My theory is that this original version is about how the Britney everyone knew was "gone" /dead and about how basically she's starting a new phase of her career where she's more "free" to do things her own way. @@soulwast I see what Karyn G is saying, because I remember Circus being touted as her "real" comeback, and Blackout kinda being swept under the rug i.e. after her VMA performance and her paparazzi/tabloid/media storm. "Radar" was rereleased on Circus funnily enough. The time in between Blackout and Circus is the instatement of the conservatorship (or am I remembering incorrectly?). I think that she was silenced, especially from potentially alienating the million-dollar industry her image had provided for her and those around her. Rebelliousness has been a part of that image, and I wonder if The Original Doll was a touch too whistleblowy or challenging of America for the people approving her music (or at least, that's what I've come to understand), and that the change to "she's been cloned" may have been a tongue-in-cheek comeback-- that is, if she wrote the edits, or even had final say. At least I'd like to think she did as that is my impression up to that point in her career, before con.
