The torch tip is awesome! i love my torch for torching meringue or even warming up butter while its mixing but ive never thought of torching my metal scraper!

I don't have a torch yet but when I'm making SMBC and it's cold I grab my hair dryer, put the setting on low/warm then hit the bottom edge of the mixing bowl. Works like a charm every time, lol

I have the strips, leveler, and mini blow torch. I love them all! You can make a set of quick strips with aluminum foil encased wet paper towel strips, if you’re needing them quickly, or don’t have the extra cash to buy them. Cooking With Pam offers that tutorial.

Thank you so much for testing these! This was a really useful video. I've known of the scraper paddle, but always wondered if it was as useful as it looks. Now I may need to add it to my caking wish list. I would love to see more "cake gadget" testing, if you come across any more that you are curious whether they work or not and you wouldn't mind testing for us.

I love my cake leveler. It's made my baking life easier for me but I do have one caution. Make sure you buy one that's sturdy. I bought the Wilton's one from Walmart which did the opposite of its purpose. It tore my cake up. I picked up another one at Michael's, kept my receipt (just in case), used it then threw that receipt away, lol. That little zester would be perfect for me. I have 2. A med and large. No matter how careful I am when zesting ill hit the pith. A few times I've hit my nails and skin 😬 I wish they sold those in stores. I'm not one who does any online ordering... 😒

I always use my beater blade with the spatula. I regularly use the cake leveler and bake even strips. I need to get the blow torch and a metal scraper. That technique looks so easy!

I've been using the paddle on my Kitchenaid mixer for years. Love it! I don't even use the one that came with it anymore. I have the torch, but usually use it for meringue or creme brulee. Glad to know it's got other uses too! Such a helpful video. Thank you for testing all of these.

Emily, this was such a useful video! I think I'd definitely try the zester, paddle and the mini donut mold!! I have tried strips, but it was a diy video that suggested using an old towel cut into strips, dampened and with the ends pinned together. But overall I totally agree with your opinions!! Thanks 🙏🏽😊❤️🇨🇦

I use a torch regularly on my metal scraper, love the baking strips, and my scraping mixer attachment. I can't find patience for the wire leveler, but I do need to purchase a spirit level. I don't use zest enough, and never use donuts, to justify purchasing, although I love the ideas of both. I hate the silicon baking pans, they deform while baking. Egg separators seem a waste of space and time, and the 90° icing smoother is absolutely horrid. Basically, I agree with this fabulous tool review video. Thanks for the content!

I have everything except the torch and the zester. The leveler is a waste of money once the wire is dull. It will drag through the entire cake and create a mess. I bought a wonderful leveler from Amazon that uses adjustable blades similar to a hacksaw and you can actually level a cake up to 3 separate levels at once ; even when frozen!!! Love it!
@BritishGirlBakes Жыл бұрын
Sounds amazing! I saw that you can buy replacement wires for the Wilton leveler on Amazon but I don't think I'll be using mine enough to get to the point of needing them

The torch! When I learned the hot water trick on my scraper and spatulas it was a game changer. However, my sink takes a second to get as hot as it needs to be so it becomes tedious to stop repeatedly and run the water until its hot enough, plus it's such a waste of water. I started keeping a hot bowl of water in the microwave but it tends to get dirty and again, tedious to stop and go open the microwave. Not a lazy thing as much as it is irritation with getting in a good groove and then having to stop. I thought of using a lighter but just assumed a direct flame would be too hot, and also the fear of causing any black soot or whatever to get on the scraper and worse, transferring it to my cake. But I can see how a torch versus a typical lighter would correct that. I aslo might give those bake even straps a try after seeing how much higher and more level the cake came out. However, speak for yourself about serated knives being second nature. Ive been using wire levelers exclusively since I started baking. With the knife, my cakes always come out uneven or I unintentionally take a huge chunk off. Im a f*****g pro when it comes to mincing and chopping and slicing, but couldn't use it for leveling cake if my life depended on it.
@BritishGirlBakes Жыл бұрын
I hope the torch is a game changer for you! I have the same problem with the tap in the sink taking forever to get hot so before discovering the torch I used to boil a kettle and pour the hot water into a cake pan to then dip the cake comb into repeatedly while I was smoothing the frosting.

Careful not to squeeze out the water on the strips! You're only supposed to gently remove sloppy dripping excess. Like running the strip between two outstretched fingers, rather than squeezing. Leave most of the water in them, and cold water at that. I set them to soak before preparing my pans to ensure they are thoroughly saturated. The baking strips aren't really needed for oil based cakes, but butter cakes are WORLDS better with the baking strips.

I love baking strips, but I have my homemade one, just damp old kitchen towels, and as well, it does work for all types of cake, for example, for a vegan version, my cake just crumbled because of the steam and softness it creates. Also I don't use them I I want to make a naked cake, why? Because a bit of brown edges gives me a better support and structure.

@alisonscurr4395 Жыл бұрын
If that is not a profroster and a cheap copy it wont work. Also I noticed it wasn't flat on the cake board. I could see a gap at the bottom and that is why it wasn't working. So if it was a profroster then it is user error. I wouldn't be without mine. l like using the cake wire leveller as it gives a nice flat surface and so each layer is getting the same amount of filling. I bake and level my cakes the day before filling and decorating so it's not a problem. Other tools I have on this list is the mixer paddle with tool. It came with my Kitchen Aid. Spirit level, blow torch and metal scraper. I also have cake strips of varying hight and lengths.
