@@ٴٴٴٴ_0 In some ways it was better and in some ways it wasn’t that great especially for working women. I think it was the Golden Age of retail when you had real customer service. Although, we were paid less than men, had to put up with grabby men who thought it was their right to handsy and I was an average looking married 20 year-old. Back in the day, it wasn’t considered sexual harassment, it was just guys being playful and female employees were fair game. I had to push-off several supervisors. I made it clear that I was a very happily married person and not that kind of woman. By the way, I always dressed professionally and conservatively, following the company’s strict dress code so there was no provocative apparel or mixed messages sent by me. It was case of some nasty men flexing their power over individuals who couldn’t afford to make waves. Much like a Donald Trump philosophy, “grab them by the p----“ because you can and they are powerless”. Beside it was the age of the Good Old Boys Club where they covered for each other. All in all, I’ll take now over then!

A professional rep of this one company would occasionally come in and women would have their perfect shade broken down & put on a file card. When they needed more, they'd come in, we'd pull their card and mix up their formula. The colors weren't that vivid, more like different shades/tones of beige. The blending part took awhile, 10-15 mins. But it was all loose powder, we didn't press it.

@@BabsChannel I believe KewpieGirl means the customized process. Yes, I'm aware custom blended foundations, lipsticks, etc are still available today, but not for the everyday consumer and its not done in front of you like this. You're not able to walk into a Sephora or other cosmetic store, chat with a beautician, and walk out same day with a custom blended compact of foundation made just for you. I wish i could afford this though, i can never find the appropriate shade for my skin tone :/

A brand called Prescriptives used to do this with lipstick and powder. I wish more companies started this trend again.

They still do. There are makeup stores all over cities like NYC, LA, London, Paris, Tokyo, etc that mix and match makeup from scratch. Safiya Nygaard did videos on some of the shops.

My mother worked for Charles of the Ritz and Christian Dior in Swan and Edgar and custom mixed face powders; Barbra Streisand was a one time customer when her Elliot Gould was performing in On the Town.

I love the whole set design and the colours . It would nice to know how clips like these can be made.

That should exist nowadays too. Every woman has a different shade. Nowadays the cosmetic industry dictates the shades we should have and there is less acceptance for individuality in skin shades. We often wear make-up that's not our shade. Someone should change that. I'm in love with the individual powder ❤️

I wish you could still do this. Maybe have one long consultation to figure out your exact color and undertone and then call in next time you need a refill. It's better than searching relentlessly for your shade on an often messy store shelf with swatches on your arm. Plus, I think it just adds something to the shopping experience that we really don't have anymore.
