They are taught more advanced things at a younger age than us. And what do you mean by "at what cost"? Studying and education pays off if you want a stable income.
@askinganime602310 ай бұрын
@kenmahyu "at what cost" means at the cost of being stressed and suicidal. Being academically advanced is not important. Why go to Harvard and cram schools when you can become an electrician or welder and make 100k salary? Trade schools provide more benefits to society than individual academics
@kenmahyu10 ай бұрын

The worst thing about US public school systems is that the quality of the education depends almost entirely on the wealth / tax money of the people in the area. This means that kids in wealthier towns (that have wealthier parents) will have access to better public (free) schools than kids in less wealthy towns, purely because they receive more funding. It's also a self-fulfilling cycle, since real estate agencies and landlords in towns with better schools can put more expensive prices on housing due to the appeal of sending your kids to a good school.
@erickykyk11 ай бұрын
definitely. my town has excellent education and my school is good too, i'm not complaining, but some of the towns over can afford ipads for all their kids, while it's probably not the same story up in hartford or other unfortunately poorer areas where i live in CT

It really depends on the student . There’s many students who want to challenge themselves to try to get into a highly competitive university. If one wants to take more challenging classes there’s options to take advanced placement classes that are more in line to university courses and they’re hard. Otherwise you take the basic curriculum to graduate. That’s one big thing about the US schools - freedom to choose, as not everyone chooses to go to college after high school. Just like we don’t need to wear uniforms to school for the most part . One thing: Having pep rallies and homecoming, you cannot experience that anywhere else except American high school and those were always fun!
@LucyJones-sb3mv11 ай бұрын
You can choose the option of 'college' after lower school in the UK too. However, you can also choose to specialise early into a course for a specific job, an apprenticeship where you are employed with a company and learn a trade at age 16, or you can do extra studies for specific subjects and go to university or a higher level apprenticeship when you are 18 for degree level education for a specific topic

Public schools all vary depending on funding, the state, the county within the state, the district, and what city within that state you're in. In the high school I went to, we didnt have two story buildings everything was just separate buildings, we had two separate buildings that were for gym class, Horticulture/Agriculture had their own building and greenhouse for plants and animals, classes pertaining to careers had their own building(i.e. Vocational building), along with band and choir having their own building. We didnt have art class, only had one spanish teacher who just kinda decided to dip out during the latter half of the year to go on a cruise which caused majority of our grades to fail because we were being taught in a hands on approach prior to that. Also there are likee 4-5 different school districts in just the county I live in within my state alone, for quite a while my school was super lax with rules up until The Incidents that kept landing us on local news because our principal was older than basically everyone on the Board of Education along with being within the school system longer than any of them were too, outside of the (boarding class teacher) And Lockdowns, lockdowns drills are wild to me still cause I remember when they first were implemented, I was in middle school. Even as an american seeing that its been normalized is crazy especially when I have been through an actual code red lockdown three times during high school and during one of them the perpetrator was someone who'd threatened to k!ll me, the other hs students, the little elementary schoolers, and the driver on the bus earlier that day all because I accidentally sat in a different seat that morning.
@Galidorquest Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you were very privileged. Most schools aren't like that.
@DaemosG Жыл бұрын
@Galidorquest we definitely weren't privileged, when it came to laxness on phone use and being able to leave school to get food from our local gas station, dollar general, or subway, sure but definitely not priviledged. Some of the buildings were made of asbestos, the food and milk was often moldy, and they have actively hidden police brutality, what truly caused the code red situation and three instances of death, one of which was a suicide that happened on campus. Then 2 years of being in high school half of the school got torn down and as all of it was one floor buildings that spanned across the land it made getting to class harder, especially on days when there was rain/a storm frequently causing people to slip into a shit ton of mud or just slip all over the concrete and gravel or nearly get struck by lightning. The multiple city schools here are definitely more priviledged, they actually get funding albeit the strict rules some have they also get actual good cafeteria food that doesn't send kids to the hospital with food poisoning on a daily basis. Plus the old principal ended up handing the principal position to his son who was incredibly strict when he came in during my last year there. They ended up finishing construction and implementing loads of classes and actual helpful stuff when Class of 2020(my graduation class) left. Recently, they let someone who nearly shot up the school back into school so I really wouldn't say it's a priviledge, like theybstraight up made all those kids continue class like normal even though everyone knew someone on campus had a gun on them and who it was specifically. Also we weren't allowed field trips or field days because some people nearly 15 years ago fucked that up for everyone. We all WISHED we could've gone to a city school instead despite how snobby they acted towards us for being rural country kids. They had real priviledge since they only had to go to school 5-6 hours compared to mine who even during a literal hurricane, we had to be in school, ready to be there by 7:30 by car, on a bus by 6 with school ending at 3. They also had vending machines and lockers, which my school barely had any lockers so.... :/
@tye82923 күн бұрын
Exactly. Overall, Americans are one of the most educated nationalities in the world, with higher educational attainment levels than virtually every European country, including the UK. It very arguably has _the_ best higher learning institutions in the world too. But of course it varies so much. You go to a rural Mississippi school, you may find the education is very dumbed-down (no offense, Mississippi). You go to suburban school in Massachusetts, it is one of the best-educated places on the planet. U.S. states are more analogous to entire European countries in many respects than is the entire United States, and this is something Europeans from unitary countries often fundamentally do not understand about the U.S. Truly it is a _union_ of _states_ doing much of this stuff independently... As for his example assignment, where you are just adding 3 again and again... I am pretty skeptical... I think it is more likely that that was just an initial example, to teach the students what the teacher meant, before they go into more complex sequences from there. Because I was learning calculus and much more complicated math in public school at that age, so I'm just not buying it. It's European confirmation bias probably. They go in thinking "these kids are so dumb" and just look for examples to fit that bias. Meanwhile these kids graduate and go on to build computers and do heart surgery.

There's definitely a different energy in American schools, or at least this one. Freedom of expression at my school in the UK kinda felt less, the teachers' word was law. The Deputy Headteacher would go into rages and scream in our faces, until kids cried and then some. Misbehave bad enough and they'd put you in the isolation room for a day or more, people would get detention for having something slightly wrong with their uniform or because their parents dropped them off late. british schools are so strict compared to the schools in the us. i go to school in massachusetts and it’s a really well educated school but it’s really lenient. we can wear whatever we want, we’re allowed to have our phones out almost all the time etc. rules really vary from school to school but all the ones i’ve gone to really cut us some slack
@Anna-tw3dd Жыл бұрын
British secondary schools are strict. After year 11 which is sophomore year in the USA we have sixth form/college in the UK which is the final two years of education in the UK before university. Depending on where you go it’s less strict. For example if you stay with a mainstream school for sixth form it’s usually still very strict however if you go to an independent btec college or a sixth form college it’s more lenient on attendance and dress code
@QU4RT3RSS8 ай бұрын
uniforms are common for brits, yep. normally the policy dies down before university as it does get strict at some points in mainstreams so university is kind of like newly found freedom to dress how you want for most people

Went to public High School in the middle of New Hampshire, US from 2018-2022. Pretty much entirely white, like 75% conservative. You're so right about the girlfriend thing. Hard to get play in my school because everyone met their significant other in 8th grade. Graduated last year, and as far as I'm concerned, they're all still together. Had a German friend who said there weren't popular kids in her school which shocked me. Here, boys lacrosse, basketball, and soccer (football isn't as big of a thing in New England as it is in other parts of the country) and girl's lacrosse, field hockey, and basketball rule the roost. Usually the girl whose dad owns the most successful business, the boy who can jump the highest date, and everyone else wants to be them. There is no "clique" of creative people, except for a ragtag theater group who don't possess any creativity but are loud and have nowhere else to go. Most people just go home after school and play video games. If you get good grades, you go into the medical field, and if you don't, you collect THC carts and find your way into landscaping, flipping burgers, or maybe even the military, which had a pull-up bar and a recruiter in our lunch room. Also, food is god awful. I wish it was less stereotypical.

I don’t think people from the UK realize how different each school is. Each school is drastically different from town to town, not even counting state to state. In my same city, one school is on a “college schedule” (which they are pretty behind in most subjects), then you have the poorer school (which was literally just in a lockdown this week), then you have the wealthier school (which is, in my opinion, just as smart as schools in the UK). And that’s just in the same city. Each state teaches a different curriculum, and change drastically in their teachings. My state is really good with education, and if I moved to New Mexico (which is the worst ranked educationally) I would be ahead of their education by atleast a year. The math in this video I learned while I was probably in 6th grade, I too was shocked that High Schoolers were learning that. And it was probably just review for a unit they were just starting. I am also not in any advanced math, I am only a sophomore (10th grader) in high school, and I am learning way more advanced stuff than that. Also, I very much disagree with the intro. Americans are not stupid, you just have a biased view of us through social media and inaccurate movies (I blame you High School Musical 😡). I think people should stop with the xenophobia and let Americans and other cultures/countries live their lives without discrimination. I don’t get why the UK hates the USA so much.

Ok compared to my experiences in an American Highschool (Im currently in Senior year) - The math was stuff I did in 6th grade.... so I dunno whats going on in that school. - Bathroom pass BS isn't a thing - Yeah school food is hit and miss, but I always bring my own lunch so... - On level classes are easy as fuck, they are (for the most part) designed to make sure people pass as long as they just... do the work, however most schools ofc offer AP classes or Advanced level classes; which Is what I have taken in most subjects; so I cant fully speak on the work of on-level courses.
