For a long time I thought I wanted to study fashion design and then before going to uni I realized I loved fashion but I wasn't seeing myself being an actual fashion designer. This series is so great because it makes you understand that there's a lot more in the fashion world and there's a place for everyone. I'm studying graphic design now but I really want to get in the fashion industry in the future!

One of my favourite videos out of this series! Paul Smith and Judd Crane really resonated with me in terms of finding out hidden career options within Fashion and it was so interesting to see how WGSN works and how they forecast - love their coverage of window displays from around the world.

I'm honestly a little disappointed in this episode, there is so much more to fashion buying than sitting at a fashion show and picking out clothes. Buyers must know their clientele's tastes and preferences, and not to mention have extensive knowledge of merchandising such as Open To Buy systems, six month planning, inventory maintenance, and vendor relations. I wish a little more of that was covered in this segment instead of just sweeping over the basic idea of fashion buying.

I am definitely glad they started this series, I think it helps people realize how much hard work goes in to not only the fashion industry, but the retail industry as well. Hopefully there will be another season that covers more of the retailing aspect of fashion.

its never to late. Many people are self trained in buying or fashion. If you want to be a designer you need to start at the bottom,work hard and have quality work. Same thing as buyer, if you have a business degree many buyers do. Hope that incorages you.

+watermelonprincess I would say just go out there and get experience. You dont have to have a degree in fashion to work in it. I've had a lot of experience in media and write for a fashion magazine, and I'm doing a Psych degree. I just spend my spare time doing media related things
@ModupeOloruntoba9 жыл бұрын
+watermelonprincess fashion still needs you! so many of us studied it and didn't really get to learn much else while we did. the industry is 360 but most of us will graduate with only a 90 degree perspective. whatever you studied, you can work in fashion.

I hate that everyone is telling you to just be confident, it is more than just being confident. When you are a person of color, Particularly, Black, Latin, Middle Eastern etc. we are always the last or after thought especially in the fashion industry. We have so many skills and great ideas that we can bring to the table but are not able to have the same opportunities as others and that is the problem! It is now 2020 and I myself feel the same way and I've studied fashion in my undergrad and currently an art student. I just hope that the industry continues to progress in all areas. Let's just keep the faith that it will @Jimmy I feel your pain. Hope you are well!

+angela lissette Interning is vital whatever degree you choose! Try interning as an admin assistant or buyers clerk and make some connections, follow them on social media and keep in touch on linkedin you never know what might come of it! On my course it was compulsory to complete an unpaid work placement each year so we'd have relevant experience and job contacts by the time we graduated, and a lot of people I know have been took on as juniors and buyers assistants at the companies they've interned for since leaving!
