My son has lived in Australia for a long time and, because of that, we have a house over there (with the obligatory boat and car). We go for a month each year during our winter and their summer. However, for 2013, we went over in their winter to see the Lions. A couple of points: - our son got us the tickets which were easy to come by for any Australian resident. So, we were sat in the home fans section. A pity on some ways but the Aussies around us were great; we exchanged changing room banter as you might imagine but it was good hearted. - in the days before the final Sydney test, we travelled into the city and all the touristy areas was just a sea of red jerseys. Welsh, Scottish, Irish, English - all together to support one team Can you imagine any of that happening so peacefully in soccer? In many ways, when I played, we were thugs (a bit strong but no quarter asked for or given) on the pitch; but civilised straight after the whistle ended the match. Still got a couple of those souvenir yellow Aussie colonial hats - they were given out by the Aussies to try and bring some Aussie gold into the crowd; otherwise, it was just red everywhere.

Brilliant player; could play either side. My God England could do with his reincarnation. Failing that, Andrew Sheridan...

Was there that day. One of the best days ever. Drinking next to the Sydney Opera House with about 10k other lions fans, the tram ride to the stadium with deafening noise, and then being at the end where the tries came in the second half… plus the celebration afterwards. Just sensational.

That's called karma you limey. The Boks deserved 97. Outscored the Lions by 9 tries to 3 in that series.

I admit. Your Welsh boys were class that year. Sexton with you boys was magical.

I'm absolutely sure that the Welsh players saw themselves as part of a Lions team, no more no less. Pretty sure too that they would see your comment as the toss it is.

The reaction from his teammates, after scoring his try, was fantastic. A kiss from Jamie Roberts was the icing. Just reading Alex's bio on wiki, and was horrified to read that back in 2009 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, which has spread to his lymph nodes !! Has anyone please have any updates his condition?

He's fine and recovered and living in the USA happily married, where he used to assistant coach the LA Giltinis until they went bust. He's currently trying to scout young Americans to try and convert them to rugby to prepare for the 2031 World cup

The Poms always come across Ugly when they win. Utterly obnoxious. Win with grace and be gracious in defeat. Not an obvious Lions trait. Utter Oiks at times.
