What a treasure this interview is. Thank you for posting!

I love that John Waters is so refreshingly willing to engage Pop Culture while also groaning at its Golden Calves and taking delight in "impenetrable art movies." What a darling gem, and a great asset/agonist for civilization!

So happy to finally know that two of my biggest cinematic heroes actually met each other. I've always wondered about that.

John Waters might be the only person I don't get annoyed with for stating how he hates David Lean (but I understand it is still his opinion.)
@harrysecombegroupie5 жыл бұрын
I actually gasped and bristled when he said that as if it were a personal offence! I'm totally fine with drag queens eating excrement and advocating murder, but hating on David Lean has me clutching my pearls!
@desperatemohammedantheworl58335 жыл бұрын
I'm not a Lean fan. Oliver Twist is great. The Bridge on the River Kwai and Lawrence of Arabia are fantastic war films. But for example Dr.Zhizago, Summertime or Brief Encounter (most over rated film of all time?) leave me cold and especially in the last case bored.

I think how he was funny about it made it that more enjoyable
@ThreadBomb3 жыл бұрын
@@desperatemohammedantheworl5833 I agree that Lean made some poor films, but somehow I think Waters may be exaggerating. He would probably like the griminess of Oliver Twist, and I don't see how he could totally hate Lawrence of Arabia, what with its beautiful visuals, memorable music, and flamboyant lead actor.

Aids was a horrible disease, and the deaths still haunt me to this day. It was like the Vietnam war death count for the Gay community. On the news so many people would be announced to be dead or to have aids. It was so scary cuz we didn't know the how and why of the disease.

To be fair, the interviewer was mediocre. He didn't engage with Waters much, mostly asked his written questions glumly. When Waters rightly defended BLUE on celluloid film and pointed out that the scratched film print could be was good if not more interesting than what they showed, the interviewer seemed peeved that Waters didn't confirm his prejudice for the digital version.

John Waters was great at bringing straight and gay people together through film imo. I think Blue is a great film, and should be seen in a cinema to keep your attention. For the record I'm straight but who cares.
