“I was in the egg for three days,” says Lady Gaga, as she recounts her Life in Looks for British Vogue. She’s talking, of course, about the unforgettable Hussein Chalayan “vessel” she arrived at the 2011 Grammys in, held aloft on a litter by six Latex-clad male attendants (the fetishistic fabric required to make their outfits was sourced from a bus company at the last minute, she reveals). That’s just one of many insights contained in the video that accompanies the House of Gucci star’s December 2021 cover - Gaga also explains that the Schiaparelli look she wore to sing at President Joe Biden’s inauguration was bulletproof. Watch the video in full for more revelations from Lady Gaga’s unique fashion journey.

We can not know what will be tomorrow .. Beyoncé is certainly not the latest. If you're referring to the combination of song and style together, however, I agree. But with Madonna it was the same thing, for years she dominated the music scene with her intuition and made her transformations iconic for generations...despite not having significant singing skills, she built a character...loved/hated.. .by millions of fans. Too bad that after 40 years of career, she ended up in the vortex of eternal youth, to keep up with today's 20-year-olds... It's hard to leave the scepter, especially when one has reigned for a long time... but it's inevitable, musically it's still on the piece but he can't expect to be a teenager again at 63 years old.

“I wasn’t hiding, I was screaming.” This line breaks me in a way. Her little monsters (and others, to be fair) see her thoughtful artistry for what it is. So much thought and feeling goes into everything she does and it baffles me that anyone can call it “reductive” or say she lacks authenticity. I think part of the reason she has such fierce fans is that many of us understand the feeling of screaming out without being heard.

her talking about the outfits during ARTPOP era was heartbreaking, little monsters know how tough it was for her during that era, and that's why ARTPOP will always be my number one fav album of hers because it represents vulnerability and speaks a lot of emotions for me imo. Addtionally, I believe it was way ahead of its time, that's probably why it wasn't as recognized as born this way, at that time.

@@anissyaneena8145 everything happened in that era It all started with applause, that debuted on the same week as Roar of Katy Perry, so at that time there was going a lot of competition between them After Born This Way, she was unbeatable, she was in the edge of her glory, so, a song that didn't did as good as her oldest singles, would be considered a big flop. And yeah, that happened Meanwhile, she left her manager due to creative disagreement on music videos etc. So the promotion for artpop almost didn't existed Do What U Want was also a problem because she initially had feated with R. Kelly, at the time, he was accused by sexual assault, and the director of the music video that wasn't published was also accused by sexual assault Anyway, almost everyone was against her at that era. She was over, flopped etc

Look. I love Artpop. I do. But it was just simply not as good of an album, and certainly not as impactful of an album message-wise, as Born This Way. Just a fact. I was in middle school when she debuted and she was the first woman I saw in pop music that actually revolutionized fashion. Every time a red carpet was coming, you'd think "What is Gaga gonna wear?" Back then, I didn't quite understand everything that her outfits were supposed to represent and I can recall people saying she was just doing it for "shock value", but you can see that see has a genuine love and respect for every piece she's ever worn, and for all those who created them.

After this woman has only opened herself up more and more and includes and fights for so many people, how can you say that she is superficial and vain? Just because you don’t understand what she’s doing in this world doesn’t warrant you any right or platform to trash her and call her self obsessed.

@Bored out of my floorboard Meat dress was created by taking the meat from the local butcher, which is not suitable for eating and will be thrown away. So no extra animal was cut for the dress. It was kept in special solutions to eliminate the smell of the meat until the time to wear it in the ceremony. Gaga explained following the awards ceremony that the dress was a statement about one's need to fight for what one believes in, and highlighted her distaste for the US military's don't-ask-don't-tell policy. Her aim was to speak out against this senseless policy, and she succeeded. With the effect of meat dress, the policy came to the fore and a few years later this policy was repealed. If you search, you can see that the meat dress has more meaning and is an action for the benefit of thousands of people.

i actually disagree that she's *that* self aware, but i guess a point of a lot of art is to spark conversation haha. she has a lot of meaning but i think she's still an uber rich person whose life is a playground (even if she was poor at one point), personally i am very drawn to true 'punk' art - like that of poor teenagers who actually made the punk movement with cheap things like thrifted, torn clothes, patches, safety pins, like fashion with culture behind it. she makes art but i do think she takes her work a little too seriously and thinks it is life changing for sooo many others; when it has nothing biting at the heels behind it and she is so far removed from others. of course art doesn't need this, she still makes great art, but i find there to be a massive difference in how i perceive and feel about the art vs how the artist as a person was and their situation and background when making it. like those videos of her 'working' at starbucks? her designs are visually interesting but many of them lack substance or it's an unrelatable background. and don't get me wrong, she's very cool and impressive and successful- obviously- shes fascinating and creative and many good things, it just doesnt all really attract me personally. her art is very valid and great, just not for everyone, and it's not without criticism.

@@downrighthorizontal9931 she is in fact extremely self aware, gaga actually frequented true punk places in the real punk scene of NY, she even managed to perform at the CBGB just before they closed the venue, she has totally the punk attitude, she always had it and still has, i think you're judgemental because she makes pop music and is part of the mainstream scene and modern pop culture, but she really has the blood, name a more punk thing than attending an award ceremony, where everyone play dress up and indulge in their privilege and vanities, all covered in blood red raw meat and fake diamonds to protest against an homophobic law and to comment on how women are seen as inanimate dress up meat to consume and please the viewer, she totally disrupted the status quo in multiple occasions during all her career in pop music, her work is full of substance, for example the video of paparazzi an the song itself make an statement about fame and celebrities and how it's a cycle of social death, very thought provoking and interesting, and nothing short of genius honestly....

It made me remember when Elizabeth Olsen was talking about the movie "I Saw the Light" that she wished people appreciated it more because it was special to her. But that's art - it's subjective and sometimes a lot of people won't get it. I mean, Van Gogh did not get famous until decades later. He died penniless and deemed as lunatic.

Absolutely brilliant. I was never too interested in fashion myself, but Lady Gaga is an artist that transcends personal bias. The beauty, the wit, the dedication. I'm at a loss for words. As always, Lady Gaga has me in awe. Fantastic interview, it's a privilege to see behind the curtain of her artistry, even just a little

i love how she wears high fashion, avante garde looks, literally wearing art, but when she explains her looks, she doesn't sound pretentious. she explains it in a way that you can understand very easily which to me is so cool about her.

I loved watching this interview and really understanding her intentions behind each look. "If you're willing to die for your country, why does it matter how you identify?" I love this woman. She is so educated and outspoken. Lady Gaga is truly someone who deserves fame not just because of her talent. I also really love how everyone thought she was crazy or just craved attention in the early stages of her career, but now understand that art is the way she expresses herslef.
